DIP, I honestly don't know where to start. I will never get you to agree that the federal government is not the enemy. I will never get you to agree that universal healthcare is possible, both logistically and philosophically. That is your prerogative and I can respect someone even if I don't agree with them (see rgc7). That being said, I will point out that your reference to Obama adding more debt than all other presidents combined is inaccurate.
http://www.politifact.com/new-jerse...has-added-more-national-debt-previous-43-pre/

In my lifetime, our problem with the federal deficit and national debt really explored under Reagan. It was further exasperated by W financing two wars "off the books." He could have, and should have, just told the American people sorting like "This is something that we need to do and this is how we are going to finance it. We are going to raise taxes for the duration of the war to pay for these expenditures."

The debt did grow substantially under Obama at least in part due to the largest recession since the Great Depression. I'm not making excuses for Obama as I disagree with much of what he did. If, however, you are going to malign any president, whether Reagan, Clinton, W, Obama or Trump, let's at least get the facts right.

Duck ,
Where did you find that reference ?
The guy who put together that argument should go back and take a cause in writing English
In a clear understandable form ! In short, he is a BS artist of the first degree or has a very disorderly mind,
Or perhaps tilted a few too many at the local pub before putting pen to paper !
If a teacher walked into a classroom with a lesson plan like this article, the students would all
Be sleeping after the first few minutes of class.
In short, if a person can not express his ideas clearly, I’m just not wasting my time with him !
That reference was not even worth the paper it was printed on !

This is fun!

You can pull up your information I can pull up mine it's probably somewhere in the middle

I'm not blaming all the debt on a President Obama
President Bush was a big spending liberal as well
President Trump acts more like a Republican(conservative) president than President Bush.

Don't you find it funny that the two biggest Spenders in American history for the last two one don't you find it funny that the two biggest Spenders in American history for the last two one liberal Republican one Democrat Republican one Democrat
This is why president Trump was elected.

I understand I'm not going to be able to talk you out of increasing our nation's debt with more government spending

I understand you feel the only way Healthcare is going to be run properly is by the government

Your facts are your facts my facts are mine.

Sorry if I rub you disrespectfully

Accountability is a must for each individual to take care of themselves. To this day at the age of 56 I lift 4 to 5 times a week even out of town (thank God for Anytime Fitness) mostly because I have a very physical job and working a physical job is not working out I run not as much as I used to probably 2 to 3 times a week.

Good for you Poet. I'm glad you've had good health.

I was speaking in general terms brother.
I've been blessed that's for sure.
I have annual physicals to maintain a medical card for my CDL that helps out to keep a check on the unknowns.
I hope things are looking up for you.

I do not see pre-existing conditions being left off the bill how to pay for them is going to take some navigating though.

Pre-existing conditions as stated in the post by Telx1 said it correctly. "Pre-existing conditions will be the lynice test" , and as I've posted with long-term job opportunities becoming Slimmer and slimmer pre-existing conditions due to age and other need to be figured out but I don't see it going anywhere.

Existing conditions are a cost for the insurance companies but at the same time the exciting insurance companies will need to brace themselves, while the federal government needs to allow for cross state line options.

Ever since I started working in the private Market 12(+) years I have not went to see the doctor one time. That's 12 plus years of paying premiums and never using them.
It's a shame it cannot carryover like unused data on your cell phon for the month.
I like the idea of a health savings account for younger healthy people

I thought you said you did 3 tours in Vietnam as a Marine? You liar ! I gave you all the respect for being a Vietnam veteran. That is about shameful as it gets. No one born in 1961 served in the Vietnam war. You are pathetic.

BTW, if you want the refugees from terrorist hot spots why don't you offer to take them in to your home?

What?

