Congrats on LAX natty

Interesting discussion. I think as time goes on, we are going to see more and more kids playing soccer and lacrosse; conversely, fewer kids are going to play football. The extent of brain injuries which result in playing football are going to cause fewer parents to allow their kids to play.
"The extent of brain injuries which result in playing football are going to cause fewer parents to allow their kids to play."

You would be amazed at the amount of kids that get concussions playing soccer -- and I would bet LAX is not far behind either. But, you do have a point of brain injuries and football.

Its catching on in the west ... thanks to ND and Denver, coaches Corrigan and Tierney had a number of ND - Denver games played in areas where Lacrosse doesn't exist ... and the game is catching on now.

Schools like Utah, Stanford, ... now have LAX teams (mostly women now though).
I just looked up all 76 D1 men's lacrosse teams. Only two are west of the Mississippi - Denver and Utah. And the majority are in the Northeast. So it's still largely an Eastern sport, although it's growing.

Thank you for the facts.

30 countries had teams in the Women's World Lacrosse Championship for 2022. The US won the last cup in 2017.

There are also 30 countries involved in the men's world lacrosse championship this year in San Diego.

A few quick google searches revealed that youth participation in lacrosse is growing by 10+% per year … football participation has declined every year since 2015. This aligns with my own experiences as a parent of multiple kids and their friends. Almost no one makes the NFL and those that do last an average of 3 years. I wonder where you get your ideas from?

It seems people would rather watch football and play lacrosse. Will lacrosse ever pass football as a spectator sport? Probably not anytime soon. Baseball, yeah I could see it happening.
In the summer, MLB is an every day sport. Unlike basketball, lacrosse, hockey, etc where the limit is probably 3 games a week, if not less.

As long as the NFL is printing $$$$$$$$$ and NFL players are paid really really well, football players will take the risk to earn a big paycheck.

"Follow the money."
There’s a significant time gap that you‘re ignoring.

The time between the time a kid starts playing football and the time a kid realistically feels that he could play in the NFL.

8 year olds aren’t thinking about the NFL and money when they start playing pee wee football and neither are their parents.

But more and more parents are having second thoughts about allowing their kids to play contact football, myself included.

My youngest played football until he was a freshman in high school.
That’s when I told him that he had played his last tackle football game.

He then became a LAX goalie, which didn’t thrill me, but I felt that it was a better alternative.

The first week of football practice three of his friends suffered concussions, causing my son to tell me that he was glad that he transitioned to LAX.

More and more parents are reaching the same conclusio.

LAX is a regional sport. Plain and simple. Where I live, it's a sport for C level athletes. Same in the South and Southwest.

"Friday Night Lights..." will never change in Texas. Football is king and always will be.

I think you’ll find that LAX will continue to grow and that football will continue to shrink, even in Texas.

Brain injuries that last a lifetime aren’t worth the fleeting glory earned in high school

They don't build and fill big HS Stadiums in Texas to watch lacrosse.

Well, you could just replace lacrosse with soccer, volleyball, etc. for the West and the same principle would apply. There are a lot of parents out there discouraging their kids from football.

I just left a weight room with around 100 HS football players hitting the weights hard. News of football and its demise are not heard by all. No sport on our campus comes close to football for popularity and fan support

Those stadiums were built before anyone understood the permanent damage caused by head injuries.

As much as I love football I realize and recognize that the damage caused by violent collisions is difficult to justify and that more and more parents are coming to that conclusion

i didn’t say “demise”, I said “decline”

While what you say is true today, I think intelligent parents will change the landscape over the next two decades
