Lou Holtz record his last 3 years. So...why would a guy who still wanted to coach football (99-04) at SC....and a guy who LOVES ND will every fiber in his body walk away from his DREAM job?

I believe his quote was "we stopped attacking".Translation? 8-3 then and 9-3 now is the new 12-0. 9-3 is the ceiling 9 years out of 10. Will a fluke like Ty's 8-0 or BK 12-0 happen once a decade? Sure, but it will only lead to an outclassed lack of talent ND team to get humiliated in a Major Bowl Game.

Currently as constructed ND is a 2nd rate B level football program. This was a 12-0 season for BK.

Not sure I completely agree but it is an interesting thought. ND has a good solid football team. Great? No. Stanford has a good solid football team that isn't great. Northwestern is competitive. All high academic schools that are competitive, with ND and Stanford a level year in and year out above NW, but not elite. Can it happen at an elite academic school? I wonder how hard it is to get into TCU? Patterson has done wonders there. Given the circumstances and the recent 30 year history, has Kelly reached the ceiling for ND? I want to say no, but that may be wishful thinking. However, there is no reason ND shouldn't beat Stanford. The academic argument goes out the window there.

This guy loves the taste of BK hahaha.

Notre Dame just needs to find the right coach.
If it wasn't for another disappointing, late season collapse under Kelly, Notre Dame should've beaten Miami and Stanford, heading to the playoffs as the #1 team.

Trucking 33 turned into Pinto 33, and the Heisman candidacy up in flames. Wimbush turned into 2nd baseman Chuck Knoblach trying to throw it to 1st base. Wimbush was far better the first half of the season. It was thought he would be in the Heisman running next year. Who knows if he'll even start now, maybe move him to running back or wide receiver is best. Most good coaches would probably already have done that.

Davie, Losingham, and Weis have proven to be terrible coaches since getting the ax at Notre Dame. It's past time to move on from Kelly, and let him strikeout somewhere else now. Take a shot on someone new at Notre Dame.

This constant "right coach" talk is amusing to me. There is no "right coach that is coming to a school that creates barriers to winning.

You know who the right coach was for ND? Urban Meyer. A former ND assistant who loved Notre Dame, but chose to go to two other places instead and won 3 national titles in the process... He Chose Florida because he doesn't see the same commitment to winning at ND.

The legendary coaches at ND won at a time where ND's recruiting class would have been ranked #1 or #2 each year. They had unlimited access to elite talent in generations that valued different things. Those days are gone.

That may be, but getting beat by teams with equal or less talent is what we currently have. Most teams improve over the year, unless they rack up some injuries. We seem to decline and the wheels fall off. We were exposed and there was no turning back. Once in a while , Kelly comes up with a good game plan, but often times, he leaves you scratching your head. Throwing in a monsoon, trying to outrun a fast Miami team with slow developing plays, trying to ram it down the throat of a big, strong, slow team, last night....I just don't get him.
Should have been fired a year ago.
