Blitz Jaylon

I am not the one that is always over critical on coaching moves as I am not there everyday, but one thing I think we need to do more is blitz Jaylon Smith. In the Texas game when they blitzed Jaylon he was always making plays. Throughout the year it has been Joe blitzing instead of Jaylon. I understand they want Jaylon to spy or be in coverage because he is a superior athlete but he makes plays when he blitzes. He gets in there so fast. You see in the Pitt game he blitzed more and disrupted everything. We should continue to send him.

It's a double edged sword, blitz Jaylon and higher % of getting to the QB, that leaves Schmidt trying to pass defend and right now he can't cover a fence post.

exactly, Jaylon is too good in pass coverage, look at the GTECH game running step for step with the WR with the pass break up as an example.

He is really good in pass coverage but he is great in blitzing. He gets through the smallest gaps and gets to the qb so fast. We need more sacks and this will also cause bad throws which will lead to picks.

Of course people will be a smart ass and say something about Joe.

Jaylon is only blitzed all year long on a very long down and distance.

Quite predictable that other teams would notice.
3rd and 15 or more Jaylon could be blitzing. Anything less he either covers or if its a very good running threat at qb he spys. I would like to see him blitz in shorter down and distances. Like even a delayed blitz. Making sure direction and intention of the QB, then blitz him. He might not get there but he will hurry the throw.

Im not bad mouthing Joe. He has not played as well as last year but to the coaches he is the best option so I am fine with it. With Jaylon getting in there so fast, Joe would not have to cover for that long.

Yeah he can be utilized more in different positions. Maybe allow him come off the edge some. Let him play a little middle linebacker. He covers so much space. Covering Stanford's tightends will be a disaster for Schmidt. He looked lost at times in pass coverage this year.

Im not bashing Joe either. Its just a fact that he is too slow. Go back and look at all the times he has blitzed, he hardly ever gets past the LOS.might as well not even blitz him and let him cover.
