Will the war seemingly increasing in Israel drive the market down? Higher oil prices? Btw in terms of oil. Our emergency reserves are low.

Certainly, it made my insomnia worse, I need more alone time in the garage or tooling around the yard to decompress as I’m not much of a work talker as my spouse is. I workout a lot, I find that reading scripture, ND/Bills football, my family and all their sports/activities are what keep me sane.

Most of all, I have an awesome spouse who gets me, who is able to tell when I need a hug or some space without even talking.

This kind of work has probably made me too cautious with my children in some regards. Like their friends parents. My daughters aren’t allowed to sleepover at anyone’s home, and I don’t let them hangout at a friends without both parents being home either.

I keep track of their phone (covertly) until they turn 18, though I will do random inspections in front of them as well.

Children are very tech savy, they don’t understand the long term harm they can do to themselves, their reputations, their future relationships, etc. They will share such Intimate details of their lives with strangers, strangers that aren’t even the strangers they think they are talking to.

Everyone, know where your kids are, make apps like 360 mandatory if they want a phone, they follow your rules. I don’t want anyone to ever receive a call that their child has been abducted, is missing, or even worse..dead. I deal with those cases and it’s life changing.

Oh, and thanks DIP for asking the questions. It actually feels good to tell someone with complete anonymity what this job is like, kind of therapeutic.
I am fortunate my children were in there late teens when they got their cell phones among others obstacles the younger parents face like computers/cyber bullying , ect.
A good woman is winning the lotory. I have say that for decades but I truly appreciate her more now.
Being in the UNMC for 25 yrs. than becoming a drill after leaving I spent alot of time away from the home. Since April I stepped away from work and am more of a consultant because my wife myvwife said uts time to retire because she had a sense. Our first week together she took me to a counselor to help me in a private way to talk about my time in Afghanistan (29 months). I didn't tell her much because I didn't know how. I didn't think she would understand. My ignorance! She seen the change
I've always had a strong faith and felt I walked with God to only find out my wife is the gift God gave me.

It would be impossible for me to do your job without ending up in a jail cell.
I could imagine the self control it must take.and the horrors that you are left with when you're alone.
I pray God's continues to walk with you., and continues to give you the strength to do such good work.
BTW sound like you hit the lottery as well.....such a treasure.....

Higher oil for sure, but Powell helped drive the market down... again. Even the defense sector is taking a hit.

It's interesting reading this thread. There are many tangents reflecting how in real life many folks focus on things that are financial opportunity costs. Even in actual financial specifics, missing the bigger picture.

Save and invest in an S&P500 that produces 9% CAGR as early as possible. Do this and you won't have to worry about politics so much. And you'll have time to research politics better, making better voting and policy support decisions.

I absolutely believe current American social strife is driven by financial insecurity. A simple google search reveals poor short and long term savings. In almost any context, emergency fund or retirement.

Americans keep facing waves of well educated motivated, and hard working global mobile labor. At the lowest end and highest end of the skill spectrum. As discussed earlier the USA has a severe pipelining problem...too many can't nor won't do well paying Dirty Jobs or hi-tech jobs.

Jamie Dimon, that I agree with him on all matters, said years back 40% of Americans average $18/hour. Because too many are in lower wage slower skill jobs. Throw in mismanagement of personal finance...well, Human Nature 101 says such people will support political demagoguery hoping to get something for nothing, to which many seem entitled as well.

The solution to me remains pretty simple and obvious: there should be a TRUE national jobs program aligning education, public policy, and captains of industry to the demand of jobs. This is a matter of national security and prosperity.

We spoke of the importance of teaching finance. Personal and government. So that we can understand why a 134% debt:gdp ratio has to be pared down, knowing what % of GDP should be taxes, how to allocate it intelligently. We need a cultural makeover here.

If not, more Americans will be trapped as a semi-permanent underclass. Again, creditors will increasingly get our income and wealth. Because the USA won't skip a beat...as the economy will continue to roar, including entertainment, which includes college football, which is expensive.

Fans will come to see even a poor product. ND for all its futility in winning a NC still commands $$$. So do lesser programs. No matter how expensive, less than true college football fans will attend, having the money, showing up just for being there.

