ESPN has released its latest article with an installment of their College Football Future Power Rankings which measures how well each team is set up for sustained success for the next three seasons. The main factors to determine the rankings were based on current roster, recruiting, the quarterback situation, coaching, team's path to a conference championship and the eventual College Football Playoff.

The Top 25 teams in the future rankings were (in order): Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, USC, Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, Washington, Stanford, Penn State, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Florida, Texas, Virginia Tech, TCU, Louisville, Oregon, Utah, Texas A&M, and Tennessee.

Is Notre Dame even relevant anymore?

Coach Kelly's going to have to prove he's a relevant coach in order for Notre Dame to become relevant
He'll have another season to prove this

I'll be upfront, I am a Clemson fan and looking forward a to revived rivalry with ND. I was at the last Clemson-ND game and it was a classic. In fact, the last 3 games between the 2 teams were classics.

Disappointed that ND is not even considered relevant anymore....

Same as always...

Everybody (especially the haters) discusses ND daily. Can't be more relavent than that.
On the list above do you think anybody gets in heated arguments over half those teams, let alone national heated arguments?
Heck, listen to Finebaum & the only non-SEC, non-southern team anybody calls in (to complain about) is ND.
Anytime I travel & watch football at a sports bar everyone leaves their game to come watch (root against usually) ND.

ND becomes more relavent every day that someone questions it.

No, I don't obsess about ND daily. I just saw these ESPN rankings and was surprised to not see ND mentioned as one of the top programs.

I have a son who just graduated from Clemson, so I have become a diehard Clemson fan and think Dabo is a great coach. My God son went to ND, so I have an affiliation with them, as well.

I'll be at the next Clemson-ND matchup in South Bend and hope this matchup becomes a great ACC/National rivalry, just like Clemsonn-Fla. State.

If ND was in the ACC East, they would be 4TH best team behind...

1) Clemson
2) Fla State
3) Louisville
4) Domers (maybe)

They'd probably put us in the Coastal Division, with our old rivals Miami and Pitt. Especially with the Atlantic already having the top three teams currently.

Did you go to any of the other teams websites that are not in the top 25? I would say ND is still relevant if you make up a handle and come here and post 5 times and create a thread. But what do I know?

The fact that you come to the ND board says it all.

No! Notre Dame is no longer relevant. The fact that you are on a Notre Dame message board asking if in fact, is Notre Dame even relevant, proves without ant doubt they are not. Thank you for question.

With a son out of college, aren't you a little old for this trolling nonsense? Aren't you the one that started a thread about the ND football facilities needing upgrading to be in the top tier about a month back?

Just like all preseason ratings and conjectures this list and five bucks will buy you a value meal.

ND home games on ESPN? 0
Why would ESPN promote ND football by ranking them?
Kelly as a coach is damaged and may not make it through this season is also a reason.

I don't believe allteamball is an instigator unless he has posted stuff in the past that was inappropriate.

From Ara Parseghian to Lou Holtz there was always an expectation.

From Davie to Kelly there have been more disappointment than positives.
Coach Kelly has clearly been the best coach since Holtz, but has not done enough to elivate the program to that expectation.

Maybe the 85 scholarship ruling is a factor?
IDK
I can't wait for the season to start. I'm excited to see how the new quarterbacks workout and how the defense is going to perform under a new DC

Go Irish

The second thread in a month about ND being irreverent.

Deny, deny, deny... Truth be told this is today's reality. The foolishness of the AD and short sightedness of the administration has lead to the situation. (You know, every time there is a problem you can't keep building another building or facility and think you addressed or cured the problem. FYI: the school is running out of space and reasons for another building) The last hope is for the BOT to finally step in and stop this before 80 years of building a brand and reputation on the backs of others in college sports and college football is completely destroyed. Hope the people who are responsible for the degradation of this mess get the recognition they clearly deserve. What a great shame.

Allteamball - "If ND was in the ACC they would be 4th maybe" - They aren't in the ACC for football because they are independent because they can be. They are a national program. Clemson, on the other hand, is a program that splits the state of South Carolina. Thus they must be in a conference. The Irish will be just fine. I've never visited a Clemson board. My guess is they have one. Thank you for talking about the Irish.

I've got a sweet Benz in my driveway and a monogrammed smoking jacket (with a "$" for the "S") that says we're plenty relevant.

Thanks,
- Jack $.

If you think ND is relevant, then we are. If you think we aren't, then we are not. It's up to the person to decide.

Do you know what the most expensive ticket in college football is right now for this upcoming season? Bama v FSU? No. Ohio State v Oklahoma? No. It's old irrelevant ND v Georgia. We need a lot more than one 4-8 season to become irrelevant, regardless of what some magazine article says.

Depends on how you define irrelevant. If limited to annually competing for the NC, or a top five ranking at season's end, then ND is irrelevant. If you define this in terms of national fan base, TV viewership, desire by opposing schools to have ND on their schedule, number of big games every season, in the hunt for a top ten finish on a regular basis, national buzz when they are in the playoff hunt, etc... then they are clearly still very relevant. Of course, the desire of ND fans is for ND to be relevant under both definitions.

A bunch of the teams on that list have had recent seasons as bad as our 2016 season was, and have been as bad, or worse, overall in recent years. Texas? Penn State? Tennessee? These lists like this one are just one guy's opinion, and it's widely known that America loves its lists.

One season removed from 10 wins. Oh the drama.....

OK, so how much are those ND-Ga. tickets? Just curious

well, maybe it's UGA that is the attraction? If that game's ticket price is going up and other games are going down??

Not other ND games, other teams' games are going down.

And according to SeatGeek (who pools all the secondary markets) the tickets are being bought up by fans nationally (not from Georgia addresses).
So it seems a lot of people nationally want to attend.
You can look at it from a negative perspective, a positive perspective, or from the neutral perspective, which is that ND still brings in the fans & money even off a 4-8 season as numerous articles have indicated?

It is what it is. And that is ND still has a brand that brings it.

It's because we haven't played Georgia in a long time - since the 1981 Sugar Bowl, which was the only time we've ever played them. So it's a big deal for Georgia fans and ND fans.

I just watched that game a couple weeks ago

ESPN is still punishing ND for their NBC contract. We'll be baaaaaack.

Considering that ESPN has done a number of Notre Dame-related things and has included Notre Dame in past rankings, I'm not sure why this is would be correct.

Yet according to CoachingSearch.com earlier this week, a ducat for the Notre Dame-Georgia showdown is currently No. 1 on the most demanded college football ticket. According to the website, here are the top 5 based on using the cheapest ticket currently available on StubHub:

1. Georgia at Notre Dame (Sept. 9) — $499

2. Alabama vs. Florida State in Atlanta (Sept. 2) — $422

The winner puts itself in the pole position for the national title — and a rematch could occur in the Playoff.

3. Oklahoma at Ohio State (Sept. 9) — $347

I linked the article above.

Two tickets have come up for $450 today! Woo Hoo! But on the flip side the preferred tickets are now coming up for $2K, which is twice as much as the FSU/Bama preferred tickets.

Dude, talking is something most people don't care about. It's about on the dang field and ND is nothing on the field. ND is always talk and hype. It doesn't make the team relevant. What are you watching?
