I actually think Wisconsin would beat Penn State head to head, so I agree with you. But the odds may be with Penn State.Understood. But the FSU poster said that PSU was the probable winner of the Big 10. That is not true.

Notre Dame...if it were to join a conference, should join the Big 12. It is in desperate need of a big name to reinvigerate that conference...and it would be formidable with the right name. Forget the B1G....joining would dilute Notre Dame...but not in the B12. Texas and Oklahoma would welcome Notre Dame as the third leg on the Big Boy Stool. I like that idea.
Jeez, Louisville, c'mon.Notre Dame would be a terrible "cultural" fit with the Big 12 which is a dumber version of the SEC. You'd fit a lot better with the ACC's wine and cheese teams.
Using USNWR rankings the schools attached to the teams (or vice versa depending on your perspective) with ND to show in each are:
ACC > Big 10 > Big 12
#8 Duke > #12 Northwestern > #15 ND
#15 ND = #15 ND > #56 Texas
#24 UVA > #27 Michigan > #71 Baylor
#27 WF > #44 Illinois > #82 TCU
#30 UNC > #44 Wisconsin > #111 Oklahoma
#31 BC > #50 Penn State > #111 Iowa State
#34 GT > #54 Ohio State > #118 Kansas
#44 Miami > #60 Purdue > #138 Kansas State
#60 Syracuse = #60 Maryland > #158 Oklahoma State
#66 Clemson > #70 Rutgers > #176 Texas Tech
#68 Pitt > #71 Minnesota > #183 West Virginia
#74 VT > #82 MSU
#92 FSU < #82 Iowa
#92 NC State < #86 Indiana
#171 UL < #111 Nebraska
Or here's another way to compare, a joint list with the ACC in Caps and Bold, Big 10 in first Cap letter and Big 12 in all lower case and italics

Understood. But the FSU poster said that PSU was the probable winner of the Big 10. That is not true.

I agree, and though I won't like it but at some point ND will be forced to join a conference. When that time comes and ND starts looking for which conference is the best fitWhat other conference is ND going to be allowed to compete in all sports and still stay independent in football? Big 10? No! Big 12? No! SEC? No!
Should have/could have ND stayed with the new Big East?
I ask because I don't know.
Interesting perspectiveND and a few others need to form another Ivy league type conference, w/o athletic scholarships.
That might be the dignified direction for ND. ND is play-pretend as a football 'power'; that ship has sailed and will not be returning to port!
"Relevant again"? We won the title three years ago not twenty nine like Notre Dame and have three titles since the last time you won one. And we were ranked #2 this year and will be ranked in the top 5 next year preseason with all that's coming back considering our current #15 ranking is the product of a rebuilding year.
I want Notre Dame fully in only for two reasons, 1) it's embarrassing having a halfastericks team in the conference rather than full members as it makes us look like the Big East and 2) if Notre Dame and Texas join then the ACC will be the #1 conference in everything (money, eyeballs and SOS) and who doesn't want to be #1? Texas will not be down forever as they are a dominant program in the biggest real football state and I have hopes that Notre Dame and Miami will eventually climb back into respectability and at least be solid middle pack additions and maybe once every five to ten years challenge at the top.
Besides, the ACC is 2-1 against the Big Ten (beat probable Big Ten winner Penn State & Indiana, while Duke lost at Northwestern) and 3-2 against SEC (Auburn, Ole Miss Vanderbilt and lost to Tennessee and Georgia) and are favored in all 4 remaining ACC/SEC matchups so we should be 7-2 or at worst 6-3 by years end.[/QUOTE
That was a long windy narrative trying to prove your relevance.
Stanford has the same issue, and they don't recruit nationally.
I agree, and though I won't like it but at some point ND will be forced to join a conference. When that time comes and ND starts looking for which conference is the best fit
I believe that the best place is the Big 10.
I know NDSMC I know but times have changed and I believe he Big 10 welcomes ND with open arms without malice.
The history shared between Notre Dame in the Big 10 is one of the strongest of all times
The Big 10 only wants us for our money and the TV sets we turn on. They would screw us every chance they get.
I do not believe that to be true. The Big 10 only wants us for our money and the TV sets we turn on. They would screw us every chance they get.
I 100% believe it. The ACC will treat us with respect, the Big 10 will treat us with scorn.I do not believe that to be true.
ND brings slot to the table, and the times are different. ND being a full member will have an equal voice and the clout to be heard.
The Big 10 is a smart conference, and their commissioner has built the big 10 into a strong conference.
Not only is it good business it's smart business.
But I believe this happens ONLY if NDs hands are tied, and having to join a conference
I 100% believe it. The ACC will treat us with respect, the Big 10 will treat us with scorn.
Show me on the doll where FSU touched you.
Don't you have somewhere you need to be?This sounds like the many questions TPD should ask occasionally relative to the serial sexual abuse by Winston and others!
I 100% believe it. The ACC will treat us with respect, the Big 10 will treat us with scorn.
I would be happy with the Big 12, the ACC not so much.no way should Notre Dame ever join the B1G. ACC maybe...I still prefer the Big 12 so a legitimate 12 teams could make up that conference....Its worth saving. ACC? Yeah, maybe.
Lol
You're joking right?
The ACC is a one trick pony....a hack football conference
They bring NOTHING to elevate ND. There's simple only one choice and that's the big 10
That's a little harsh brother the reality is a conference affiliation will be forced on the Irish and I don't like it, but the Big 10 makes the most sense all aroundIf we ever join the Big 10, ND is through. We may as well just drop football.