I never stated I was a Vietnam veteran
I said my brother served three tours in Vietnam and was killed in 68 during his third tour

I've stated my other brother serve two tours in Vietnam

I stated my father went to Vietnam as an advisor under John F Kennedy

Try paying attention a little more

Now I did say I went to Beirut Lebanon my first combat tour

I might have posted it a couple times but I did go to Grenada not really a combat tour more of a cleanup

I have stated I was part of the spearhead during Desert Storm

And I stated that my last tour a combat was in Afghanistan ( FOB)) Camp Rhino

I know it's not Vietnam but I hope I still have your respect

Its all good Poet. I wasn't taking any offense. You're right that people need to account for their own health. If they don't, eventually their body will. As for me, things are always looking up because I don't spend much time looking down.

Paying for healthcare always takes navigating. For a lot of reasons, the present healthcare system is structured in a way that significantly limits the effectiveness of the "invisible hand" of the marketplace to keep healthcare costs in check. Medical billing is complex, and can be very confusing for most people - especially when hospitals, multiple doctors, and insurance companies are involved. That's a lot of self-interested parties, and a lot of agreements that don't include the patient. I've represented clients in billing disputes where the client - and I - can't even get a reasonable explanation of various bills from anybody involved. Try to go out and shop around in advance for the best price on a planned surgery sometime.

Truth is, nobody has a good solution for the underlying problem of controlling the cost of healthcare. We can argue about how we divvy up the bill. But in the end, we're all paying too much, one way or another, to band-aid a problem that needs a cure.

Irish John,
I hope that your health problems keep improving ! That is the problem that I have with all health care bills. Too many people involved and the difficulty reading the bills and payment notices.
In the case about my parents, I think that it was just unfortunate that the person the bill went to was
Either not very competent or just made a mistake, and then the Bureaucracy problem set in , and it was like dealing with a stone wall.
As I stated to Dip , I just hope that the Republicans can clean up the mess and come up with
A great plan ?

I'm afraid of great plan is not going to happen a sustaining plan is more practical.
But the Republicans unlike the Democrats have never really been Unified because they are more interested in their individual constituents.
This is not a bad thing but the moderates will never agree with the freedom caucus who have 100% of my support and the freedom caucus will not agree with the moderates

There has to be some common ground

I may not agree with your politics, but I've never viewed you as much of a personal attack guy. Plus, hindsight is always 20/20, but the truth is I ignored some symptoms and routine health issues for a long time, and that led to the serious problems. So I actually do bear some blame my situation. Hard lessons tend to stick. One positive about the ongoing focus on healthcare, and to an extent even rising premiums, is that its got more of us paying attention to our health. We need to get people healthy and productive.

I don't think a bill should be forced through to meet an arbitrary deadline, otherwise we'll just be trading one unpopular and flawed program for another. It won't carry any more public legitimacy than Obamacare. We'll just have different people bitching and whining.

One critical aspect of our healthcare system that neither Party ever addresses is the demand and supply dynamics at play in a market economy. The current medical education system is not producing enough doctors, and especially internists and family practioners to meet needs, etc... I've known three young men/women who were outstanding students throughout college, who were unable to get into med school. One did after a family friend Dr helped, and two went out of country. All three are practicing doctors now in the US. Personally, I'd like any new healthcare bill to provide incentives for more med schools and much higher volume of students, and incentives for internists and family practioners, and incentives for practicing in rural areas, etc... significantly increasing the number of doctors would help bring down the cost of care and the cost of healthcare insurance. Allowing competition across borders, limiting tort liability, allowing insurance policies that are more bare bone, etc... all would help sign in the cost of our market driven healthcare system.

With all the medical schools around the country that's an amazing stat.
Does any of it have to do with the original ACA or malpractice insurance?

Dip...I don't think ACA had any impact. Legal and financial exposure has forced most Doctors to join large medical groups. The economics of being reimbursed as a specialist versus an internist or family practioner is the major cause for the decline in these family doctors. Simply put, insurance and government reimbursement practices and policy provide too much incentive to become a specialist than a generalist.

