SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame hockey program has announced its non-conference opponents for the 2024-25 season, including the team’s first-ever appearance outside North America when they compete at the 2024 Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The home slate features first-time contests with Lindenwood as well as renewed rivalries with Alaska and Long Island University.

The Irish will host the US National Team Development Program for an exhibition contest in Compton Family Ice Arena on October 6 prior to the official start to the 2024-25 season.

The season officially kicks off the following weekend with the team traveling to up state New York to face off against St. Lawrence (Oct. 11) and Clarkson (Oct. 12) before opening the home slate Oct. 18-19 against Alaska.

They close out the opening month of competition Oct. 25-26 when they host Long Island University. The Irish and Sharks have met once previously, a 2021 tilt in which Notre Dame rolled to a 5-2 victory inside CFIA.

Notre Dame then travels across the Atlantic for the Friendship Four where they join Harvard, Merrimack and Boston University in the four-team tournament Nov. 29-30.

The Irish round out their non-conference contests at the end of January when they host Lindenwood, Jan. 24-25. With the Lions now in their third season of NCAA Division I ice hockey, the weekend series will mark the first time the Irish and Lions have met.

Having aced my techie challenges last week and with @Tyler James still on vacation, I plan to co-host with former Notre Dame offensive lineman Bob Morton either Tuesday or Wednesday night when he gets back from New Orleans. I should be able to give an exact time and date sometime early tomorrow. My guess at this point is it will be Wednesday. Then on Friday, we're going to do a recruiting-oriented version with longtime recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. That will be a day after Notre Dame holds its Grill & Chill recruiting event, so there will be lots to talk about. Tom will be checking in from the road, in North Carolina. I'll have a story up in a bit ... but Arike Ogunbowale scored a WNBA All-Star record 34 points Saturday night in Phoenix — all in the second half — as the WNBA stars took down the Paris-bound U.S. Olympic Women's basketball team, 117-109, in the specially formatted WNBA All-Star Game.

Ogunbowale was named the game's MVP after going 10-of-20 from the field, including 8-of-13 from 3, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. The MVP of Notre Dame's 2018 national championship run added six assists, three rebounds and two steals.

She was one of four former Irish players in the game. Kayla McBride had three points and two assists in 11 minutes off the bench for the WNBA stars. Jewell Loyd started for the Olympians and was scoreless in 13 minutes, with three assists and two rebounds. Jackie Young came off the bench for the Olympic team, with two points and three assists in 16 minutes.

Ogunbowale was also the game's MVP in 2021 after scoring 26 points.

College football/ Semi pro football is getting harder to watch, but now GAME DAY has been ruined, we now have 2 listen to the drab tones of saban analyzing games. He needs to na na nang nang nang nang, go spend time in the Georgia woods in his cabin sitting on his front porch visiting with his kin folks , and leave the hosting to the professionals . Go Irish

Because my wife and I had gone to see The Rolling Stones in concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 7th, I just received a presale invitation from the stadium to purchase tickets to the ND v. This as of early Thursday evening. ... I'm not saying the reports that an LSU lean are incorrect, but I don't think a final decision has been made by the family. Notre Dame is still fighting ... and some of the timelines about when the family would shut down communications with schools appear to have been extended. The Irish surged strong enough last week to extend this announcement out a week. Again LSU sources feel good, but Notre Dame is not giving up. I hope to have something more concrete tomorrow.
