The biggest thing I miss from Lou Holtz was his enthusiasm. His arrogance with class.
The sheer fact he could get the most out of a player. He was able to push the right buttons on players and made them believe.
His teams always believed damn right we belong on this stage and in this game. They backed it up as well. He had a way to get the team to over achieve at times when material was lacking. When he had the players they in fact won those big games. They weren't afraid of the grand stage. Something it appears to me to date this team is really lacking. That healthy arrogance.

Moreover he had a 6 year run that would rival anyone's in the history of CFB. If the playoff system would have been in place then he might have made the final four 5 of those 6 years. Once in those games who knows what happens because we all know Lou and the big game.

I wanted to add he might be the best have to win one game coach I've ever seen.

I wish we could get back to that type of elite level that we had from 88-93

One great coach , recruiter , and motivator ! " and save jimmy johnsons' ass for me " .

.

While I liked Holtz overall as a coach, I never thought his arrogance was accompanied with class.

Comparing him to a then pristine Paterno, Osbourne...that could be true somewhat.

Comparing him to Jimmy Johnson he was the class teacher.

Was and still is the biggest supporter of Our Lady and her traditions! "But I think ND will play very well today"! My favorite Lou Holtz pre game comment after 20 reasons why we shouldn't win? Never did I think we couldn't win when he was leading the fighting Irish through that tunnel?

Well said. No matter the opponent I always felt confident.

He throat punched Zero for Bo and killed his chances for any NC's - what a legend.

unfortunately, my most recallable and vivid memory of Holtz is the intro presser for the Jets HC job.
A fish out of water; the fight song was so so....

Only HOF coach ever to be tagged by the NCAA at three schools. Doubt that record will ever be matched.
