1) Players need to rest. Get some sleep.

2) Work on their tackling technique when they return.

3) Relax. Play some video games. Watch a movie. Hang out.

4) Work on their tackling technique when they return.

5) Mentally get away from football.

6) Work on their tackling technique when they return.

Maybe they will go hard this week with tackling knowing they don't have a game. Really need to work on it.

Need to check your keyboard; seems to have become infested by a broken record.

So, there weren't any bad tackling yesterday or the previous games? And, you are saying the lads shouldn't take a break from football and rest and relax? Don't stir up a debate just to hear yourself talk. Tell me why I am mistaken. Tell me why the kids shouldn't rest, enjoy, then come back refresshed and practice their tackling technique.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jack's endless gloom and doom, but I didn't see anything wrong with this post. I was ready to punch a fridge over the missed tackles. The team looked pretty good tackling for the GT game too, which is I find these other games so frustrating.

I might have added study since midterms are coming up, but that's just nitpicking.

What's depressing about relaxing, watching a movie, getting some rest, and playing video games? Oh, and learning how to tackle?

IrishJack we may disagree on almost everything but I think your a cool guy. Adding that "Oh, and learning how to tackle" jab at the end of your post was CLASSIC !! It made me laugh. That was a good "burn".

I think it is more BVGs scheme then missed tackles that have been giving the Irish Defense problems. Most of the TD'S and big plays USC (and other teams like UMASS) got onthe iRISH Defense is when no Irish defenders were is in a area and the opponents exploit it. Just like that trick play yesterday that USC scored on. The tackling actually hasn'r been that bad for most of the Irish defenders. Jaylon Smith made some great open field tackles so did Isaac Rochelle on the dline. You can't tackle anyone if you are not in the right place or have the right angle.

And the Irish got a good pass rush on Kessler--they just have too many great athletes to shut down.

Practice tackling? And they practice tackling which they should know by now they could get shoulder or knee injuries and we can't afford to lose anymore players. That is why they had Cj and Dishone both wear red jerseys. I think it needs to be "simplify or learn the complex defensive scheme. BVG needs to get things right.

So the ball is in your court IrishJack, my friend, who was missing all the tackles and when ?

Obviously I'm not Jack, but Kelly specifically pointed to missed tackles in his post game. Rochelle had one that led to a huge play, and a couple of other of USC's big plays were off of missed tackles.

That said, I also think that BVG's scheme is not very forgiving of mistakes. Might be fine for the pro's, but college guys make mistakes.

Just a joke based on the repetition you wrote.

I will say this about the USC game: although the defense got gashed earlier on numerous plays, that last drive of USC's in the fourth quarter was a thing of beauty for the Irish D. I don't know if there were open receivers that Kessler was not seeing, but every time he dropped back, it looked like he had zero options for big plays. They had like 2 and a half minutes left and 2 timeouts and barely made it to mid field. It was awesome!
