Then why the "If" for the football team? Regardless of the football team, these teams still did well and had a great year.

If the ND football team can win the national title it doesn't matter then what the other spots teams do. ND is football.

Football regular seasons at ND will be 8-4 on average for the near future. Knowledgeable people knew when Kelly was hired that the max out would be 9 wins a season. The only sport the football team is better than is the baseball team. Five years in, do the math.That's with constant idiotic mistakes made by the head coach. Brutal schedule in 2015 will have CBK feeling the pressure early and often. The brand of football being played under Kelly is quite boring too. If you don't have a stud QB the games are simply boring.

I like the hiring of the new assistant coaches. I am hoping for a strong start to the season. Obviously we need to win our opener but I am pointing to the home game against Georgia Tech as the pivotal game. Our defense has to rise to the occasion and stop that funky offense. Anything is possible with a strong start to the season.