I'm using college football as an example. I recall working in Florida years ago hanging with college football die hards at sports bars who knew every statistic. Most could buy only 1-2 beers and, when I got to know them, shared economic struggles.

I diplomatically suggested taking that statistics knowledge, which was a talent, and getting a certificate, even a degree in hi-tech for jobs at companies where I consulted. Where H1B immigrants, good people by the way, were making the money, attending the games, able to afford the extras Why not join them?

I spend some time correlating on the ground realities to policies and the associated outcomes. On the basics, like paying rent, mortgage, tuition, vacation, cars, and entertainment. I'll end with my usual rant.

A culture of family, education, work, and money management still produces a dignified socioeconomic outcome in the USA, except for some truly bad luck. But the margin of error is finer than ever. Any mistake in any of these, you can be in big financial trouble. USA is not forgiving for mistakes in terms of lowest level safety net, a price we have to pay for our proven productivity an an economy 20% of global GDP. It is what it is.

I agree with most of your post especially the move to renew vocational/trade schools should be an option (unless i mistook your point)
I too listen to Jamie Dimon. but I do not agree with him on all matters.
I had withdrawl my accounts from JPMC and BOA do to their willingness to give personal financial information to the federal government w/o consent. I dropped AT&T for the same reasons.
JPM ruined Nikola Tesla and has hamstrung innovation (not Jamie Dimon) though I wouldn't put it past him to benefit shareholders
The reason I listen to him is because he is a market mover and agree with a great deal of his positions though again not all.
A culture of family, education, work, and money management still produces a dignified(great line btw) is a must for anyone one to succeed from the single parent to the hedge fund babies

Thank you for your service as well, one of my best friends is retiring next year after 26 yrs and several combat tours, I know it’s been extremely difficult for him at times. He loves serving but his wife too said “it’s time”, she’s a great woman as well. A lot of being successful in life is having a great partner.

I hope you enjoy your retirement brother, you deserve it.

The large majority of these illegals get paid on cash
That is a huge misconception actually. I can only speak to this in Texas, but business owners do not pay in cash, because that exposes them under the law. By facilitating or ignoring the use of fake documentation that is readily available and having completed i9s; it technically absolves them of all wrong doing until they are notified that the documents are fraudulent, which can take months... at which time once notified, they can simply "fire" the employee or report job abandonment and rehire the same person under new documents with a new i9 and again avoid prosecution.

This is rampant.

There you go. A breakdown of most all mask types.

You shouldn't ask for scientifically proven results when getting your facts from non scientific sources ..
Well when the so called scientists get it wrong than what the point.
Those mask were good(maybe) against droplets not when the virus is airborne therefore you would need to go through a decon chamber to enter any place you would need to go

Lol. Right. The entire educational system was in on a huge fake out.... because that's more likely than a research institute just doing an experiment and posting facts.

There is no doubt that masks restrict the spread of debris when the wearer of the mask breathes, coughs or sneezes.

A problem with Covid is the size of the Covid particle.
At one to three microns incoming Covid particles will easily penetrate almost any mask.

A good number of facilities required the wearing of two masks.

So your rant is about one study? Please define "entire educational systen" ?
The facts you stated were about droplets, but not protection from the virus in general and continue to sound like the mouse roared.

I personally wear 10 masks when out in public, 5 when I take a walk in the fresh air, 3 when I am driving alone in my truck and only 1 while hiding under my bed

Lol. Dude sometimes you need to take an L when your opinion is disputed by facts. Moreover you obviously don't understand that almost all airborne transmission is carried on droplets of moisture on exhale. Also a common fact but I don't have time to search that out for you.

He asked for an article. I provided a science journal entry in less than a minute of looking.

Do you want more?

I mean I only have five minutes to search but if you need more let me know.

