Kelly really needs to beat O$U. People can argue about how good of a coach he is but, IMO, Kelly and ND cannot reach that upper echelon until they beat a good opponent in a major bowl.I still LOVE Lou Holtz for all he did for ND.........BK's gotta win the NC the get to that level of "ND Coach-man worship" with me.
not a major bowl but lsu last year was definitely a quality opponent. i live in ohio. not much excitement about the game from the osu fan base.Kelly really needs to beat O$U. It's been over 20 years since ND beat a quality opponent in a major bowl. Kelly has never done it. This is a huge game for Kelly and ND.

Everyone except you.LSU was 8-4 and nobody viewed them as a quality team last year.
No, everyone that knew college football. If they were viewed as a good team they would not have been playing in the Music City Bowl. A meaningless bowl watched only by fans of the teams.Everyone except you.
Pure melodrama -- ND had a Top Ten team this year w a freshman QB , Fr TE, Fr RB and a depleted secondary . They will have a top 10 recruiting class - mission accomplishedKelly really needs to beat O$U. Well, ND was actually ranked 11th in both the AP and coaches preseason pool but your point is still valid. That said I think ND received the ranking because they had just about every starter returning. Not so fast my friend. LSU was loaded with NFL talent in 2014. They lost to Alabama in OT in which they should have won in regulation. They also beat Ole Miss, Wisconsin, and Texas A&M. Still the SEC. The Irish victory over LSU excited all the college football experts who ranked the Irish in the top ten to open 2015.

My point is nobody, viewed LSU as a top 10 team at the end of the year, heck they weren't even a top 15 team. If I'm mistaken they were not even a top 25 team heading into the bowl.
IMO, ND and Kelly needs to beat a top team in a top bowl game to reach that next level of being elite.
It really is. I have stated here many times how well I think Kelly has done recruiting every year. That said, recruiting becomes much easier if kids view you as elite and a playoff contender every year.^ correct. Image is everything.
I tend to agree. I haven't been impressed with O$U this year and I think too many of their players have already checked out of college and into the NFL.ND and BK will tomorrow. ND 27 OSU 23
^ correct. Image is everything.

Hopefully, Kelly has worked with BVG during this time to tweak the defense.
Irish didn't blow anything - they were simply outscored by quality opponentsI believe the Irish had there chance this year for the big win against Clemson and Stanford but blew it. They were more meaningful games then the coming exhibition against Ohio State.
Injuries killed the Irish this year ! We would be undefeated this year I believe with even half the injuries.
Irish didn't blow anything - they were simply outscored by quality opponents
winning either of those games given all the injuries would have been pulling a rabbit out of a hat
Silly to not call that game a quality win. Now a win tomorrow is clearly on another level. No, everyone that knew college football. If they were viewed as a good team they would not have been playing in the Music City Bowl. A meaningless bowl watched only by fans of the teams.
Just one more for 25,000 - will you save it for the new year or bring it on when the ball drops in Times Sq ?

We gagged, took the pipe, choked, spit the bit....against Stanford. It was a collapse for the ages. Watch how our prevent drops into fg range on the last pass play. That was a coaching blunder for the ages.
Simply outscored....hahahah It's called losing.
kelly can step up tomorrow or still maintain the Music City Bowl as his crowning Bowl achievement.

I guess it comes down to what you define as blowing it. On one hand, ND came within two plays of winning both games against quality opponents as the visiting team; on the other, they had numerous turnovers and dropped passes against Clemson and they allowed Stanford to march down the field with ease and score after taking the lead with 28 seconds left. I think the later qualifies as blowing it.Irish didn't blow anything - they were simply outscored by quality opponents

Unlike most here, I am not an alum, just a lifetime fan of the university and what it stands for.
That would make two with Tillery , right?A lot of ND players are disappointing. It is nonstop rule violations.
EXACTLY!!!!Only in todays soft and narcissistic society does sending a player home for missing curfew seem "draconian". Was it draconian when Lou Holtz sent Tony Brooks and Ricky Watters packing before the USC game in 1988? Being on time says I respect myself, my teammates, my commitment to the cause, and it says you can count on me to be where I am supposed to be.
Again, those who have been in the midst of a football locker room as a player or a coach or if someone has served in the Armed Forces, or in my case all of the above. Applauds Brian Kelly for this decision.
