Clemson Fan Perspective

I always like getting the opposing teams perspective about upcoming games, so here is mine.

First I feel confident about this game. I think it's the most favorable match up we could have gotten. Not saying that OU>ND by any means, I just didn't want any part of OU passing attack. I think that'd be a bad match up for us.

I'll admit I didn't watch a ton of your games during the season but I have been watching the condensed games on youtube the last week or so.

Keys to Clemson winning:

-Create pressure with only the front 4. We typically do a good job of this, but we didn't vs SC had to start bringing help which left us exposed on the backend which they took great advantage of.

-Stop the rush- During our run the last few seasons we've do a great job of always being able to take away the run. I expect this to continue in our game simply because our interior d linemen are top notch

-Safety Play has to be better- these guy are great in run support, but can look completely lost in coverage at times. Especially on double moves. The pressure isn't always going to get there, and they will have to make a couple plays

-Run the ball (with our best player)- I was frustrated several times this season by our coaches subbing ETN out so frequently. I'm hoping it was all part of the master plan and he gets 20+ touches this game. The guy averaged over 8 ypc but there were games he'd get less than 10 touches!!

-Keep TL upright- for being a true freshman the kid has been incredible. The thing that scares me about him is it's been pretty easy. We haven't seen him play under real pressure (game on the line situation). Does he have that "it" factor Deshaun Watson had?? No one knows.

I think yalls best chance is to incorporate some hurry up. Venables isn't a huge fan or it. He likes to line up and make adjustments. SC hit us with a ton of HUNH. They were able to get into a lot of favorable match ups that we couldn't make adjustments to pre-snap and they took advantage.

At the end of the day I think this is a 4th quarter game, but our athleticism and team speed end up being too much. Our first round DL all came back for one reason, to win another NC. I think there's much more pressure on ND, to try and rewrite the narrative from 2012 and finally get back over the hump.

Initial score prediction 31-21 tigers after a late TD to salt it away.

hard to disagree. the same formula can easily be what ND needs to do to be successful. i have also said i thought the game would be decided in the 4th quarter with Clemson winning 31-24. i don't expect a blowout either way. ND is certainly capable of winning. as always the turnover battle will be a huge factor. Can't wait.

Fair enough assessment. We all hope the teams play well and stay healthy

That said, my biggest concern is our lay-off. We have at least one more week idle than the other 3 teams. If we come out sharp I like our chances a lot.

I’ll take the score u predicted but in ND favor. I see us jumping out to a lead and you closing hard

I believe both teams are better than Oklahoma and are capable of beating Bama

Game will be decided on the LOS

If we can't block Clemson's front enough to have a run game and have to throw 40 passes I can't see us winning.

Ditto for the Tigers

Hard to argue with the assessment. I feel ND has to be able to either run the ball some, or if pressure is too much with Clemsons front four, sub running with a healthy dose of screens to keep them honest. If Clemson makes ND one dimensional on offense, it may be over early.

ND on defense has to hurry and smack the QB around and disrupt routes. I feel that if they can make his life miserable where he doesn't always have those easy dump outs when he's rushed, we'll force him into mistakes.

Clemson is favored by 11.5 last time I looked - I think the pressure is on them, not on ND...

I think the opportunity is there for ND to attack Clemson's secondary - ND has huge receivers in Miles Boykin and Chase Claypool, TE Alize Mack, and a pesky little slot guy in Chris Finke who has a great chemistry with Ian Book... that said, I think Clemson will get home a couple of times and ruin a couple of drives with their pressure...

Book is great at reading defenses, has a very quick release, great pocket awareness, and quick feet when necessary... I don't think they can get to him consistently with just 4 - eventually they will have to bring a blitzer or two...

I'm more worried about Clemson's running game than I am the passing game - if they can't keep Etienne and Feaster in check at least somewhat, it could be a long day...

Clemson has not seen a secondary like ND all season, not even close. The slot is a concern, but the corners and safety play is better than everyone on the clemson schedule. The question is if the front of ND can generate hurries like they have all year. If ND can hurry the freshmen under jerrys lights i like our chances. Offensively its a tough day at the office, but kelly has always been able to manufacture points. Some people dont like his playcalling in spots but he and long will manufacture points somehow.

Thats funny I think Clemson is the best matchup for ND too. I was very happy! Glad we agree.
Clemson is who I wanted to play. That doesn't mean we will win, but I thought we had the best chance against them.

The Clemson athleticism didn’t show up against Cuse or Pitt (game 1).

Who was the best team Clemson beat?

I have said it and said it, ND will be the best team Clemson has played all season and I mean BY FAR!

This 2018 ND could careless about what happened to the 2012 ND team. There is zero pressure when you factor in something that happened 6 years ago. Heck some of these players were only in middle school then.

The biggest concern I have about this game is stopping the Clemson run game. Not giving up big run plays.

ND will be in trevors face all day.

I have ND scoring 4 TDS and two FGs (possibly one from defense or special teams)

Clemson scoring three TDS and and three FGs.

34-30

Irish win

Honestly more than anything else your defensive line against our offensive line scares me. You guys have a 2 deep of monsters and the Notre Dame offensive line has been the major weakness since Bars went out with injury and we lost our top 2 guys to the draft.

We need the the best performance out of Chip Long of the entire season to have a chance and Book needs to be great as well.

Run blocking weakness. Our OL is excellent at pass protection.
