Honestly, what’s the point? After so many years, why keep caring? Just devastated year after year.

So sick of it. ND was the better team and just shit the bed again. I give up on ever seeing an ND championship. It’s just so old and I honestly don’t want to care anymore.
If you didn't care then you wouldn't be on this board. These are the diehards including myself. Gotta run the table. The better team lost.

Doesn’t matter playoff is out! ND plays 12, teams in conferences play 13.

This snowballs, watch out for Duke.

I'm 57 and been rooting for ND all my life. At least I have memories of greatness through the 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s...although it's been down since Holtz. For me, ND always will be THE TEAM in college football, so anything shorts of NCs is disappointing.

But I'll keep coming back. This game was still fun, competitive, and the Irish should have won but for some bad play calls in key moments. The Irish players matched those of OSU, an elite team, which I haven't seen since Holtz.

Freeman is in year 2. So far he seems to be learning fast and making progress. This in a new world of NIL and transfers challenging even Alabama and most SEC teams.

I was so pessimistic last season in all this context. But I just might be wrong. Maybe there is an opportunity for ND as talent disperses, with ND procuring enough of it. I'm hoping Freeman will be a center of gravity in this.

Stick around. Don't give up man. I won't.

I am with you buddy. I say the same thing every year and nothing changes. This is actually a microcosm of my life. I put too much energy into people that continue to disappoint me. The Clemson loss in 2018
Briefly got me to remove my emotions from this team, but I got sucked back in during the 2020 season. Damn COVID.

This one hit different. It was like we tried to lose. I have wasted a lot of my life watching this team. I’ve skipped important family events and missed other important things. It’s best for my quality of life and future to stope following so intensely. I’m officially a casual fan and won’t be back on here. Life’s too short for this shit. Good life to y’all lads it’s been fun over the years.

You guys are soft.

ND a Top 10 team, and maybe Top 5 by the end of the year. Freeman is our guy. We’re ascending.

Soft girls like you….aren’t “built for it”. Go cry yourselves to sleep tonight.

We’re gonna beat Dukes ass.
Oh boy, you could be in for a surprise. If you’ve watched Duke and this team for the last 20 years, you’d know a road game after an emotional game like this is anything but a lock.

I trust this team. OSU is loaded, and we just physically pounded the hell out of them. We’ll do it to Duke x 100

I definitely don't change my life for ND. I'll be a loyal fan, but am not spending much money nor sacrificing other social and sports events. ND has to get better for that...the verdict is still to on that this season.

Fingers crossed.

ND was the better team. Missed FG first half. No bueno. RUN the ball 3X at the end. Passed on 2nd down and stopped the clock. WTF! See what happens but I think Michigan beats Ohio St.

This is likely a positive wake up for some of us. I spend more time reading and listening to ND stuff than I do working out, reading books, and a million other productive things that would improve my life. I go hard at things I enjoy but it’s weird to be so into something I have no control over. It’s madness. I love ND and always will due to my family attending the school, but I think this shook me out of a funk I’ve been in since the Weis era. Too much of life wasted on this. Following every recruitment, podcast, etc. Time is scarce. A second wasted on this crap and it’s emotions is a second taken from family. Just need to vent. I probably won’t be back unless just in moderation. Some of you will be happy about that 🤣

So many opportunities lost !

Brown missed interception

McCord getting out of the grasp on the 23 YL

3 man rush on 3rd and 19

I‘m of the opinion that they may run the table with USC being a major obstacle

No...we've just been waiting for ND to win a top game for nearly 30 years.

I see osu losing two games, mich and psu. This is not the typical osu team. Nd is clearly the better football team but fell flat again on the big stage. You can’t leave points on the field and call stupid plays late to hand the ball back to them. Case closed.

Nd… well… I see them getting smoked by usc, as usual, and probably dripping the Clemson game too. They’re just incapable of beating the elite teams.

That’s nonsense, they could have won tonight if the coaches had just managed the clock properly

If the coaches had any intelligence we win

Kelly and a sprinkle of freeman assembled a championship caliber team for this year… freeman will game day coach it worse than anyone possibly ever… we were so much better than them

Doesn’t coach tackling, no clue on short yardage, no clue on big situations with D, no clue that you can play 11… insane

It was certainly a painful loss !

