James Flanigan had already won state titles in shot put (2024) and discus (2023) during his high school career at Notre Dame de la Baie Academy in Green Bay, Wisc. This weekend the future Notre Dame tight end capped his career by winning the 2025 state titles in both at the WIAA Division 2 level.
Flanigan won the shot put with a heave of 59 feet and seven inches. His winning discus throw went 188 feet and five inches.
Younger brother Richie Flanigan, who Notre Dame is recruiting as a 2027 defensive tackle, finished fourth in the shot put (55-5) and eighth in the discus (157-7) as a sophomore.
Father Jim Flanigan still holds the state meet record in the shot put at 64-8.75.
