Football LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa added to Polynesian Player of the Year Watch List

One Notre Dame player has previously won this award, given out annually since 2014 -- OT Ronnie Stanley in 2015.

Through three games, the freshman linebacker is tied for second on the team with 13 tackles. That includes a tackle for loss, with 0.5 sacks. He's one of four Irish players with an interception this season.

This is what I'm talking about. The guy was a laughingstock, he made ND a laughingstock, and very much overrated in terms of pure ability. He didn't make it in the NFL because he's not that good. He's overcoached, not naturally talented, and has stiff, brittle technique and can't improvise or throw off platform because he's mainly a product of exhaustive coaching and practice. To say nothing of his total lack of any kind of personal appeal or natural leadership. Though he does throw a nice deep ball when he get all his technique and mechanics perfect.

And yet ND fans continue to mourn and admire him. While Ian Book is an afterthought and is scoffed at, even though Book, most definitely >>> Jimmy Clausen.
I don’t care about the laughingstock part. It was easy to laugh at ND for the non-ND fan because they sucked. Some people didn’t like him, Weis, or ND…so what?

He was still a darn good QB. Brady Quinn’s career wasn’t much different in the NFL. They were roughly equals at ND. The difference is that Brady Quinn stayed for his senior year and played on better overall teams.

Take Purdue off the schedule

That's fine but this thread is about USC dumping ND as an annual rival, which has already happened but some of you domers haven't figured it out yet. Your cherished rivalry has been terminated by Lincoln Riley. Don't you understand this?
Yeah I think we get it. USC had dumped ND. The rivalry is over. ND is disgraced. Party time in West Lafayette.

Yeah? Feel good?

He’s playing at a very high level, which makes my frustration with Leonard’s passing that much greater. That back shoulder catch on our game winning drive against Texas A&M was absolutely elite. I’ve been really impressed with every aspect of Beaux’s game.
Beaux has been a wasted talent thus far. Hopefully the passing game gets sorted out, and ND can maximize his abilities.

I was there and clearly you were not.
and you clearly had a personal beef with Clausen

which with your history is not surprising

so to save time I am just going to say your post was pretty much total crap of someone who is small, petty and usually wrong
Case in effin' point. You're like a Clausen cultist. No idea why, only reason I can think of you is desperately want to live vicariously, and forever bathe in all the glorious hype of this once in a lifetime player, when he was so manifestly anything but. There's almost something profound about dead-end ND fans that still pine for Jimmy Clausen and dutifully carry his banner, as the great lost hope that was never able to fulfill his rightful destiny. All part of ND's illustrious football lore I suppose....

Everyone knew 2007 was going to be a bad year; Ty's last two classes were total garbage and weis had started to repair it somewhat but there simply was a huge loss of talent after 2006
now a certain poster here whines and cries about how it was not that bad but having to watch it every game it was.
The 2007 team was almost certainly going to take a hit because of the recruiting. It probably wouldn’t have been as bad with a better coach, but it wasn’t Weis’ fault that he had two bare recruiting classes.

You seem to have as much of an issue with all of the non-football field stuff surrounding Clausen than his actual performance on game day.

He was drafted in the 2nd round and played in the NFL for six years. Clausen helped give Weis a chance at seeing year six. That was Weis’ fault he didn’t get it.

Did we have something to do with Wake Forest cancelling on Ole Miss?

One of the problems. The ACC plays instate games for everyone except Miami Pitt Syracuse and BC I think. So it would have to be one of those. 3 of which are not warm. The other 3 more than likely won't be Championship level teams. Good teams? Possibly but 8-4 9-3 ish.And they might not want that tough of a game going into Championship weekend for Miami. why give Miami a home field advantage every other year? Make them come up to ND then the other years. ACC won't do that. Miami could be getting reay to return to their old winning ways. Remember this was a rivalry when they were an independent as well. This is the problem ND is beginning to face. The Super Leagues have enough quality games. They don't need ND. ACC still does but they are not going to be at a scheduling disadvantage to help ND. And USC absolutely is going to evaluate the games going forward. As they are now travelling East 4-5 times per season.

Yeah, I guess. Is that damning with faint praise? We avoided 2-10, and with JC around and his heralded junior season we managed to hit the six win mark? I think it might be. Didn't we lose the last four games, inexplicably, going from a possible New Year's Day bowl to the start of the BK era, which of course was a great boon to ND, in the space of a month? With JC at the helm, ready to really make his mark at ND and get us back into the top tier?

I would consider the JC years at ND a nearly unmitigated disaster. So while he made some very pretty throws, his matriculation was definitely a huge net negative for ND, other than it led to the BK era.
more of the same drivel from a poster notorious for it

Definitely the coach as always. But the JC years were his years. There's never been any other hype like that. There's never been a team and an offense more blatantly handed off to a QB to do as he wishes than Weis and his prize protege JC, even including an almost slightly bizarre spectacle involving Demetrius Jones' nominal ascent to the starting QB, post Brady Quinn, and the new fangled offense Weis with some fanfare was going to unleash, which lasted approximately three quarters and it was gone. And then not much more inauspiciously could the JC years begin with his first start vs Michigan, featuring an infamous 4-defender tandem sack that I'm sure you can watch on YouTube. And then it was basically downhill from there.

And we did have some elite skill position players. And respectable talent all around, it wasn't some Purdue level roster, that'a a canard of JC apologists. So of course the buck stops with the HC. But I'd be much more inclined to say JC destroyed Weis and not anything resembling the other way around. It was almost like a Shakespearean fall from grace for Weis, dubiously putting all his fortunes in JC's goofy-looking, spoiled rich kid's basket. And then seeing his career suddenly crumble, after getting off to a very bright start, including a huge contract extension. And the rest is history.

he is a small petty person who is clearly jealous of Clausen

Yeah, well.... he sucked. ND's rosters were not that shitty when he was there, that's way more than a myth. He had a legit QB guru who handpicked him in Weis Sr., and nurtured and coddled him. And while he had a big junior year and flashed his 'arm talent' quite a bit, mainly on slant routes that apparently made him such a wunderkind. And then went to the NFL and absolutely did not make it at all. After being a three year college starter with the offense revolving around him. And as a 2nd round pick someone who definitely had his chance to impress and consistently didn't.

And he was about as uncharismatic and naturally not likable as you could possibly be. So much so that it actually hurt his NFL career. And yet ND fans still cling to him as the misunderstood and underrated golden boy of the modern era for ND, who was felt to have been robbed somehow, in some unspecified way from achieving his true greatness, when the exact opposite would be true and he enjoyed every last possible advantage and opportunity. To the point that he appeared to have been so coddled and so overly nurtured and catered to, vaguely reminiscent of Todd Marinovich only from a totally rich family, that it probably stunted his development. In fact it almost certainly did.

But it's true that he has a pretty nice highlight reel. And a terrible W/L record.

"Is it for certain ND won't play Stanford next year? "

As of right now, ND has 11 games on the schedule, and Stanford is not one of them. Also, the 5 ACC teams do not have dates attached to them yet either. Currently, as it sits, ND opens 9.13.2025 at home vs Texas A&M
The 12th could very well end up being Stanford, but a renewal of the ongoing series beyond 2024 has yet to be announced. The hold up could be clarification on whether or not the ACC will count Stanford games toward meeting Notre Dame's schedule agreement with the conference.

Yep, he re committed himself and nd isn’t doing much to help him stats wise… game film shows how open he’s been at times and how good he’s blocking
