Recruiting LB target schedules ND official visit

I communicated with 2024 linebacker target Chris Cole this evening and he confirmed to Inside ND Sports that he's set an official visit to Notre Dame for June 9-11.

He received an offer from the Irish on March 28 and recently visited Notre Dame last Friday. Before his visit, he described his excitement toward what Notre Dame offered on and off the field.

“I know football is important, but life is too," Cole said last week prior to visiting. "It’d be great for me because if I went there, everything wouldn’t revolve around football."

Cole couldn't stay for the Blue-Gold Game but said he enjoyed his visit with the Irish.

"My Notre Dame visit was great," Cole said on Saturday. "Had the opportunity to spend time with [defensive coordinator] Coach [Al] Golden, he touched on how well I fit in Notre Dame's defense, how they can take my great talent and develop me into a phenomenal skilled player with possibilities of playing at the next level."

The 6-foot-3, 209-pound defender hails from Salem (Va.) High. Rivals rates Cole as a three-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class. He is not currently ranked.

Cole reports 12 total offers including Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

There are a few OL prospects with Notre Dame interest including 2025 C/G Kage Payne. He's the son of BJ Payne, a longtime friend of Marcus Freeman and Jaylen Sneed's HS coach. They were at ND yesterday for the Blue-Gold Game.

Gilbert just visited Notre Dame this past weekend. I like where the Irish are positioned here.

Football Transcripts: Jaylen Sneed, Jaden Greathouse, Al Washington, Marcus Freeman after Blue-Gold Game

We're working on the postgame transcripts of linebacker Jaylen Sneed, wide receiver Jaden Greathouse, defensive line and Gold head coach Al Washington and head coach Marcus Freeman.

JAYLEN SNEED

What has the process been like from last January until now?

“The older guys in the linebacker room have really just helped me grow and develop. So last year wasn’t a year where I played a lot, but I learned so much from just watching them play. It was just a great year to get experience from them.”

When did you realize you weren’t ready to play last season? When did you realize this spring that you were ready to play again?

“Me and Freeman had a conversation early in the fall after fall camp. He told me that I was going to redshirt my freshman year. That was kind of hard to take, but he knows best. I just wanted to keep grinding and eventually I did get to play at the end of the season. It made me better, because I just wanted to grind so much harder because I wasn’t playing.”

How much does today help your confidence?

“It definitely helps a lot just knowing that me and my linebacker crew had a great day. We got to tackle a lot of people and play a lot of football. It’s great for experience.”

What motivation does the Blue-Gold setup create for you?

“I love that they picked Nolan [Ziegler] before me. It gave me like a little chip on my shoulder. It just made me want to work harder and play as best as I can.”

What kind of speed did you show to track down Chris Tyree? What did that tackle represent to you?

“I had the edge on that play. I knew — I saw CT get the ball. I saw him running around the edge. I know I just have to play the edge and play the C gap and give him nowhere to go. I squeezed him to the sideline and made the play.”

What are the challenges of coverage playing rover for you?

“Over the past three semesters, I’ve gotten a lot better at coverage. I’ve learned how to stay disciplined and keep my eyes in the right spot. There’s still some growth there, but there’s always growth.”

Football Trematerra Family endows director of football performance position

Release from UND.com:

Peter and Pam Trematerra of Singer Island, Florida, have made a gift to the University of Notre Dame to endow the Director of Football Performance position, which is currently held by Matt Balis. Balis’ new title will be the Trematerra Family Director of Football Performance.

The Trematerra Family Director of Football Performance is responsible for many aspects within the program, including strength and conditioning, nutrition and mental wellness. The Trematerra’s gift will help underwrite the salary of the position, provide stability and resources for the long term and create funds for use within the athletics department.

“This role is absolutely vital to the overall success of our program,” Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Marcus Freeman said. “We are thankful to the Trematerras for recognizing how important this position is and for generously providing their support to help us compete at the highest level.”

Balis recently completed his sixth season at Notre Dame. During his time on staff, the Fighting Irish have posted a 63-14 record and made two appearances in the College Football Playoff. Balis has trained and mentored numerous All-Americans and NFL draft picks while at Notre Dame

“It is an honor and a privilege to be the Trematerra Family Director of Football Performance at the University of Notre Dame,” Balis said. “I am very grateful to Peter and Pam for their support and for providing us with the necessary resources to win a national championship.”

The Trematerras are longtime supporters of Notre Dame, and their daughter, Lindsey, is a 2022 graduate of the Notre Dame Law School. Among their many associations with the University, the Trematerras are members of the Badin Guild and the Athletics Director’s Circle. Peter Trematerra is the owner-developer of Trematerra Custom Homes. The company was founded in 2013 and has completed projects near the Notre Dame campus.

“We are thrilled to recognize the incredible importance this position has within the Notre Dame Football program,” said the Trematerras. “It also highlights the tremendous impact Coach Balis has on the student-athletes he develops into better football players and individuals. We are incredibly excited about the future of the program, and we hope that endowing this position will help the team achieve excellence in the many years to come.”
