Congrats Irish!

I am astonished. But this was a crushing victory. Built on a power running game, withstanding a limited passing attack. Strong defense and special teams as well.

If only ND had a QB.

I've concluded by now that Freeman and Rees took this long to figure out their own team. And to assume the mantle from CBK. I like what I am seeing...and have higher hopes now, that Freeman can defy the odds and become a very good coach...maybe a legend.

I can dream again.

I think ND will be able to impose a power game, controlling the clock, and scoring consistently. With decent red zone performance due to a strong OL and weaker USC defense.

It will come down to how the ND defense does against a high powered USC offense. I could be wrong, but I think ND defense won't be out there as much and will stop USC enough times. I think USC will pass better than they run against ND.

Just guessing.

USC's run defense is only around 54th best (through 8 games). That should give ND a chance.

Anyone who thinks they can confidently predict the outcome of the sc game has not watched the series closely. We have a shot if our corners play like they did last night. No one would have said that prior to last nights game, but you never know what will happen when nd plays sc

No chance. It's going to be a tough game because of your QB.

Switch QBs and we win by 3 tds
Caleb is one of the best I have seen. He is going to get his points hut if a team uses breakdown pressure, he can be limited a bit. You can't stay back, and it is a huge mistake to try all out pressure. You have to use contained pressure, go hard through the line and them breakdown when approaching him. He may be the best there ever was at reacting to full on pressure.

The reason I have never backed down on my belief that you would win (even after your rocky start) is that you are built to beat us. A great O-line against by far our greatest weaknesses; the D-line and linebackers. You can four-six yard us to death. Caleb, Addison and Dye hardly ever score when they are on the sideline.

This is not a shot at all, but you have a better chance of beating us than other teams that might be better.

We have struggled with dual threats since forever. I think we win for the reasons you mentioned but he will make this a tough game

Agree with you. But it really depends on whether which ND shows up. The team that could not run against an undermanned Stanford or the team that ran it down an NFL caliber Clemson defensive line?

Generally, you have to like a team that can run at will and stop the run. Its just impossible to ignore the discrepancy in talent at the most important single position on the field

Golson and grace:

You are both right on your points, but IMO the points I raised may have more impact. There is no doubt however that SC could win if ND doesn't play up to its potential. Seems like the trouble three has been taking weak teams for granted rather than playing poorly against strong teams.

Back to Golson's point. The path is to make Caleb a passing only QB. Its hard to do because he is still great and it hard to figure out that you are saving points.

Anyway, I hope I am wrong.

Them playing UCLA the week before helps tremendously

If USC beats UCLA, the Trojans will likely still be alive for a playoff spot.

If USC loses to UCLA, beating ND will be their one shot at redemption.

At least, that is how the Trojan coaches will sell matters.

But..... that is an emotional game. And it will be physical.

I want USC to win but the bruins are extremely balanced. USC reminds me of UNC they have to score points to win. Look for a lot of points to be scored and take the over

USC likes to spread you out and hit you where you ain't. "Physical" doesn't always beat speed and athleticism.

If physical was always superior, we would be favored over the Buckeyes in three weeks.

Have you watched 5 minutes of anyone in the PAC 12 not named SC?