Dip,
I think a lot has to do with both the malpractice and the ACA.
I have a hard time out here finding A general Practicioner. I keep getting stuck with PA's
Of varying abilities and experiences, and even they keep moving and changing. Even the VA
Is loaded with PA.
The VA is another nightmare! The last time I went there , I got a new doctor, she went through
The usual computer process, and a few week later the VA called me to tell me that my PSA was
Through the roof and indicated cancer. I told them to send the report to my Urologist, and I
Went right in to see him. He looked at the report and was ready to do a biopsy.
I told him that before he did that, I wanted him to take another PSA test. The test was perfectly
Normal for my age !
Since then, I haven't gone back to the VA. However, with the Trump Administration,
I decided to get back into the system. They say that waits are now very short! What a crock that is.
I called for an appointment for the local clinic, and I was told that the next appointment available
Is late August unless I wanted to go to the main hospital in Phoenix.
Since, I only need my hearing aids adjusted and new Ned's ( which I can get cheaper in Mexico )
I said that I would take the August appointment.

My personal physician has a price list when you walk into his office so there's no hidden fees you know exactly what your cost is going to see him
I don't know if this is true around the country, or if just in Nebraska, or if it's just my personal physician

I agree about the VA they took some shrapnel that has been lodged in me for over a decade out a couple years ago.
I asked my Dr who much cost this would be and he referred me to the VA because the cost would have been so much. When I notified the VA that I willn allowed them to do the surgery the paperwork was ridiculous.

I have a co pay with my insurance so Every visit I just pay the co pay. As far as I know out in my part of Arizona , I never saw a doctor that lists his prices. They should all list their prices as far as I am concerned .

Curious, does this list distinguish between cash and insurance? I've read where some doctors are providing steep discounts for cash patients because they avoid all the paperwork required by insurance and government, etc...

Nope, it has to do with the AMA lobbying Congress to hold down supply of doctors, and to prevent foreign doctors from getting expedited licences,to keep income at high levels.

Besides the waits and red tape, is that too many guys who Walk in , get carried out!

But my question in one lined with are there just not enough young people going to medical school, or is there a cap,?

I mean medical schools have been around for centuries at a minimum.
I know the medical field weather specialist, General Practitioners, not to mention RNs, Administration could be great opportunity. .
So it's definitely a field to get into if you're looking for work/trade.

The many guys who walk in, and get carried out comment is very troubling.

Aside from the bureaucracy getting the surgery wasn't bad for me the doctor was a little young but he seemed to know what he was doing cuz I'm fine.

DIP... not very informed as to why this problem exists. My impression is there are not nearly enough med schools; the ones we have are at capacity; the cost and therefore student loan debt is obscene; and there is an elitist exclusive culture at play. We need more doctors and we need to seriously expand the role of nurse practioners.

Looks like oversight on the "ObamaPhone " shows a lot of abuse,....., shocker.

Actually that's not a shocker. What is interesting is that Claire McCaskill(D) ordered a 98 Day report and being the top ranking Democrat on the oversight committee. That in itself is an even surprising. What is surprising is that she's doing it now.

This program has been out for a long time and now they want to look into oversight.

My guess is with the elections coming up she's going to have to do her job..

I'm sure we have plenty in common. The truth is most Americans do.

I tend to avoid talking about politics here because, like most places on the internet, the discussions often reflect angry, divisive, and pointless rhetoric. For the most part, it comes of as a bunch of whining. I'm not really interested in that sort of exchange. Sometimes I find people having a reasonable exchange, and I'll chime in.

Plus, I think the board is better off when we're focused on fighting and whining over football and recruiting. When there's a lot of political talk going on, the political animosity spills over to other threads.

As far as my politics, I'm a lifelong Democrat that's frustrated with my party's priorities. We've turned into the party that looks like the Island of Misfit Toys instead of the champion of working men and women. I'm deeply troubled by the party's insistence that expanding access to abortion is key to freeing women from poverty rather, when aggressively enforcing equal pay and equal opportunity rights while creating jobs is what's needed. I'm a "clean up your own back yard first" guy, so I really don't have much to say about Republicans or their agenda. And I'm very active in party politics at a state and local level, so I direct my political concerns toward those that can bring about change within the party.

In a nutshell, that's why you don't hear me talk about politics much. I'm pissed off at my party, and I'd rather work at changing it than whine about it.
