Thanks, DIP. But no worries. I should have looked at Birks' posting history. Interesting that he only has 10 posts on this board, all of which were posted in the past hour. Also it's rather coincidental how similar his and Pazuzu's posts are, down to similar types of insults and maturity-level. As you know, it wouldn't be the first time someone on this board created another screen name just to have someone else agree with them. Lol.
Well in year 6 you would expect to beat navy. What are you expecting glowing reviews for beating navy? Even Bob Davie and Ty Willingham could beat navy. I was his big supporter when he was hired and still am to lesser degree but he certainly has performed below expectations so far.
He is averaging 9 wins a season which is an upgrade from what we had but still short of where we should be.
One 12-1 Season (Just 1 BCS type bowl) - got blown out by Bama
We had three 8-5 seasons
We had One 9-4 Season
He was 2-3 against really bad Michigan teams
2-3 against Stanford (average Stanford)
3-2 against average USC (not Pete Carroll Led USC) Both times we beat them they had backup QB playing.
So these numbers don't scream out that he has done great coaching job. But compare to previous two coaches he has done much better. I would say he is a good coach not a great coach so far. Bo Peilini @ Nebraska was also winning 9 games per season and he was let go (which was a mistake obviously).
ND should keep kelly until someone better is willing to take the job.

You say I'm obviously a liar and a coward. I'm giving you a golden opportunity to prove it. So put up or shut up. Then if you want to actually discuss why Kelly is a mediocre coach (at best), stop at my tailgater and let me know.
Good coaches don't follow up a loss with a team loaded with talent by coming home and giving up esy touchdowns to Navy.....at home....after a loss. Kelly's teams are notoriously fragile. They start slow, make lots of unforced errors, panic quickly and get outcoached on a regular basis. If Kelly didn't have a marked advantage in athletes, he would be a below .500 coach at Notre Dame. He is a terrible play caller and he panics.
Good coaches find a way to run inside effectively when they need to. Good coaches don't depend on a finesse offense to beat inferior athletes like Navy. They control the line of scrimmage and beat them down early with a running game. Good coaches don't field defenses that can't wrap up on a tackle. They don't have safeties and middle linebackers who run themselves into traffic every play and end up on their butts while the runner gashes them up the middle for huge yards.
Face it, we are not a well coached team. We are fragile and soft. Our athletes deserve better coaching, better playcalling. Kelly has better talent than Virginia and Navy, yet we needed a hail Mary to beat Virginia and a 52 yard field goal just to take a three point lead to the locker room at home against Navy after a key loss. Face facts, we are underperforming given our our talent level.

I like banter, too. And I'm all for agreeing to disagree. But when posters come on this board, start calling people "losers" right off the bat, tell others to "shut up," and lie by claiming to be 50 year old alums (when it's obvious they're not by the way they act), it's time for me to employ the ignore function. So nice not to have to be subjected to that nonsense.
Valid points here. Also, don't forget when Nebraska canned Frank Solich who also was a successful coach there. They wound up hiring Bill Callaghan who was an utter disaster. Hindsight is twenty-twenty but I'd guess most Nebraska fans in retrospect would consider firing Solich a mistake.

Pazuzu is just here to stir things up. Pazuzu was the demon that possessed the girl in the Exorcist. Pazuzu was also the demon king of storms in ancient mythology, and when he first started posting someone compared Pazuzu to Hoosierstorm. I don't know if there's any actual correlation to Hoosierstorm, but I do believe this guy is just trying to screw with us. His "apology" not long ago was just a manipulative post which many bought hook line and sinker, and I think its probably because he's feeding into anti-Kelly sentiment.
I don't have a problem with people being critical of Kelly, but I'm sure this guy really is just stirring the pot.
Ah, good to know. The Exorcist---I knew that name sounded familiar. Yes, I've been critical of Kelly, too. And I never said that he was above reproach. I was at the Clemson game, for instance, and was not happy going for two so early. My point is that if someone is going to call for him to be fired, he's obliged, in my view, to provide the name of a realistic alternative. That's how reality works. As for Birks/Pazuzu: He's on ignore, so I won't have to read his inanity.
I completely agree with the name a realistic replacement approach toward the discussion. Its a fair question.
And as far as going for two - After the Northwestern game last year I was ready to send Kelly a calculator. After the Clemson game, I'm thinking we need to send Kelly about a thousand of them. I just don't know how to organize that campaign.

So fire the coach because ND lost to Alabama, in the GD championship game. This board is full of arm chair no-it-alls, who really don't know s**t. Kelly is an elite coach, and we are damn glad to have him. You think we lost the Natty because of coaching? you think we lost to Clemson because of coaching ... you are delusional. Better still, send your resume to Jack and apply for the job.
No fire the coach because He's lost to South Florida, Tulsa, Navy, Purdue, etc etc. etc, Fire the coach because he can't hold a lead. Fire the coach because he loses an average of 4 games per season and he hasn't shown any improvement except for Manti Teo's senior year when he had Nix and Tuitt on the DL. But mostly fire him because he was so arrogant after losing to Navy and so hell ent on proving it was the players and not the coaches that he insisted on holding practice OUTSIDE in a gale warning when he had a multi million dollar practice facility. And we may have lost the "natty" that year no matter what, but if you'r boy hadn't spent his time interviewing with the Eagles, maybe he would have paid more attention to the job in front of him and we wouldn't have been EMBARASSED on "natty" Television, sporto.
This was the second week in a row the team was not prepared to play. Questionable play calling from the start during the first half and the defense schemes seemed out of sync. There is considerable talent on this team. Very impressive offensive players. Clemson has been the only quality team played so far - 8-4 always a possibility, but think unlikely. (Would enjoy watching what Holtz could have done with this offensive group) Think "average" pretty much describes the HC (didn't have my Kelly Kool-Aide today).
