Al Golen leaving?

I think so Mr Ripley
Been digging around All day and from what I heard their expecting golden to sign the contract and leave ND.

Also I read that Goldens family still lives in Cincinnati.

Thought he has a son that’s a freshman at ND.
I don’t know hopefully he stays at ND. I’m pretty sure there’s a substantial buy out also.
It’s rumored he interviews tommorow and we’ll know by tommorow evening.

I wonder sometimes what the attraction is to some nfl jobs. You mention family, maybe more money? No recruiting? More home base stability ie less travel. Maybe more prestige?

I am thinking the nd job is pretty sweet. So dunno. Probably depends on the coach b his preferences

Unless he is playing Defensive Tackle and is 300+ and runs a 4.5 40 we will survive
He is. You didn't know that? Make it 6-6, 320. And I think he might actually run a 4.5. And with all this craziness with NIL, and transfers and players playing for nine years and there are no rules anymore, I'm pretty sure he's going to try get eligible again. And start at NT next season.

So yeah, we'll survive. But this is a major loss.

College jobs have become far less attractive since NIL and the portal. Who wants to spend all their time chasing after a 16 year old kid that they're not gonna end up coaching? And even if they came to your school, they've got one foot out the door. It's exhausting and brutal. NFL money is just as good, if not better in some cases and far more stability. And that's saying a lot. Would hate to see Golden leave, but don't blame him one bit if he does.

Golden has been incredibly valuable to Freeman and the play of our defense, and wish him well if he chooses to return to the NFL. While he has been a really effective DC, I think he was most valuable as a prior college HC in helping Freeman during his learning on the job first two years. Freeman is now exceptionally comfortable in his head coaching skin, and I think Golden’s value is now limited to his role as DC, where he excels. He won’t be easily replaced if he leaves, but my guess is Freeman elevates Mickens rather than hire from outside. Mickens is ready to be a DC, and starting near the top with ND might be yet another on the job learning experience, but Freeman can help in the way Golden helped him.

Some speculation that the bengals head coach and staff will be canned next season if they disappoint.
With that being said how shitty would it be for golden to jump ship to be let go after following season. I hope golden considers this possibility and stays with ND for another season etc. Jmo.

I have a question about Golden. I think we all agree he's been excellent for the defense. I for one loved his style and play calling, etc. But is he primarily a man to man defense? The big reason I ask this is that its obvious that was a bit of a killer for us against OSU with all of their talent at WR. We all heard it, the defense was going to continue doing what got them there. Or did we simply run man to man because of the personnel we had this year?

Yes.

Mike Mickens?
That is a conversation for later.
Right now
Frustrated NFL constantly tinkering with our coaches when we have a good run. I guess we know how saban felt every season and the Alabama fan base. I get the NFL is the most coveted etc.

This one stings for sure. But we will get a better coordinator. We are definitely a “ good job “ for up and coming d coordinators.

Only took 36 hours to leave for a new job. I said it during the game and it came true.

That was a defense prepared by a coach already out the door. I don't care how professional you are, when you know you're gone, it's different.

That was the most unprepared and poorly called game under golden in his 3 years here.

Pathetic. I know freeman in front of cameras will be all appreciative, and it didn't have an impact, blah blah, but he needs to learn from his.

Al goldens last meaningful call for ND was to put Gray on Smith 1-1, cover 0, on 3rd and 11 with the game on the line, and have him play middle leverage like he had deep safety help.

Frichan crazy.

Yawn.

Simple. Al golden didn't expect osu to take a chance completely down the field. To seal the victory. It was the dropped ball on 4th down. And missed field goal. If it was anything. Should of never been in that predicament. That's where golden could be blamed. Too much odd ball out of character play calls. Confusing their offense, which caused us to be confused. Preparation was hot garbo. Strange. Sux.

The big problem is that we have seen it before with him. But ignored, cause of overall body of work. Maybe these upsets and meltdowns were not all freeman's fault. And more trusting too much of dc. Niu should of never scored on us. Marshall, Stanford, louisville, the blown second half big lead, and ohio state last year. Addition by subtraction we can only hope.

Wouldn’t “middle leverage” force the receiver more to the boundary?
Just like it happened?
Smith ran Gray more to the middle of the field and then broke the route back into a skinny corner.

Since you are always right, can you give me the numbers to this week's lottery?

It is the nature of the business.

The Golden to Bengals DC rumor started the first week in Dec. after the Steelers scored 44. You didn’t predict it then.
