Do you really even care about a bowl game now?

If I'm a 19-20 year old student-athlete playing at ND, then hell yes I'm looking forward to a bowl!!!! I don't care what it's called or what the sponsors are. I'm in a new situation and get to travel, practice with my buddies for another month, get a chance to take aggression out on some B12, SEC, or Pack 12 team, hopefully catch the eye of some NFL scouts, get a ridiculous gift "basket" from the bowl sponsors, and get to be on TV again.

Of course it does. Extra practices, a good team coming back next year. Don’t know how much Wimbush can progress, but if he does, you have an elite offense creator who was actually very effective with his legs alone this season.

Of course I want to see my alma mater in a bowl game,

Pinstripe looks nice right now. Go to NYC, possibly play Purdue, bring home a nice check, get that 10th win, and the extra practice sessions. It's not Army but not bad. Times have changed folks from the 1960's.If you can't play in the Playoffs then play an easy opponent and secure that next win. A win sets you up for the next season and shoots a little enthusiasm into the program.

Well the mindbending propaganda certainly was successful in altering your expectations and visions.

AP has ND at 15.

It looks like an NY6 bowl is not in the cards. ND really needed that opportunity.

I didn't care after the Miami loss.. NY6 bowl might mean something to recruits but after the playoffs were out of reach- who cares?

I can take a loss (Lord knows we’re all used to it by now) but not when our guys don’t seem (I could be wrong all I have to go on is what I saw on tv) to have any passion. I didn’t see any “nasty” out of our oline. I didn’t see any passion from our db’s nor did I see our offensive skill players fight. Adams didn’t (or couldn’t) break any tackles nor did he show any vision. Not one of the Captains said “enough is enough.” And doing it on the sideline isn’t enough. Get mad, damn it.

Is there any chance ND can get a NY6 birth?

If Alabama is not in the playoff, then they would be a great opponent.
We could get answers to ‘how soft was their schedule’ and how tough was ND’s SOS.
And Kelly would be given a chance to get revenge for 2012, get a W over a high ranked opponent, while playing ‘On the Road’

They’d make our players quit after 12 mins. Our team is done with this season. They gave up 21 points to a team full of non NFL players. Imagine what a team full of NFL players would do to them?

I’m sorry but the Irish players quit last night. Zero push from the oline, our supposed best unit and zero urgency from our Receivers.

I don’t wanna watch a 27-24 “play down to your opponent” bowl game. I won’t be watching and I assume many others feel the same. I don’t blame Kelly, he actually wanted it lastnight.

And get beaten by three TD’s.

After tonight's debacle, does a bowl game even interest you? If they play anyone decent, its going to be a loss anyway. And please stop with the nonsense that the couple extra weeks of practice can help and carry over to next season. I think its best to just bring another disappointing season to an end.
football always interests me.

Excellent post, Ara. Spot on.

Skipping a bowl would be stupid and short-sighted.

A big bowl win over Purdue would truly propell ND’s football program and be a boost to recruiting,
And a loss would just be “it was just meaningless”.
This may actually have been the plan.

It gets I believe another 15 practices in so maybe Wimbush can begin to throw the ball more consistently.

This would be really stupid thing to do.. you get many days of extra practice time and work out any kinks that could benefit you in the last game and prepare you for next season...
Its hard to say but I don't think the extra two weeks practice mean a whole lot

2pm pacific time on a Thurs that is not a holiday. I bet Judge Judy gets higher ratings. At least no one will see ND lose. Hopefully wont hurt already damaged recruiting. At least players get goody basket from Camping World. LOL.

Why worry? You won't be watching anyway. Or will you? Bet you do.

“to me”, That may be acceptable in any given year, but in 8 years? Recruits are aware of the success of teams. They know the prestigious bowls. Aside from conference considerations, when the season starts teams target the playoffs, then the NY6 and then the lesser assigned bowl slots. Recruits know the pecking order, and they want the big stage.

again what bowl is considered prestigious now that the playoff is in place ? is any team shooting for a non playoff bowl game ? i believe the playoff has rendered the rest of them pretty meaningless and thats fine. an extra game is good for any program but they don't carry the weight they used to. no way they can now.
