They are thinking of giving the regular season champion a bye and letting the 2nd and 3rd place teams play in the ACC championship.

So, the regular season champion won't be eligible for a bye in the CFP, but they'll ensure getting 2 or maybe 3 teams in the playoff.

At that point just get rid of the ACC championship game.

It's called gaming the system. ACC regular season champion will most likely be a top 10 maybe top 5 team. 2nd and 3rd place teams maybe top 10-20.

If regular season champion doesn't play in title game they'll get in at-large, leaving another slot for the ACC title game winner getting an autobid and 1st round bye.

It's also called being arguably the weakest overall conference in CFB.

The SEC didn't exactly perform well in the post season, and one could argue the SEC's rankings were overinflated.

Maybe.

That said, the ACC was embarrassingly awful in the post season, which is why you see articles like this.

Instead of "...gaming the system...," the ACC needs to step up their game.

How about the suggestion of having the top 4 teams play in the final two regular season games? How could a school market/sell season tickets under such a convoluted scheme? Buy ticket to the first 5 home games, then its potluck after that?? Crazy.

Great username. Arch would be proud.

Super conf need to split into 9 or 8 team divisions. Play 6 division games to start season then flex scheduling with 1-3 playing each other in cross over games. 4-6 and 7-9 ect.. Eliminate conf champ games and start playoffs after end of regular season. That means sacrficing last week rivalry games but makes it much more fair.

This is the entire problem with conferences consisting of so many schools. Schools can go years without playing each other. Isn't the purpose of being in a conference to actually play the other schools in the conference?

It's not for two games. It just the last game of the regular season, and then the conference championship game is played like normal.

I 100% agree but only real solution to the mess they created.

Conference champ is nothing more than a cash grab at this point. And people still say ND "needs" to join a conference.
What was it before, could you explain what is was before, now that it's devolved into nothing but a cash grab? Surely it had some sort of utility, that was justifiable and conceptually valid, even for a conference-hating fanatical ND fan. What was that utility?

If you're really asking, then you need to read my post. You have a tendency to completely ignore what people write and frantically push your narrative.

Conference championship games were used to determine outright Conference champs and determine who is most deserving of a trip to a national championship or major bowl game. It did serve a purpose, but with a 12 team playoff, it longer does.

Actually they should split it further into pods similar to the NFL. Have 4 or 5 divisions of 4-5 teams each. The teams within the division play annually. They play each of the other divisions on a rotating basis. Regardless conferences are just causing more problems for themselves.

Agree. Whatever the NFL does, copy and paste.

IT was. Now the 'conference' is a media company.
