Recruiting Another blue-chip Floridian to keep an eye on

Mallory picked up the ND offer back on Pot of Gold Day and he has yet to visit, but connecting with him at his game last night made it clear he has an affinity for the Irish. He likes the style and recent RB history in the program and outside of local Miami, he is leaning towards Big Ten area programs for their grit and run prioritization. He'll drop top schools soon and ND is likely the only program that will make the cut despite not having hosted him. JM said he was about to get up this weekend or later this month, but the staff is focused on OVs for the 2025 cycle. That probably pushes an all-important first impression of South Bend to January. But it's in the works...

Release: Pat Rogers Named Director of Student-Athlete Management in NIL Division

Notre Dame shared this press release earlier this week ...

SOUTH BEND, IN - Pat Rogers ‘10, former Notre Dame men’s basketball director of operations, has been named the first Director of Student-Athlete Management within the University’s burgeoning Name, Image and Likeness division. Rogers began in this role on Nov. 1 and will continue to support Glenn & Stacey Murphy Head Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry and the program until a replacement is found upon the completion of the 2024-25 season.

“I look forward to serving our student-athletes and coaches as we help shape the way Notre Dame leads in the evolving NIL landscape,” Rogers said. “We will continue to be aggressive and progressive in allowing our student-athletes to maximize their opportunities while here at Notre Dame and I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

In this role, Rogers is tasked with fostering relationships to support the retention of student-athletes for the entirety of their time at the university, leading the charge within the division on communication and negotiations and being a strategic leader for preparing for the future of what name, image and likeness offers.

“The addition of Pat is the perfect step for us to be prepared for the new-age of college athletics,” said Aaron Horvath, Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs. “Pat’s understanding of the ecosystem of name, image and likeness, his ability to connect with student-athletes and coaches and his appreciation of what makes Notre Dame special is what sets him apart in this role.”

Rogers spent four years as director of basketball operations at Notre Dame - two with head coach Mike Brey and two with Shrewsberry. Prior to Notre Dame, Rogers spent the previous five seasons as the director of operations for the University of Delaware men’s basketball team.

Before Delaware, Rogers served the first three years of his Notre Dame tenure and where he made his connection with Delaware head coach Martin Ingelsby. In his position, he worked with the day-to-day oversight of the program and was the coordinator of all scouting videos.

A native of Lake Zurich, Ill., Rogers was a student manager for the Irish for two seasons before graduating from Notre Dame in 2010 with a degree in accountancy from the Mendoza College of Business. He then spent two years as a graduate assistant with the Providence men’s basketball program and received a master’s degree in business administration, before serving as director of basketball operations at The Citadel during the 2012-13 season.

He is married to Kayla (Miller) Rogers and they are parents to their son, Trevor.

We will update this thread as we confirm names of expected visitors.

Targets have a Notre Dame offer. Prospects do not. PWO is a preferred walk-on candidate.

All visits are unofficial visits unless listed with OV to denote an official visit.

As is always the case with recruits, this list is tentative. Recruits listed on previous dates made it to campus.

Wetzel: Why a weekly College Football Playoff rankings show is dumb

The task of the College Football Playoff committee has never been easy, although it has often been obvious. In the four-team era, there were numerous seasons with just four clear candidates; other years, there was maybe a single decision to be made.

Yet despite that, the committee was routinely vilified for bias, hypocrisy and inconsistency, mainly because of the folly of the weekly rankings show each Tuesday (beginning in November) on ESPN.

It was there that for five weeks — despite limited data — the committee had to roll out rankings as if the “season ended today,” which it didn’t.

It made massive controversies out of issues that would naturally play themselves out — like ranking two teams that were set to play each other. Coaches and fans were left to try to figure out what the most important criteria was — head-to-head victory or number of losses or margin of victory or strength of schedule or strength of record or …?

A week later, it would be something else.

The committee was trapped. These are 13 well-meaning and highly intelligent people trying to follow protocols and do an honest job, but trapped with an impossible — and pointless — task.

The show became a public relations problem for the committee. It undermined the credibility of a group that needed to be trusted.

And those were the good old days.
