Recruiting Playing with passion: 2025 S JaDon Blair on football path, Notre Dame offer

Notre Dame extended an offer to 2025 safety JaDon Blair in April. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound safety attends Winston Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor and registered 44 tackles last season. I spoke with the three-star defender tonight and learned more about his interest in the Irish moving forward.

Blair said he respects all of his offers but was excited about Notre Dame because he's seen how they develop a player at his position with a similar makeup.

"When you see other safeties like Kyle Hamilton who went there and went to the Baltimore Ravens, I'm like, 'He has my same exact size and I could fit in like that,'" Blair told Inside ND Sports. "I haven't been up to the program yet but I am looking forward to getting down on a visit to see what it's about because seeing a safety your size ... you don't see that everywhere."

Blair believes he's a hybrid safety who can defend the pass but also provide run support. He said he separates himself from others through his aggressiveness at the point of contact.

"Every safety can cover, we can fly around real fast, we can intercept the ball," Blair said. "But something I got that not too many safeties have is I'm coming down the field and I'm going to hit you. If it's an open-field tackle, I'm not going to dive at your legs, I'm going to hit you straight up like a linebacker."

Blair said academics and relationships with coaches are his biggest priorities when making a decision.

"When we think about we think about life after football, football is not always going to be there, but my brain will," Blair said. "We have to be able to be educated at the same time as being good at football because the saying is student-athlete, not athlete-student. That's why I'm always so serious about my education."

Blair reports 10 total offers including Notre Dame, Louisville, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Blair said he doesn't have any visit plans set but would like to see Notre Dame's atmosphere for a game day visit.

Recruiting 2024 DE target Loghan Thomas set for two more visits to Notre Dame

I confirmed tonight with four-star defensive end target Loghan Thomas that he will be visiting Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday of this week on an unofficial visit. He then plans to return June 9-11 for an official visit.

Thomas was already on campus for a long unofficial visit in March. The No. 162 overall prospect in the 2024 class remains a high priority for the Irish. I'm thinking long and hard about putting in a FutureCast for Thomas to ND.

Make sense of the five start dearth

The kids who realize they arent the brightest go to Bama, Georgia, etc., because they don't care about education or they know they can get an NIL deal and make a million before even playing. The smart "40 for 4 years" kids can get a million on an NIL at a Bama and still get a good education because they are smart.

If you had a good head on your shoulders wouldn't you go pick up a mil and retire from football and get a Bama degree?

MLax: Third-seeded Notre Dame routs Utah, 20-7, in NCAA Tourney opener

Jake Taylor scored three of his game-high five goals in the first period as third-seeded Notre Dame blew out to an 8-0 lead and kept the hammer down on the way to a 20-7 rout of visiting Utah in an NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament first-round matchup, Saturday at Arlotta Stadium.

Goalie Liam Entenmann had 13 saves, including the 500th of his career, before giving way late to reserve Alex Zepf. Entenmann is just the fourth player in Notre Dame history to reach that milestone.

Taylor's five goals was a season high for him and tied the school record for individual goals in an NCAA Tournament game. The 20 goals by the Irish were a program record in tourney play as was the margin of victory.

Notre Dame won 22 faceoffs to nine for the Utes.

Hey ND fans! I'll be Rivals' point of contact down South, where of course the Irish will be plenty active in recruiting. We kick things off with one of the region's fastest-risers, Sean Sevillano, who is readying for his second impression of South Bend -- but it will be his parents' first.

WLAX: Kasey Choma, Irish upend No. 6 seed Florida in NCAA Tourney

Kasey Choma scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds left in regulation as the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team upended sixth-seeded Florida, 16-15, in an NCAA Tournament second-round game in Gainesville, Fla.

The Irish (15-5) advance to a quarterfinal matchup Thursday (2:30 p.m. EDT; ESPNU) at third-seeded Boston College (17-3). The Eagles are 2-0 this season against Notre Dame, winning 12-11 in South Bend on April 8, and 9-4 on April 28 in the ACC Tournament semis in Charlotte, N.C.

Four of Notre Dame’s five losses this season have come to the teams seeded 1 (Northwestern), 2 (Syracuse) and 3 (BC) in the NCAA Tournament.

ND reached the quarterfinals of the NCAAs for the sixth time in school history after Florida (17-4) rallied from a four-goal, fourth-period deficit to tie the game on a goal by Danielle Pavinelli with 1:22 left.

Choma followed 72 seconds later off an assist from Jane McAvoy for her fourth goal of the game, her third of the fourth period and her 68th of the season. The senior from Manorville, N.Y., also had two assists in the game.

Senior Jackie Wolak led the Irish with five goals and two assistants. Senior Madison Ahern had a hat trick and an assist.

The Irish had a 29-19 command in shots on goal, but junior Lilly Callahan stopped just four Gator shots.

BAS: Notre Dame rallies for pair of wins over Akron on Saturday

Junior lefty Ryan Lynch brought a season 10.29 ERA to the mound in a critical ninth-inning situation and promptly struck out Akron power threat Jack Firestone on three pitches with two runners on to preserve Notre Dame’s 5-4 non-conference baseball victory over the Zips on Saturday.

Earlier in the day at Eck Stadium, the host Irish rallied to beat Akron, 5-2, in a game suspended by rain Friday night in the sixth inning.

The final home baseball series of the season continues with a Sunday finale at 1 p.m. EDT.

In Game 2, the Irish (28-19) rallied from a 4-3 deficit when Carter Putz singled home Estevan Moreno in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch.

Putz reached base on a one-out walk, stole second, advanced to third on a Vinny Martinez flyout, then came home on a wild pitch.

Right-hander Caden Spivey (4-1) got the win with 3 ⅔ innings of shutout relief of starter Blake Hely, but he ran into some trouble in the ninth. And Lynch came on with two outs and two on to face Zips home run leader Firestone, a left-handed hitter who hit his 16th of the season for the Zips (18-32) earlier in the game.

With the three-pitch appearance, Lynch earned his first career save.

Right fielder Brooks Coetzee reached base all five times he came to the plate in game 2, with a single, two walks and two times being hit by a pitch.

With his nation’s leading 30th, Coetzee is the new single-season ACC record holder, passing Wake Forest’s Ryder Mathias (29 in 2005). The Notre Dame record is 31, set by Brett Lilley in 2008. Lilley is the NCAA’s career hit-by-pitch king with 109.

Scott Davis of Delaware State (2012) and Brian Harris of Vanderbilt (2010) share the NCAA single-season record with 37.

In the completion of the suspended game, TJ Williams’ RBI single touched off a four-run seventh inning as Notre Dame rallied past Akron, 5-2.

Akron took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring an unearned run off Irish starter Aidan Tyrell. Putz tied the game on an RBI double in the bottom of the frame. When rain halted the game heading to the bottom of the sixth, Putz’s double remained Notre Dame’s only hit.

The Irish offense finally got rolling in the bottom of the seventh. Zack Prajzner doubled home Williams for a 3-1 ND advantage, and Martinez blasted a two-run double to make it 5-1. ND stole three bases in the inning.

Prajzner reached base all five times he came to the plate, with three walks and a hit by pitch in addition to his double. Lefty Will Mercer (3-0) pitched the final three innings to get the win. He allowed three hits and an unearned run, while striking out three.

After Sunday’s finale with Akron, the Irish finish the regular season on the road, first in a single game Tuesday night at Wrigley Field in Chicago against Northwestern, then a three-game weekend series Thursday through Saturday against 20th-ranked Boston College.

The middle game of that series, Friday night at 7, will be played at Boston’s Fenway Park.
