We beat you last year.
We beat Stanford this year and completely dominated them
Your best wins are Navy, USC, and Temple.
We play in the best conference in the country.
You lose to Stanford.
We have the same record.

Isn't the team that beat Stanford better than the team that lost to Stanford?

Well the Big is maybe as good as the MAC - hope that helps!

Because ND is a better team than Northwestern, d-bag.

Are there no rules on this board? I know most boards don't allow personal attacks like calling a poster a d-bag.

No. There are no rules on this board.
Like most Northwestern fans, it just irks the crap out of you that ND can be successful in sports and still be a top twenty academic institution. I hope it keeps you awake at night, chump. Now get lost.

It is questions/threads like this that make me wish the world government would just get on with the purge already.
Did you want to purge everyone that suggested that Notre Dame should be in playoff over Oklahoma because you beat Texas and they lost to Texas? It's literally the same argument.

The Big 10 played crappy schedules, by and large.
ND had the # 19 SOS, according to Sagarin.
Michigan's SOS was # 42.
Northwestern's SOS was # 44.
Ohio St's SOS was # 61.
Iowa's SOS was # 62.
You may find that to be worth crowing about. I do not.

It's not a personal attack. It's a factual statement. Trolling is also not permitted here either, yet your puerile behavior is tolerated. If you don't like the way you're treated here, then go back to the Northwestern board---if they even have one.

I would add that you are also a liar: you said in a post last week that that post would be your last.

I realize that since Notre Dame is a non-research university you may not know how to do research, but a quick internet search will provide the rules of the board. I will provide them for you as you were probably too lazy to put in the extra work that it'll take to get into a top 10 university like Northwestern. You're in violation of rules 1 and 3.

Forum Rules
  1. No profanity, racist or sexist comments. This includes using abbreviations or changing one letter of a swear word such that the word(s) are still interpreted by most as profane.
  2. No pornographic or obscene material of any kind. Any user posting pornographic pictures, or links to such material will be blacklisted. This includes materials within a signature file or avatar.
  3. No attacking other posters. If you feel the need to harass another poster, don't do it. What is considered attacking other posters?
    • Bringing up their name in posts that they did not start or were not involved in, just to get a reaction from them.
    • Consistently responding to their posts and responding with no merit other than to belittle them.
    • In short, making a poster a target.
  4. Do not post unsubstantiated rumors about players, coaches, etc. If you have a link to a news story, that is one thing. But if you have heard something 'from a friend of a friend,' this is not the website to post innuendo and rumor. Those posts will be removed.
  5. No repetitive negative posting. What makes a repetitive post? If you come to the forum and consistently say the exact same thing about the exact same topic day in and day out, that is being repetitive. Be sure to understand that no one is saying that you can not be critical. But this site will not be overrun by the same people coming on the site day after day saying the same negative things.
  6. No flaming: If a poster come onto the board with the intent only to flame, and continues to post nothing but flames or engages in no substantive discussion, the poster's posts will be deleted and the poster will be banned at the monitor's discretion.
  7. No attacks on players or coaches. Criticism is allowed, and encouraged if the shoe fits. But that does NOT mean you have free range to bash or alienate a player or coach with your comments. If you disagree with how they played or the effort they put forward, please voice your opinion and state why you hold that opinion. If it's something you would not say to their faces, then don't post it.
  8. No attacking recruits: Just because a player may choose another school does not give you the right to blast them, in any circumstance. There will be zero tolerance on this issue.
  9. No posting of commercial offers, competing websites or spamming of the board will be permitted.: All threads will be deleted at the discretion of the board monitor.
  10. No posting or or distribution any material that infringes and/or violates any right of a third party or any law. Post will be deleted and member can be banned at the monitors discretion. This means no posting of premium information from other web sites.
  11. Do not give out your personal information on the message board or chat room. Please keep in mind that whenever you give out personal information (such as your email, phone number etc.) online --- for example, via message boards or chat --- that information can be collected and used by people you don't know. You give out your personal information at your own risk. We are not responsible for any actions that occur if you give out your personal information.
  12. No fishing. Do not attempt to trick fellow posters into posting their email address by promising the inside scoop on a situation. These poor attempts at humor are very disruptive to the board.
  13. No dominating the conversation. Do not dominate the conversation, whether it is a single thread, or the overall conversation on the board for the day. A successful message board community involves give and take. If one poster contributes too much, to the point of disrupting the community, he or she may be banned.
  14. Terms of service. By subscribing, registering or using the sites, you agree that Rivals and or the publisher(s) and board moderators of the sites have the right, in addition to other rights, to delete your posts or blacklist you or any other user at any time, if they believe that action is in the best interest of the sites, for whatever reason, and the reason need not be disclosed. For more information, you can read the Terms of Service for subscribers HERE.

Here's a good post with at least some good content... but the problem is you lost to all the good teams that you played (Clemson and Stanford). You beat some above average teams (Navy, Temple, USC). And then you beat some ACC bottom feeders. Sorry, but NU beat Stanford, ND lost to Stanford. This is the playoff committees rules:
  • Head-to-head competition (if it occurred)
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)

You're also a hypocrite:

I'm not flaming. I'm asking a legitimate question about Notre Dame football. How is it possible that you're ahead of Northwestern when the common opponent test implicates that Northwestern is a better team.

please. on a neutral field usc would be at least a 7 point favorite over northwestern. your division of the big 10 is awful. iowa gets exposed saturday.

Do you really need it spelled out for you? Because it's obvious to everyone except maybe Northwestern/Big Ten fans that ND is a better team than Northwestern and that Northwestern's victory against Stanford in the first game of the season was just a fluke. Deal with it, cry baby.

Bullshit. It's an abvious flame by an inveterate flamer. Every poll, including the playoff committee poll, the coaches poll, and the AP poll has ND ahead of Northwestern. Sagarin has ND ahead of Northwestern. No one has Northwestern in front of ND. But you, a professed ND hater, start this thread on this ND board. And you claim not to be flaming.
In addition to being a d-bag, a jagoff, and a hypocrite, you are also a liar.

The logic is the problem, football is a game of matchups.

You cannot just say 'we beat them and they lost to them therefore we are better than them'. It is not that 'simple'.

That is why the committee will always be open to question. Solution? an 8 team tourney!

A more curious question is how is Northwestern ranked ahead of Michigan when you couldn't even score a single point on them and we curb stomped them last year 31-0 ?
We have a better record and Michigan has more or less fallen apart after the Michigan state debacle. They beat Minnesota by a yard and poor clock management by a 1st game head coach in Tracy Clays and need double overtime to beat Indiana. I'm not sure you can compare Michigan last year to this year. They have a new QB who's pretty good and an actual coach.

Couple of thoughts. The Stanford team of week#1 was not the Stanford ream of Week #12. Watched both games. Identical records do not necessarily mean identical results. ND's two losses were by a total of 4 points -to the #1 and #9 ranked teams. NU's 2 losses were blowouts by a total of 68 points. I'm sure that's why the 2 teams are ranked where they are ranked but you knew all of this already didn't you ,Skakes? I do congratulate you on a fine season.

This is a very valid point. Football is definitely a game of matchups. The committee may want to re-write their rules to reflect that.

Margin of victory/loss is not supposed to come into play. It would make sense if it did, but it's not supposed to. That way you don't get penalized for playing good teams and winning close or losing big or playing a scrub and winning huge.

Thanks for the congratulations. You guys are have a fine season too. Great job!!!

Can't do that either. However, if Stanford wins the PAC 12 Championship, they're in the New Years 6 so that doesn't matter as much. It's Notre Dame, Baylor, Florida State that I think we should be above.