And the shame is that it was so winnable !

The Irish beat Duke and USC the team will be in good shape. Clemson might be close. tOSU has to beat both P.State and Michigan to get to the finals. Unlikely. Hang in there.

What we saw tonight was the DOWNSIDE of a second year coach. Freeman recruits hard, players relate to him, and he's a kind of poster boy for what the school wishes to PROJECT.

But his experience is limited, and he appears about average -- if that -- as a game day coach. I also don't get the sense that he's any kind of wunderkind X's and O's guy. Not saying he doesn't know the game, but if there's any BRILLIANCE to him I haven't DETECTED it.

Right now, Freeman's winning percentage is at the MEDIAN POINT between Brennan's and Kelly's which is where I sort of have him in my MIND'S EYE as well.

I think ND can win its share of games under him, but I also believe there will be a FAIR SHARE of TOUGH LOSSES, something that bedeviled guys like Brennan, Faust, Davie and Weis. Kelly, too, in the early going.

My take on the loss:

OSU was still the better team in that you don't necessarily have to be the better team EVERY MINUTE to win the game. You just have to be BETTER AT CRITICAL JUNCTURES. That OSU was able to achieve that was due, I believe, to their greater CHUNK/SHOCK play capability, relying on their somehwat better athletes.

And, frankly, they are a very TOUGH and TALENTED BUNCH, playing for a coach who is now what -- 49 and 6?

As it was, they won the game down the stretch like a gutty thoroughbred THAT'S BEEN THERE AND DONE IT BEFORE. If ND were the better team -- and that includes coaches -- it would have been able to stop OSU. It couldn't.

So, who's the better team?

The one that wins in crunch time which as one of the announcers mentioned is in the final FOUR MINUTES when according to that announcer, MOST GAMES ARE DECIDED, given what's occurred up to that point.

Can ND go THE FINAL YARD in its current 15 year or so REVAMPING? I still have serious doubts.

Can it win 10 or 11 games this year? Maybe. 12? That would seem harder. Only 9? That, too, is a possibilty.

THE CHARACTER TESTS START RIGHT NOW.

Freeman is young and inexperienced enough with enough of a body of work suggesting a lot of upside. Across the board: Xs and Os, game plan, play calling, complementing what so far seems like better recruiting and motivating charisma that matters to young athletes. No doubt yesterday was lost in a few moments ind details, against an extremely good opponent in big game.

I dare say Notre Dame lost this one more than Ohio State won it. As I posted earlier, even my weak armchair coaching on that last ND drive would have called better. Sticking with a late jelling OL and run game to eat clock. Absolutely asking Harman for temperance, for conservatism.

Yes, that last Buckeye drive ND athletes, but, coaches as well lost it. ND might have more rushers on 3rd and 19. I wince how that pass was even got there amid 4 defenders. Then 10 men?

Again, a few moments and details. It is telling progress that ND forced this kind of game instead of handing it over. CBK didn't do this in so. many similar situations. Freeman suffered this legacy last year, but is so far convincing me it's turning around. This is statistical.

My eye says better players are becoming more evenly distributed. Yet ND seems to retain a good and actually improving recruiting base. The Freeman factor capitalizing, with select transfers like Hartman, ironically with NIL and this transfer portal.

I was pessimistic last year. I'm guarded. There is so much to prove. But I left yesterday optimistic...in spite of being devastated as a fan that ND lost...but really feel ND was better, that ND would win in a 3 or 5 match series. Reason to hope, against lower predictive odds given how Freeman is classified.

ND out played them most of the game, and if our safety, who was in perfect coverage, catches an easy pick it's game over and your post would be a little different

That is 1 of a few key moments. Ohio State had some as well. What if they didn't run laterally on their last 4th and 1 but up the gut?

This game in particular came down to moments. On balance, as I discussed, ND had more opportunities and lost due to less than optimal calls overall.

That wasn’t such an easy pick, but it would have been a great ending

Amen. Once you stop caring like the majority of fans, you sleep better at night.

I don’t think you ever give up on them. You also have to give coach 3 years. UGA looked like crap the first year with Kirby. Year 2 better but concerns. Year 3 he dominates.

I’d give them the 3 and let’s see.