To those that question science and accept the stupidity of conspiracy theories I say ok, don't wear masks or get vaccinated, bit if you get sick don't go for medical treatment, just suck it up. In the end it may benefit us anyway by eliminating the gene pool

OK Dr. Fraudchi. You keep being a good little soldier and follow the "science". For every one of the so called doctors/scientists who say it works there's others who say they don't. Kind of like all the "scientists" who say the world is heating up/or is it cooling down (oh hell just call it climate change and its all covered). and we will all be dead in 20 years. The so called "vaccine" has been proven not to prevent covid so get back under your bed and put on 5 masks.

And the clown show continues.
The fact that the media and the medical authorities have played you is typical of organizations that have perpetuated falsehoods it literally killed people.
Trying to save face won't be easy.
Airborne virus are not mostly carried by droplets if that was the case.....for example anyone wearing a mask to sand would need to change it constantly due to it being saturated. I bet you still believe the amount of deaths due to covid are true.
Enjoy your mask because COVID is still out there.

LMFAO, 100%? How about 0%, its preventing nothing but maybe reducing severity of symptoms. Let me guess you work for Pfizer or maybe you are Karine Jean Pierres girlfriend. Regardless get that 10th booster shot and get back under your bed before the virus gets you

Unfortunately, what isn’t known are the long term side effects on the various segments of the population.

The consensus seems to be that the older, at risk population and that segment of the population with pre-existing co-morbidities should get the booster. There seems to be reasonable debate regarding the other segments of the population.

There has been an increase in Myocarditis and Pericarditis amongst adolescents and young adult males subsequent to receiving the Covid vaccine.

No one knows the long term side effects !

No the response is the scientific committee started canceling those in thid committee who have written volumes in the medical field like A&M professor Dr. Peter McCullough and scientist Dr.. Robert Malone without debate. A corrupt WHO, and the CDC mishandling the COVID response.
With all those blunders you suggest those who have become skeptics are the problem.....that makes you look silly

I believe that says more about you than anything else

It’s almost 2024, the covid baby games need to stop. Nobody cares if you’re vaccinated or wear a mask, it’s a personal choice. I didn’t know people online were still trying to use personal health decisions as a source of superiority like they were in 2020/2021.

There you go. A breakdown of most all mask types.

You shouldn't ask for scientifically proven results when getting your facts from non scientific sources ..

Lol, that was not my point and you know it. I asked rhetorically because I know all too well the efficiency of such. Now please share with all your knowledge, how many Americans used the N95 in 2020 and 2021, or used SCUBA, or were fitted properly for cartridged respirators ….as compared to those commonly used paper masks, and every other cloth fabric used as a mask…

Save you some time….all those masks not N95 or SCUBA or respirator fitted are 15% effective at 6 feet distance. Argue all you want on that number but it’s far from 100% which is the meaningful number.

And as we now know, because the govt has quietly admitted …the vaccine was 0% effective in stopping spread. The vaccine was worthwhile to mitigate effects of those that were infected, so it was good for that reason.

This is so YOU….bet you are a zealous supporter of abortion as well? Lol

This vaccine was needed for two groups of people, the sick or compromised, and the elderly. Not for kids, not for healthy teenagers and adults. Likewise, quarantining those groups was the proper response. OFF LIMITS!! Also, changing up school and office routines to have positive effect to help protecting those groups, through spread from students and teachers, was a reasonable ask.

I ask you, why then were the borders allowed to stay open? We shut down the economy but allowed 5k per day of illegals immigrants to enter and then shipped them all over the US. Doesn’t make a lot of sense. Let’s save that for another day.

The claim that vaccines were needed to prevent spread have now been fully debunked (the left media just doesn’t use the same energy to admit it was wrong). Their value was reducing the risk of death for those groups. The side effects of this vaccine is worse than the norm, very much expected when you rush it through the systems. Some that resisted the vaccine had valid reasons for it.

Let me get political. I’ll ask you, why didn’t Biden or the media call out, or continue to call out, the AA community for their lackluster commitment to getting vaccinated? Also another topic which I’m sure would be entertaining to hear your reply.

But your usual handbook response of calling it conspiracy theory to challenge the effectiveness of the vaccine is ludicrous.

Back to the market....
Yesterday I sold early
Today I bought back what I sold at a cheaper cost.

Personally speaking I am in the same boat as a lot of people; going to have to scale back on spending to pay down debt.
