Are we asking too much?

If they add games to the playoff, they need to do something about shortening the regular season or spacing out the playoff games to let these guys recover. It does not feel right to watch guys play hurt. Cross can’t walk right now. Love was unbelievable running through 3 tackles on the goal line on one leg. Watch that play again, a DB dives at his knee. I know it’s a violent game and it’s unpopular to worry about safety, but these guys are playing more than their bodies are capable of sustaining.
Well what's funny (or not funny) is that one of the reasons for not having playoffs for so long was due to safety.

Here’s a quote from a text by one of my oldest friends. Played football for USC.

“So here's my dilemma...I truly hate ND, I mean really ****ing hate them - school, students, fans (especially the fans). It's all like country music to me, makes my stomach turn.

But if there was ever a reason for me to start having an interest college football again, it will be because of Marcus freeman.”

Btw- he started two games vs ND and never beat ND. He was part of that group in the late 80s.

PSU QB is the best ND has faced. He is the real deal.

Picks are only part of the equation when evaluating QBs. RL only has 6 picks, but would any of us call him an elite passer?

I think the best way (although not perfect) to evaluate a QB is how he does against the best competition on his schedule. In this case the best 2 teams he faced were OSU and Oregon. Against those 2 he's 32/59 for 372 yards, 3 TDs and 3 picks. 15 rushes for 85 yards. This doesn't exactly bode well for him against an ND defense. I think ND will be fine.
And now adding ND to the mix. Allar is 44/82 for 502 yards, 3 TDs and 4 picks. 21 rushes for 102 yards.

He performed the way I expected. Not great.

I’ll admit that I was against his hire because I thought he was inexperienced

His inexperience showed in the first few seasons

He did one of the smartest things that a head coach could do..
He hired two very good assistants

Congratulations to the team and congratulations to Freeman
I agree, not my choice, but I supported the hire, that's all we could do, but i had my doubts after the NIU loss. Happy to be wrong!! A great win!! Go Irish!! ☘️

One word... Gutsy

Obviously on cloud nine at the moment. That game was about as stressful of a game as I've ever personally watched our Irish play. I'll admit this game really worried me. PSU is very good, they have a lot of weapons to solve for each play and I worried myself sick about our injuries. Those injuries were only compounded watching a lineman go down, then Leonard for a spell. I honestly thought this was it, we couldn't push through all these injuries any further. I was wrong.

One word comes to mind tonight about this group, Gutsy. Every single guy on that field tonight just showed guts, play after play. We are certainly not a flashy team, putting up big numbers, etc, but each and every player shows guts and plays that way for 60 minutes. We needed it tonight.

Leonard is well.. Leonard. He continues to blow me away with his ability to keep calm, focus himself and teammates and go back out there and get it done. He used to drive me nuts early in the season with his seemingly lackadaisical reaction to throwing a pick, etc. I was always like.. why in the F are you smiling?! lol

Love gutted it out all night and made some nice runs when asked. Receivers all did their jobs and came up HUGE. Gray, that kid has been much maligned all season, but he came up with the biggest play of the season. Very happy for him.

And how about Marcus Freeman. He absolutely is the heart and soul of this team, despite him always saying otherwise. Calm, confident and gutsy, and the players are a reflection of him. This is a different program now. You can feel it. This is not the same program and team of the past era. Down 10-0, teams of the past would have folded up like a cheap tent and rode it out till the end. Not this team, not a Marcus Freeman led team.

I'm going to enjoy this one for sure, being from central PA and 10 minutes from PSU campus. ND football is headed in the right direction and in good hands right now.
