8 is my preference, with the five P5 champs and three at-large. I think that system could go on for a very long time.

I don't think anything will change until O'Bannon is settled. The university presidents don't want to kill their golden goose.

NO. Four is the perfect number because it preserves the regular season. With eight, you open the door to the P5 heavyweights with 2-3 losses getting hot in the playoffs and winning the title.

But the 8 team playoff helps ND with its' maverick status as an independent power to get into a CFP

No - 4 is enough - too many games for these kids now. Maybe they should go back to 11 games total during the season including the conf championships.

I like eight, but I see no reason to guarentee conference champs an automatic bid.
Well be assured that's the way it will be. One of the main arguments for going to eight is so all power 5 conference winners (5) will be included and none will be left out.

We should be watching the first 4 games of an 8 team playoff this weekend. Instead we get garbage until New Years Eve.

I think I would like to see. 6 teams.
I do not want the regular season diminished but the more teams that gets in does three things.
1) power 5 conferences can't complain
2) ND won't be on the outside looking in. This year we would have had a tough time jumping any of the teams with a win over Stanford.
We all would have been crushed sitting at #5.
3) Probably keeps independence for ND forever.
It's definitely advantageous for ND to have more teams involved.

Yes. 8 about right. Don't understand the dilution of the regular season argument. This year top 8 would have included NDame and Ohio State. No 3 loss teams there. And pretty clear separation from No. 9 Fla. State. Like most years. Only possible problem would be a conference championship upset (e.g. USC over Stanford) but that would be rare in my opinion.

Moot discussion. It will be 8. It should be 8. You can bet your life it will be 8.
