Basketball MBB: Micah Shrewsberry, Notre Dame set new bar with 2025 recruiting class

“When Coach [Micah Shrewsberry] and I were sitting up here last year, we were confident we were going to have a really good day today,” said Brian Snow, director of recruiting of recruiting for ND men's basketball. “We might not have known exactly who was coming and who wasn’t, but we had a plan in place. Everybody from the top down was able to execute that plan. You see the results of it today with four signees that we couldn’t be happier about.”

Basketball MBB: Notre Dame signs its four commits in sixth-ranked 2025 class

All four of Notre Dame men's basketball's verbal commitments have been converted to signees today on the first day of the early signing period for the 2025 class.

The Irish will host a press conference at 1 p.m. EST to discuss the quartet.

Here's what Micah Shrewsberry said about them in a press release.

On the full class: "We are very proud of the four who signed with us this morning. They are all tremendous young men and fantastic basketball players who will represent Notre Dame on and off the court at a high level.

“When we as a staff began focusing on this class, we had a clear vision for what we wanted. We were looking to improve our skill level, size, and athleticism, and we were able to land four of our top priority recruits, in what can only be described as an elite recruiting class.”

On four-star SF Jalen Haralson: “When I first got the job here, from a recruiting perspective, immediately Jalen was a top target for us. Jalen was someone who we knew was an elite player and a great kid as well. His combination of size, athleticism, passing ability, and versatility have long made him one of the top players in his class nationally, and given him the ability to represent the country with USA Basketball. We couldn’t be more excited about what Jalen is going to bring to Notre Dame."

On four-star PF Brady Koehler: “Brady is someone who I have been very familiar with for a long time. He attends Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, which is the same high school I attended. Brady is someone who we think has legitimate NBA potential. He is 6-foot-9 with over a 7-foot wingspan, and already has high-level athleticism along with an ability to handle the basketball and make shots. As he gets stronger, Brady is someone who we expect to thrive and really explode onto the scene.”

On four-star SF Ryder Frost: “Playing for the Middlesex Magic AAU program, Ryder is someone who we became very familiar with this summer. The Middlesex Magic program has been very kind to Notre Dame, and Ryder is the latest example. Immediately what stands out with Ryder is his ability to make shots. He is in my opinion the best outside shooter in the entire class. However, he can do more than just catch and shoot. Ryder also is a capable ball handler and an underrated athlete whose size and strength should give him positional versatility.”

On three-star C Tommy Ahneman: “Finding true big men who can score with their back to the basket and also face the rim and make an impact is difficult, but that is exactly what Tommy can do. Tommy is a center who has skill and should immediately provide a physical presence to this program and be someone who you can throw the ball to on the post and expect a bucket with his combination of a soft touch around the rim and excellent footwork.”

James Madison

Eric or Tyler, do you have any information on the James Madison Womens Basketball team? They are 3-0 early on but 3-0 this early does not necessarily speak to how good they are. Of those 3 opponents, were any of the three not underdogs in playing James Madison? How good is James Madison? Can ND score 100 points once again? I can say one thing, they better have great ball handlers because Hannah made the Purdue Guard look really bad. It changed the whole game

No film analysis this week

My apologies, but with all the recruiting coverage this week — on top of buying a car and having a doctor's appointment today — I'm not going to have time to do my typical film analysis with clips. I haven't even rewatched a play from the Florida State game yet. I will still do my rewatch and can share some notes with you later in the week, it just won't be as comprehensive with visual aids.

Busy times, but I wanted to give you all a heads up.

Football Notre Dame's defense is second in the country in stop rate

College football writer Max Olson, who is currently working for ESPN, likes to measure the stop rate for defenses in college football.

It's a pretty simple statistic that should probably be discussed more often. It counts the percentage of drives for defenses that end in punts, turnovers or a turnover on downs.

Michigan was No. 1 in stop rate last season at 81.6% on its way to a national championship.

The top two teams in stop rate this year aren't far off from Michigan's number last year.

Ohio State is No. 1 at 81.3%. Notre Dame is No. 2 at 81.2%.

You can find the full stop rate list here:

Recruiting 2026 Four-star CB Chaston Smith sets five finalists and commitment date

@samspiegelman caught up with Rivals100 CB Chaston Smith following his Notre Dame visit. Now Smith is looking at making a decision on Dec. 1.

I don't have a great read on this one right now. I'm not ruling Notre Dame out certainly, but I don't think the timing is exclusively related to him coming off his ND visit.
