today our irish take on what us in state irish and iu fans would call the evil empire in the boilermakers from Lafayette. should be a great game between two really good teams that can really shoot the ball well. the key in my opinion will be stopping Purdue's big guys inside from dominating and killing us on the boards. beachem also has to step up and have a big game unlike the nova game where he only scored 4 pts. our irish are the best free throw shooting team in the nation and so that could be a factor if purdue fouls our irish a lot

11-9 at first time out. Irish doing ok. Got to tighten up D a bit. But so far, shooting ok, rebounding ok.

our irish are doing a great job of getting to the rim against a taller team

when you are making shots and not turning the ball over then you are going to be tough to beat and our irish are doing that. if purdue doesn't play better defense in the second half then this will be another beatdown of the boilers by our irish

Gotta play both halfs. Purdue came out much much stronger. Lead us gone in a blink of an eye. Gotta dig in now

Last week against Vanillanova it was Beachum who couldn't buy a bucket ... today it looks like its Vasturia ... the guy normally shoots well, today he is missing everything.

Agreed, can't beat top teams if Vasturia and Beachem don't show up. We are simply to thin on the block to overcome that

I thought ND would have won one of these past 2 games. Epic fail by Brey and the players.

Two good team with very different strengths ... ND had no answer for Swanigan and Colson wears down when he has to play defense on skilled big men. To win a game like this you need more from Vasturia. We had 5 straight possessions under 4 minutes without a shot.

Agree. Vasturia did not bring it today, and the Irish are way to thin/short inside to overcome that. it's gonna be a tough year against teams that are strong inside. Vasturia and Beachem have to show up every game.

back to back second half choke jobs by our irish in big games against nova and purdue. you just cannot have two of the top three scorers for you not show up in big games like beachem against nova and now vastoria against purdue . our irish were horrible on defense in the second half also

Down by 3 with 30 seconds to go. Farrell quickly brings the ball up and passes to Ryan who immediately launches a downtown 3 pt attempt. Result = air ball. Granted, he's a good shooter and if he makes it we are tied. But he doesn't and that's essentially the game. No attempt to work for a better shot or run any sort of play.
To me this summarizes ND men's bball "strategy" - let the players wing it and if it works out, Brey looks like a genius. If it doesn't, oh well - we're a football school. Or at least we used to be one.

You have to drive to the basket ... they have to ply soft d with a 3 point lead and not foul or allow the lockout ... make it a 1 point game and play foul shots vs possessions

How come Brey can't get more depth inside? Are the recruits just not showing up?

Good question. Seems like we're overloaded with outside players. For the bigs, Geben is still developing, Torres is really too short, Colson is small but plays big, thats about it. Would be nice to have 2 or 3 well developed bigs every year.

our wbb team has the same problem as most of the 6-4 plus centers that they have recruited recently have chosen either Baylor or UConn even though they could get faster playing time in south bend
