If Kelly comes back, which assistants must go?

I think Kelly returning for one more year is the most likely scenario considering the lack of coaching candidates across the country.

However, if I'm Swarbrick there are several assistants I would force Kelly to replace.

Heistand: This man has done less with more than any other position coach on the staff. He has top 100 OL recruits flocking into South Bend year after year yet he can't even coach them up to control the LOS against below average opponents. His OLs have a history of being toilet paper soft in the trenches and committing drive-killing penalties at the worse possible times.

Booker: He has single-handily destroyed a once proud tradition of TEs at ND and he evens sucks as a special teams coach. Dude should be coaching TEs for a Sun Belt team.

Gilmore: Average DL coach which means he should be coaching at a place like Missouri, not Notre Dame.

Lyght: This guy is clearly in over his head. Our DBs are poorly coached and it shows on Saturdays with tackling, angles and turning.their head to track the football in the air. The only way I would keep Lyght on staff is if we hired another CB or safeties coach that Lyght could learn under. if that doesn't happen, then Lyght has no business being in full charge of ND's secondary.

And another stipulation if I'm Swarbrick, whatever DC is brought in better run a 3-4 defense.

Just wondering what some of you think about the assistants that must go if Kelly is retained for another year.

No way they stay. The BK time is over.

This is not opinion..but ...

He looks like a total jackass. Calling timeout to punt.
Passing repeatedly in a hurricane. He can't overcome adversity and trying times. Crowd, weather, ...our coach wets himself. Where is our big game upset win under BK's tenure? When stakes are high he just never comes through.

Kelly rightfully deserved the credit when the team was playing hard and winning, and he deserves the blame when the team is playing soft with poor fundamentals and losing. No doubt BVG was a terrible hire, but the poor play extends beyond the defense, and the issues go way beyond scheme. Not one to cherry pick firing a bunch of assistants, as they represent the judgement of the head coach and that is where the accountability rests.

If Kelly stays past this season one thing is obvious: ND doesn't care about football in the least. And we should follow their example should they retain Kelly.
