ugh. was at that one.I was a guest of AF at ND in 96 (rooting for ND) & witnessed that debacle in person.
The point is crazy things happen & everybody loses a game like that. People just act like only BK does. I witnessed Holtz lose worst games with the most elite talent in the country.
Comparing Holtz’s losses to Kelly’s losses now? There were far fewer stinkers with Holtz. There really is no comparison.some people here think everything was always hunky dory during holtzs tenure. he had more than his share of stinkers too.
no the point was everyone has had them. from the best of coaches to the worst.Comparing Holtz’s losses to Kelly’s losses now? There were far fewer stinkers with Holtz. There really is no comparison.
Okay sure. My point is they are far fewer with the best coaches, obviously.no the point was everyone has had them. from the best of coaches to the worst.

Ugh Ron PowlusI was a guest of AF at ND in 96 (rooting for ND) & witnessed that debacle in person.
Holtz was far from perfect, but he could land absolute studs all over the field and his teams were prepared to beat great teams, and they did beat them. BC hurts more than AF for me.some people here think everything was always hunky dory during holtzs tenure. he had more than his share of stinkers too.
Holtz has 4 straight #1 classes. In a one year period he signed 22 Parade All Americans (the equivalent of a 5 Star today). Those teams averaged 8-3 seasons regular seasons. Holtz had bad moments too.
You hate BK, we all know, move on.
You said he bought a house in Tuscaloosa. .Fixing a dumpster fire takes time. I didn't say Taylor was going to Bama. I said he was a finalist and that it's possible ND could have lost two of their top choices to Bama.
Holtz could get in many more unqualified kids.Holtz was far from perfect, but he could land absolute studs all over the field and his teams were prepared to beat great teams, and they did beat them. BC hurts more than AF for me.

Yeah. What a horrible fit from a football standpoint. Might have won a Heisman had he played in a system better suited to his skill set. Gotta think he would have been tremendous playing for say Steve Spurrier. Remember the " blarney Stone offense" ? Talk about a square peg in a round hole.Ugh Ron Powlus
So can Brian Kelly, he's just gotten bit by them more than Holtz did and has stopped doing it as much.Holtz could get in many more unqualified kids.

I think Kelly has the program in a healthier spot than Holtz his last 4 or 5 years. My problem with kelly is getting his players to rise to the occasion and improving throughout the season. UM looked like an amazing win, but they clearly weren't as good as we thought."I witnessed Holtz lose worst games with the most elite talent in the country."
One that sticks with me is the Tennessee fiasco! If I recall correctly, he was up big heading into half, and a blocked FG returned for a TD turned all the momentum around.
Yes, Holtz had a fantastic career at ND, and won FAR more games -- but, can you imagine if something similar happened to Kelly?
Whoever guessed a wide receivers coach is a genius
Coached running backs at Stanford... Namely Christian McCaffrey and recruited Bryce Love.
Shaw receives how much credit
We shall see.A lot. David Shaw always gets credit for things that happen at Stanford. He's a good coach... Taylor is proven quality recruiter, whose guys develop under him.
