I'm not saying what I'm proposing is anyway realistic, but this is how I would ideally set up the college football landscape.

How does this affect Notre Dame?
In short, it benefits them. We would still have our deal with the ACC and play 5 teams from their conference per year. We could continue playing our rivals and would not have to worry about people complaining that we don't have to play a conference championship game. We'd also continue to be tied into their bowl game agreements.
Did I miss anything? How would you guys ultimately like to have it set up?
- First, no conference would have more than 10 teams. There are NO MORE conference championship games. Each conference would play 9 conference games (everyone in your conference) and it would be up to each individual conference to decide how they do tie-breakers.
- Below, I removed some teams from FBS status. Again, it's unrealistic, but to make this as succinct as possible, I wanted 13 conferences with 10 teams each (along with 4 schools with "Independent" status).

- Using this years schedule, I would have the season set-up like so:
09/08/18: Game 2
09/15/18: Game 3
09/22/18: Game 4
09/29/18: Game 5
10/06/18: Game 6
10/13/18: BYE WEEK
10/20/18: Game 7
10/27/18: Game 8
11/03/18: Game 9
11/10/18: Game 10
11/17/18: Game 11
11/24/18: Game 12
- I would have a universal bye week on 10/13/18 and coordinate with the NFL if they wanted to use that Saturday to split up their games for that weekend.
- Because there are no more conference championship games, I would move the playoff to eight teams.
- HOWEVER, I would not give automatic bids to conference championship winners. I despise the idea of doing that because a team can schedule three terrible teams in the out of conference just to assure that they get a few easy wins.
- I believe the best eight teams should make it in, period. Whether that means that three SEC schools make it in or zero BIG 10 teams get in.
- I would get rid of the committee entirely and go back to a BCS like formula that ranks all 134 teams starting after Week 6. People who are smarter than me could figure out the best metrics to use for doing that, but I believe a part of it should absolutely be your SOS of out of conference opponents (aka don't schedule FCS schools or you severely risk going to the playoffs).
- I would also eliminate the large number of bowl games. I know this is TOTALLY unrealistic because CFB wants to make money. I'm a capitalist, I get it. But they have become so devalued that it doesn't mean anything anymore.
- When it comes to the playoff, the four games (Elite 8) are played the following Saturday (12/01/18) at the higher seeds home field. This allows for home field advantage and students to still be on campus.
- The next round(s) of bowl games will be set-up in different tiers:
- Tier 4
- Military Bowl - Independent vs At-Large
- Alamo Bowl - Conference USA (2) vs Big North (2)
- Liberty Bowl - Big East (2) vs Sun Belt (2)
- New Orleans Bowl - Conference USA (1) vs Sun Belt Conference (1)
- Pinstripe Bowl - Big East (1) vs Big North (1)
- Tier 3
- Music City Bowl - ACC (3) vs Big 10 (3)
- Sun Bowl - AAC (3) vs Big South (3)
- Holiday Bowl - MWC (3) vs PAC 10 (3)
- Gator Bowl - MAC (3) vs SEC (3)
- Tier 2
- Peach Bowl - AAC (2) vs SEC (2)
- Citrus Bowl - ACC (2) vs MWC (2)
- Outback Bowl - Big 10 (2) vs MAC (2)
- Cotton Bowl - Big South (2) vs PAC 10 (2)
- Tier 1
- Sugar Bowl - SEC (1) vs Big South (1)
- Fiesta Bowl - MAC (1) vs MWC (1)
- Rose Bowl - Big 10 (1) vs PAC 10 (1)
- Orange Bowl - AAC (1) vs ACC (1)
- Tier 4
- This eliminates 6-6 teams going to bowls and truly makes going to a bowl game special again.
- The Final Four games would be played on New Year's Eve (this season) at one location (which will be the same location for the national championship game).
- The CFP National Championship would take place a week later on 01/07/18.
09/01/18: Game 1
09/08/18: Game 2
09/15/18: Game 3
