Great article on ND remaining Independent

Extra points for proper use of the plural of stadium!
Ty.

Have you ever met an exterminator who is a woman?
I’m not assuming to know what the landscape will look like.

I agree with you when it comes to an away game for ND. Of course those TV networks want our draw. But we’d need home and homes scheduled.

If the mega conferences go to 10 game conference schedules, this is where things get difficult. Why would Michigan for example, schedule a home and home with ND when they could have their 2 out of conference games at home vs a lesser opponent? Their TV networks would also get both games, rather than give one to ND as well.

Again, if we figure this out, awesome! Just a worry of mine.
Even in your example, NBC now has a piece of the BUG broadcasting rights, so they would get both.

NBC gets one Big 10 game a week. Small chance they’d get both; odds are we’d be on FOX for the away game.

Also, again, why would Michigan do the home & home rather than schedule two home games? Just play an extra tough game while the rest of the conference has cupcakes?

This doesn’t even take into account if the Big 10/SEC do a home and home with each other which will eat schedule space.

I definitely do not believe ND will join a conference because of a few extra dollars.

As the landscape of college sports changes, ND will be forced to join a conference.

There will be 2 conferences with divisions within each. ND will have to chose which division is best for them,

It is simply delusional to believe that all of these conference changes will not in some way impact ND.

Within 3 seasons ND will be a member of a conference. Not by choice but simply because “the times they are a changing”.

As much as I have the same feelings about ND being forced to join i hope they resist

I agree man. I would definitely prefer an independent ND. My Grandpa will be rolling over in his grave when that independence is taken away.
I just heard on ESPN radio that the ACC has formally asked Stanford, SMU, and Cal-Berkeley to join the conference.

in a similiar vein, there were "reports" last night that stanford reached out to the Bigten, said they would merge with the Borg for a $16 million share...

Well, that wasn't mentioned in what I heard. The ACC, according to ESPN radio, is courting Stanford, SMU, and Cal-Berkeley..

$16 million??? If true, that is a slap in the face. I know Oregon and Washington are not getting a full share, but not sure how much.

Why wouldn't they get a full share?
Oregon and Washington start at 30 million, receive raises annually, then will get a full share in 2030, and will be considered a full time member in 2030 when the next deal arrives.

Why wouldn't they get a full share?

Because the schools in the Big Ten when the latest TV deal was signed are counting on a large payout. Oregon and Washington are essentially buying their ways into the conference. In six years when a new deal is inked, they will receive full portions.

if the stanford rumor has legs, they could always dip into their substantial endowment until they start getting a full share, presumably with the next contract..insulting, but rutgers is happy that they went that route..all about getting your foot in the door...

What’s crazy is no one is talking about how all this “realignment” will effect bball and other sports.

lol, Rutgers happy? Their athletic departments debt has ballooned since joining the BUG.

Are you the ND fan in NJ type that graduated from the school of NBC ND Channel 4 university, grew up in Bergen County thinking everything out of state was better than in state or you’re just a transplant from the Midwest living in Hoboken who knows their best path in life is to seek the opportunities that the tri-state area provides?

Rutgers at least has a path forward to balance the books. Area rivals like UConn won't be able to support as many sports.

Of course, if Rutgers is unhappy, they can always opt to join the Huskies as another Northeastern thriving independent.

They have no path forward if they continue to mismanage their financials. The athletic department is very happy, but the taxpayers and students, the ones ultimately paying this debt are not.