Nope. The Big 10 is no friend of ND.
PSU and Nebraska suffered greatly for joining. The Big 10 is run for the benefit of O$U and UM period. That's a little harsh brother the reality is a conference affiliation will be forced on the Irish and I don't like it, but the Big 10 makes the most sense all around
The past is the past it is not in the Big 10s interest to offer the Irish a membership and not them to succeed.
PSU Didn't suffer but I do agree the huskers did take a step back but have rebound. I not sure why they left the Big 12.PSU and Nebraska suffered greatly for joining. The Big 10 is run for the benefit of O$U and UM period.
I agree with most of you post but the Big 12 is a better fit than the ACC.Independence in football is who you are; your identity. Joining the ACC as a partial member was a mistake, and unnecessary. I understand why your administration did so, but I believe there were better alternatives.
And no, the B10 is not a good match for ND, other then geography and a bit of history (which I understand goes both directions). The B10 if filled with large, research oriented institutions. The outside perception of ND is a school more focused on undergraduate education. In that regard, the ACC is probably the best fit, but really any conference affiliation for football is a bad idea.
I can't argue with that, but no matter where the Irish end that conference will want NDs money.Poet, the Big 10 schools hate ND. Their fans hate ND. All they want is our money.
So we should hook up with a bunch of mediocre huge state schools to help maintain our Catholic identity instead of schools like Duke, Wake Forest, Miami, Georgia Tech, BC, UVA, etc? Seriously?not trying to bring politics into the equation...but from a cultural standpoint, conference alignment must be evaluated in its entirety. Notre Dame's cultural, Catholic values are indeniable. Those would assimilate better in the Big 12 class of schools than the ACC, which is entirely liberal. Notre Dame's Catholic value system must be respected by any conference alignment. I see that as a problem in any conference, but it comes down to the lesser of all evils...and the Big 12 looks to be the least of all.
The ACC's liberal intolerance would smother the Catholic identity under full membership....and Notre Dame would be forced to make compromises not consistent with its mission. So we should hook up with a bunch of mediocre huge state schools to help maintain our Catholic identity instead of schools like Duke, Wake Forest, Miami, Georgia Tech, BC, UVA, etc? Seriously?

Since the only other Catholic D1 football school is already in the ACC, why don't we ask them about it?The ACC's liberal intolerance would smother the Catholic identity under full membership....and Notre Dame would be forced to make compromises not consistent with its mission.
BC had little options, when ND decids to go into a conference they will have many sutterdSince the only other Catholic D1 football school is already in the ACC, why don't we ask them about it?
You think Penn St. is going to win the Big 10? Where did you come up with that gem?
