WOW...I did not see that coming. And yes I was bitching during the Temple game about how we had to make a statement and a 4 point win wasn't good enough. Once again I have been proven to know nothing except to stop posting during the games.

I think it will be more nuanced than that. Obviously, ND needs to win out, but there's also a risk of teams behind ND jumping them. Hopefully our opponents continue to win, and more undefeated and one-loss teams pile up Ls.

The problem is all the teams in front of us -their toughest games are against teams breathing down our neck. So if OSU loses to MSU, we dont move up, MSU jumps us. Probably the same with Clemson v. FSU. So, we can get to 4 when one of the SEC teams is eliminated from the top 4, but if we are to hold off a TCU or Baylor we HAVE to get to 3. Cant be at 4, in that first out position.

objectively to be fair the SEC has to have a spot in playoffs. They have the overwhelmingly superior talent and the only losses are intra league! how do you penalize them because they have more talented teams?

we have to remember that the big 12 hasnt begun to play each other yet at the top. Once they start racking up quality wins, i see 1 of them jumping up there. Obviously, the LSU/Bama loser will drop out, letting ND into the top 4 for a week if we win i assume. will be interesting to see how they treat ND going forward. If we do get into the top 4, will they drop a ratings bananza like ND out? If we were to get to #4 and have the 1st game be a shot at Clemson again, i think thats as good of a setup as we could ask for.
Control the controlables. Win out and see what happens, everything else is noise

Well, ND would be #1 right now if Kelly knew when and when not to go for 2. Just sayin.
Very much a pleasant surprise. I will say this though : I am cynical that these polls mean much right now. I think it is about publicity in order to generate excitement. I just remember last season it seemed like each subsequent poll was a clean slate. If they are going to rank and re-rank based on previous weeks then we are in great shape if we can win out. There are a lot of big games though and I can see us getting jumped if we win the next three games in nail-biting fashion.
