Game day thread. Sun bowl

Because we look at some of their rankings and just laugh and laugh and laugh.

It's the worst ranking system I've personally seen
This seems really ignorant when betting sites basically mirror the systems rankings when they make opening betting lines. F+ has Texas at about a three-point favorite over Washington on a neutral field, and the betting lines opened up with Texas being about a 3.5 to 4 point favorite.. again and again, and again, the betting lines mirror what F+ shows.

I think a fundamental misunderstanding about granular systems such as this one is that whatever output that’s out there is predictive about what would happen given multiple multiple simulations, but that does not mean that will always be true of a one game scenario.

Again, I don’t want to believe the point, but I’m not sure what industry any of the posters here seem to work in, but granular data systems are used to inform just about every decision and this system is the only one that’s available for free.

Does Univ of Chicago still play? Let’s get a game to wipe the never beat slate.

Gary Daniel’s is like Biden with these statements. “Delay of game out of a time out”. Haha. That was just a bit before. 😎

You do realize Vegas doesn't rank teams. Also please explain to me how Oregon is ranked #2 after they had 2 cracks at Washington and lost both. Also PSU ranked 5th with losses to both OSU and Michigan.

Explain to me how 2 loss Oregon is ranked ahead of Georgia, Alabama, FSU?

Are you saying the top 4 in the CFP should have been Michigan, Oregon, Georgia, OSU?
See, this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the system. F+ doesn’t rank teams, either.

The system is not saying that this one team is categorically better than another, nor is it making some statement about “goodness.”

It is saying that given all the snaps on offense, and all the snaps on defense, and all the snaps on special teams, and when you take away garbage time, and when you factor in opponent strength, and when you factor in luck that these teams have performed the best over all of these snaps AND given multiple simulations, the predictive outcome would be this separation of points based on the total points in the system.

So, the system thinks that given all the snaps that have been played that Oregon is an overall better team than Washington, but Washington happened to play better over the course of two different games although one could argue that Oregon out played Washington in the first game. Now something that’s going to cause issues with many of you who can’t seem to think outside of black-and-white is that if they do play again on the neutral field, Vegas will favor Oregon in that game.

F+ favors Texas by three points over Washington on a neutral field. The opening line between Texas and Washington was 3.5 points.

But we don’t get the benefit of multiple simulations, and we have one game scenarios in which many different things can happen.

No one cares. Awful system

Nice pass by Angelli. Better contested catch. Didn’t see any of those with Rico

Good first drive too. Took time off. Put up points. That’s a good 10 pt swing in the last 5 min.

Angelli is playing well in a very conservative don’t lose scheme. He is like the previous numerous ND QB’s that can’t “win” a game but doesn’t lose it.

I’m glad we got him but Carr and Duece can win a game you need. I’m glad we got him but he is a lifetime backup at a top 10 team.

Yeah, Vegas doesn’t have a clue, I guess that’s why the build Billion dollar hotel-casinos and send jets and limos to bring gamblers to Vegas and then give those gamblers free suites, food and drink.

You don’t have a clue as to how Vegas sets the opening line, over/under, etc., etc..
Of course Vegas knows what it is doing, which is my entire point. I mentioned for people to take a look at the opening lines on neutral fields and the F+ system— opening lines on neutral fields with no drastic injuries (or players coming back from injuries ) or coaching changes, etc., on betting sites and the point spread in the F+ closely mirror each other.

I don’t think anybody could possibly argue that betting sites don’t know what they’re doing, and if their opening lines mirror closely what the F+system has then one would think that people would take a look at it and give it some credence

Obviously, betting sites have their own proprietary data models and then adjust based on recent events and then reaction to how the money is coming in, but as someone who has spent a lot of time wagering on sports, it’s fascinating to see how closely these opening spreads mirror each other.

I guess winning this game would be nice. But does winning the Frosted Flakes bowl really give a program momentum?
No doubt. The momentum is within the program, building confidence from the coaches to the players. 10 wins is a nice season and sure as hell beats losing the Frosted Flakes bowl.

F+ absolutely rates teams. lol clueless. 😂 hence why they have teams rated.
Those aren’t rankings as in “this is the goodness of a team.” Yes, you see a number one and a number two and so on but those are the total predictive points given all the snaps that have been played on all sides of the ball by the team and the teams opponents and then their opponents. In the system, some team has to have the most, and then the second most, and so on.

It’s apparent that you and others simply don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand neons such as this.

I like how they are changing plays at the LoS. Hadn't seen that during the season.

Well, having Oregon rated higher than Washington after Washington BEAT them TWICE makes ZERO sense. I prefer to rate teams based on head to head matchups. Washington 2 - Oregon 0

At the end of the day F+ is a garbage rating system.

The player development looks good out there. Anytime you start getting big contributions from unlikely places, it's always a good sign of player development.
