Why didn’t Sark run Arch Manning on the 1 yd line

I just rewatched the Texas offensive series from the OSU 1 yard line. How can you not run a qb sneak/run three straight times with Arch Manning????
I know. It's a fair question. And Texas fans would have loved it too, and it would be part of Texas football lore, if they went on to win. With 'Arch' the heir apparent and crown prince, and an NFL prospect and good starter like Quinn Ewers is being forced to hit the portal in order to remain a starter so that could be his last game as a Horn. And now it was. So it would have been this cool moment, very satisfying, presaging the awaited changing of the guard at the nation's richest football program. Instead of doing whatever the F they did instead and they totally lost the game, and that series late 4th quarter 1st and goal from the one yard line is indeed what lost them the game. Certainly in the way that they lost. Because that was a fiasco. A veritable debacle I say!

That's probably too dramatic because Manning almost certainly would have just piled it over on the very first try, like it was nothing.

You can run it with Arch or run your rbs inside the tackles 3 more times

Anyone of those would suffice
Yea, sweeps look great when the defense intentionally collapses everything to the middle, and the back has one guy to beat in a race to the pilon. They suck when the defense protect the outside and the run is stopped for a big loss. Like to believe your line can get you one yard running between the tackles, but Sark obviously didn’t have have confidence in his line.

I dont know if you've noticed, but Manning seems to lose the ball in that situation 50% of the time

Manning was inserted to run just before half and he immediately fumbles….got saved by his knee down. No one is going to insert someone like that at such a critical time.

I listen to ESPN radio in my car and Sark is geting killed over running a sweep on first and goal at the 1.
Not just a sweep, but out of the shotgun which sets you back about 3 yards, and then pitching it back another couple of yards. Just makes NO sense. I visited the Texas message boards, and they were livid, and rightfully so. First and goal on the one, have the QB under center. Screw that shotgun crap, and pound it in. Basic, hard nose football.

Yes ! Toss sweep to the short side against arguably the best defense in the country. Dumber than dumb.

Coaches have big egos. and sometimes like with Peter Carrol those egos trip you up

first and goal at the one you try two times up the gut or a sneak.
then on third down MAYBE you do a rollout pass run option.

Sark is deservedly being roasted for what was a total disaster

Because he screwed the pooch. He had the label of 7 win Sark at UW. for a reason The Arch Manning package is your short yardage package or it is not your package. The only 4th down they converted all night was when Texas shotgunned the ball through the legs of the guy under center and Arch Manning swept around the end. Perhaps Arch putting the ball on the ground scared Sark? Another reason why the Head Coach should NOT be the primary offensive or defensive play caller.

I agree on qb sneak 4 freaking times. I just meant maybe Arch Manning is better at it than Ewers.

I think when Arch came in earlier and got that 1st down, it's my believe he got his bell rung and fumbled (w/ the knee down).

Apparently tOSU has been money on goal line stands this year. So Sark was all shaking in his boots that there was no way they could punch it in. He tried it once and was like, we can't beat these guys, they're too tough for us! Let's pitch it. And if that doesn't work we'll just pass. But don't fumble!

Pure nonsense !

Question ? Is sark the head coach and head play caller??
Sure looked like it. Why have a O coordinator if you’re going to call all the plays ?
Another thing I love about freeman. He lets his coordinators run their schemes.

Never understood it. Ryan Day finally gave up play calling duties and look at them now. It's usually coaches who think they know better than anyone else.

And, too boot -- the DB's wiped out the WR "blocking"

Day did that until this year -- HC's are a controlling bunch

I believe some thought ND should go after him in the transfer portal. That may have been chase, etc.

I guess he had a pretty good playoff run, ad he figures his stock won't get any higher. Except for that last fateful series, with that pathetic fumble. He just seems like a little boy out there. And it seems like his arm strength has gotten worse somehow. Like he had great arm talent when he started out, and now it's like, meh. Maybe Sark has coached it out of him, with his fancy, precision west coast offense or whatever the heck he uses. His Norm Chow offense....

I heard it was a myth that spread teams struggle at the goal line.
