The struggling Irish (10-15, 2-12 ACC) will be thrust into the national spotlight tonight at Duke (17-8, 8-6) in Mike Brey’s final game in Cameron Indoor as Notre Dame’s head coach. The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. EST.

Brey’s college coaching career started at Duke when he was hired by Mike Krzyzewski in 1987. He spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for the Blue Devils before being hired as Delaware’s head coach in 1995. Krzyzewski is expected to attend the game, which will be his first back since retiring at the end of last season.

But Brey’s Notre Dame farewell tour won’t distract from the poor play the Irish have put on the court for the last two months. The Irish have lost 13 of their last 16 games and haven’t won a game away from Purcell Pavilion all season.

Duke isn’t having a banner season in Jon Scheyer’s first season as head coach. The Blue Devils enter the night tied for seventh in the ACC after back-to-back losses at Miami and Virginia.

Notes from Duke:

• Junior guard Jeremy Roach (6-foot-2) has scored 99 points over his last seven games (14.1) since returning from a toe injury, including 16.8 points over the last four games that saw him score 21 points in a win over Wake Forest, 20 in a win over North Carolina and 16 at No. 8 Virginia.

• Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski (7-0), the seven-time ACC Rookie of the Week, leads all conference freshmen in rebounding and double-doubles. His 11 double-doubles are the most by any freshman nationally, while his 9.2 rebounds lead all power conference freshmen.

From me: In addition to Filipowski, the Blue Devils regularly start center Dereck Lively II (7-1). The Irish will have a significant size disadvantage.

• Freshman guard Tyrese Proctor (6-5) is averaging 11.6 points over his last nine games after a 7.4 average over the first 16. Classmate Dariq Whitehead has scored 11.0 points over his last nine games played (missed four with an injury).
