A common coaching mantra is "next play." As in ,don't let one bad play turn into 3,4,5 bad plays. You can't change the past. Same goes for games. This team can still win the next 3 games. Dig in, make some corrections, and stay hungry.
That's all you can do. Beat Louisville, and get to 4-1. Then we can re-evaluate goals and talk about a realistic pathway to playoffs.

Clearly held their own when it came to not breaking but were getting gouged all game. Couldn’t get them off the field when we needed to. Sneed had numerous head scratchers, getting out flanked on the play where he initially set the edge, wow.
Yes that was bad on that Sneed play. I’d need to watch again, but he should have understood that he needed to force the ballcarrier back in. ND had the play bottled up except for that.

Regardless of stats, they let NIU stay on the field too long although NIU deserves credit for executing a couple of the conversions through the air.

Freeman has to go.

I notice Bama was in a 14-13 game w/ USF but, instead of caving like I knew we would they just scored to ice the game. Oh that's right their new coach was in a NC' game last year and ours is a glorified DC'/cheerleader.
What was the final score? Did Bama's rookie coach fold? 14-13 going to the 4th, final 42-16! Let's keep hiring first time head coaches!

Sure, some statistics weren't in their favor. I agree they didn't look good at times.

But we're talking 16 points.

The offense should be able to score more than that against NI.

No one wants to say it but this was a knee jerk hire when BK left. ND as a university was still spending so much time talking about the George Floyd, systemic racism, etc. You had a likable, energetic young black coordinator and the press/media loved it, while many fans questioned it.

It was an easy sell, I saw repeated tweets from sports media folks about how ND was looking to a “young black coach” to elevate ND to the next level.

I think he’s a great guy but should’ve never been the HC. In fact I wasn’t always happy with him as DC. Clark Lea was a better DC.
Gary Faust is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and to this day a Great ND fan
But he was a lousy college coach
MF is somewhat better but not a real upgrade from Faust
I have to agree that while he is out recruiting Kelly he is a worse HC.
You need a top HC to compete for a NC and we have not had one since early Lou
