Bowen to Oregon

I hope to God we‘re not recruiting his brother any longer. Don’t care how good he is

Freeman got played even worse than I thought.

Don’t blame freeman but man what a loser bowen is with the hat fake too
The fake hat move was disgusting. Looking at his mother, she started to clap when he picked up the ND hat, and seemed to put her face into her hands when he changed hats. Staying committed and then the fake hat move makes me really disgusted with this young man. Phil Knight and Nike will be hard to beat in this new NIL world. But then, look at this class, and we have some studs that can be difference makers. Hope Shuler absolutely excels at safety.

Agree. That fake hat thing was low rent. Trailer Park.

Just goes to show that nobody really knows anything when it comes to recruiting 18 and 19 year olds, especially in today's NIL environment. So many experts.......

I don't know why you guys watched his commitment. I figured he was gone a couple of weeks ago. The writing has been on the wall for a while. I think he only stayed with his verbal commit up to signing day to maximize the drama, and therefore the attention he was getting. I think he has known for some time.

At least Keeley left a reasonable amount of time for Freeman and staff to have a chance to recover. This kid DGAF, never did.

Believe me, this kid needs nd more than any. Big mistake

Oregon in and of itself isn't a mistake. Good school. Is it Notre Dame? Of course not; however, many 17-year-olds are attracted to Oregon.

his will be shocked when the 1st WR runs right by him for a TD! WR’s are much better in college! ask Gary Gray!

Oregon also landed today a 5-Star DE out of so. California who was highly highly rumored to USC, DJ from Clemson's little brother who is not so little.

What’s the point of lying about his commitment to one coach/teammates just to flip the next day? Is he really trying to make another school/coach look bad? Really wants the point?

I was wondering that too. At least Keely decommitted quietly and months in advance.

My guess is Bowen thrived on the attention. It served a narcissistic need to have people in suspense and see people be affected by his decision or lack thereof. By doing this it compensates for a fragile self-esteem. He's not the only recruit that has done this. It's sad. Or maybe he really was torn and was waiting to the final moment to see who the highest bidder would be.

didn’t get fooled by the hat fake cuz I had already heard about the commitment before I saw it. Still bothers me as I think it’s a pretty classless thing to do when you’re committed to a place for as long as he was.

True, though with Bowen you can tell by these childish antics the type of personality he’s likely going to be. Obviously, nobody knows him and these are just little snippets but it shows a real lack of maturity and narcissism. Everything he shown so far on the field shows that he’s likely to be a difference maker, but it remains to be seen how much he is willing to put in to become the NFL player that he wants to be.

But yes—NIL money changed everything

It's clear this kid has little to no character. He'll more than likely end up in the portal in the future. At least that won't surprise me. Obviously hassle serious growing up to. do. I'd like to wish him well, but that would be dishonest on my part. I'm glad we didn't get him; he'd be nothing but trouble.

Supposedly our staff is still in contact with him today after announcing Oregon….. not sure what to think of that…. On one had he’s young on another he showed who he can be ( not good)

Bowen still hasn't signed with Oregon. More drama. Oklahoma and ND still after him. The league Oregon belongs to will be garbage when SC and UCLA leave although I do have respect for Utah.

The kid gets one shot with ND. That’s it. He’s not going to be around as a Grad transfer so if he goes to Oregon or OU and it doesn’t work out….ND will not be an option. As stated in previous post….much easier to start at ND and if it is a bad fit…transfer out next year. If he’s truly chasing the bag then it doesn’t matter and if he ends up signing elsewhere then we can always wonder (sarcasm). ND will be fine with or without him and the drama. Kids these days.

so we want him again?

It seems many here have forgotten what life is like when you are 18 years old. Sometimes you make decisions impetuously and even rashly. I have read a few interviews in which Bowen said he literally didn't know what he was going to do until the minute he announced for Oregon. People are justifiably upset about the decision, and moreso about the way Bowen handled it, but it's not the end of the world. Life goes on. The sun will rise tomorrow. The Notre Dame brand will be as strong as ever without Peyton Bowen. And let's be honest: if Phil Knight was offering you a large bag of money to come play football at Oregon, wouldn't you at least be tempted? I am not going to lose a minute of sleep over this.

No money being exchanged but it was very difficult for my soccer playing daughter and she had to call the coach and tell her she would not be coming. My daughter decided on closeness to home and education over a D1 soccer scholarship. A couple of months later after starting her new school she wished she took the offer but too late.....but is now happy / content. Not the same but it is difficult for kids.

That being said the hat thing is bush league as is waiting until signing day while still saying you are "committed"

So Phil Knight just woke up today and offered the kid a bag? These kids you speak of are old enough to play the “bag game” and promote themselves all over social media. They know exactly what they are doing when they string other coaches along until signing day then announce elsewhere. Hat tricks and all. Good coaches have backup plans which I’m sure Coach Freeman does. It sucks when it works in ND’s favor and when it does not. The “remember when you were 18” discussion doesn’t work because my parents taught me that once you commit…that’s it. If kids want to pimp themselves to the highest bidder ND should want no part of that.

ND shouldn't partake in the fundamental law of economics? What kind of education is that?

Yep, just posted on that…. You 100% still take him despite that but he showed poor character on this path
Nope. Not happening anyway but no you don’t take him. I made this mistake once many years ago, had a guy accept a job, then back out then call back asking to be reconsidered. I went for it and it was big mistake as he was an indecisive, low character manipulator… not the thing teams are made of.

Let the NFL form a minor league and let the kids that want an education play amateur football.
The NFL is getting off easy now by allowing colleges be their training ground.
