Mike Leach on the Playoff committee

How many people who are "outraged" today are the same people who said bringing a playoff to college football devalues the regular season? The hypocrites are out there and always will be.

Anyway....yes. He's obviously right and I said from Day 1 that a 4 team playoff was stupid, just like a 2 team BCS was stupid, and just like people voting on the champion was stupid. Just imagine if the way college football determines a champion was proposed for ANY other sport. The NFL playoffs? 4 teams (whether voted on by a committee or not), MLB, NBA, etc. It's all madness. Thankfully next year CFB will FINALLY have a real playoff and yes even though it's still by committee, it's 12 teams. Sympathy for #13 will be very hard to come by. It would still be better if was more of a conferences/NFL/etc-style system where that's removed entirely, but 12 teams is a lot better than anything before it.

And what will happen next year? Many of the people whining right now about FSU being excluded will whine that the CFB regular season is now "devalued." For one thing it's not, if anything it will be MORE valuable because of how many more teams now will still have something to play for if they lose, and 2nd, you can't have it both ways. Don't whine about the dumb-ass injustices that happen at the end of the year in this stupid system that result from your "exciting" or however you choose to term it regular season with the system as-is.

Just way, way too many people that are only happy when they're miserable. So go ahead and watch the same people complain next year about a playoff that resolves these issues.

Thanks for sharing OP.

I'm a big fan of coach leach, but his logic doesn't add up when you consider the same thing can be said about the BCS and the old AP style polling. College football is different and that is what makes it special. Most CFB fans don't want CFB to be like the other leagues.

I also dismiss the notion entirely that a group of high integrity industry professionals (many of whom are ex coaches and industry insiders) aren't qualified to decide who the 4 best teams in college football are.

They got endless tools at their disposal, the only thing the college football industry needs to worry about is the playoff committee's integrity and there has been zero scandal and they've done a good job and have gotten it right more often than not.
