I knew TB was possibly returning for the bowl, didn’t know if it was a def or not. If Angeli starts it’s too bad the staff didn’t let him throw a pass so year.
So you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?Let's use bowl games to reward the younger talent/backups and give them meaningful experience for the next season. They grinded out an entire season performing hard during practice with not much reward.
Amen. This bowl game is meaningless win or lose. Only reason to play is the money and playing freshmen.Let's use bowl games to reward the younger talent/backups and give them meaningful experience for the next season. They grinded out an entire season performing hard during practice with not much reward.
Yes. The game is meaningless. Who cares if ND wins by seven or loses by 20?So you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?
I don't understand this attitude. I'd like to win every game, including bowl games.Yes. The game is meaningless. Who cares if ND wins by seven or loses by 20?
Yes, since the game is really fairly meaningless. I'll bet a bunch of our potential NFL bound players won't play anyway. Mayer, Foskey, Adamolola, Patterson etc. This is the current CFB; sucks but that's what it isSo you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?
That is ridiculous. What is the better perception of Notre Dame football......a 9-4 season with a bowl win and finishing ranked......or an 8-5 season that ended on a 2 game losing streak and finished unranked.Yes. The game is meaningless. Who cares if ND wins by seven or loses by 20?
Meaningless to whom, you ?Yes. The game is meaningless. Who cares if ND wins by seven or loses by 20?
Bowl games are now preseason games for next years team not post season games for this years team … that’s just what it isYes, since the game is really fairly meaningless. I'll bet a bunch of our potential NFL bound players won't play anyway. Mayer, Foskey, Adamolola, Patterson etc. This is the current CFB; sucks but that's what it is
Right now, Angeli is getting all the first team reps.I knew TB was possibly returning for the bowl, didn’t know if it was a def or not. If Angeli starts it’s too bad the staff didn’t let him throw a pass so year.
Absolutely. Bowl games are meaningless in today's college football. It's nothing but a corporate money grab. Being the Cheez-It bowl champion doesn't really carry any prestige is what I'm trying to say.So you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?
I would bet anything that it would mean more to the team as a whole to have their 2nd string brothers leading the charge for a change. If I was a starter, I would be stoked that my backup would get to have his day in the spotlight. And that game means everything to the team, the coaches and to the players who will play in that game !
losing the Cheez-it bowl carries even more stigma with it and sets the tempo for the following season. You can use Oklahoma State as exhibit AAbsolutely. Bowl games are meaningless in today's college football. It's nothing but a corporate money grab. Being the Cheez-It bowl champion doesn't really carry any prestige is what I'm trying to say.
The way to do both is to build up a big lead then insert the other playersIt's playoffs or bust. Letting backups and young talent go in a live action game gives a bowl game more meaning at this point.
The problem is too many bowl games. Back when there were a limited number of bowl games they had some significance. Today, unless your team is in the top 4, the rest are meaningless.Yes, since the game is really fairly meaningless. I'll bet a bunch of our potential NFL bound players won't play anyway. Mayer, Foskey, Adamolola, Patterson etc. This is the current CFB; sucks but that's what it is
👍Buckner, will be ready, non-throwing shoulder. Get 2nd string and freshmen those 15 practices. Play to win, dont assume shit
Only 4 teams make the playoffs and everyone knows that at the beginning of the season. The problem is too many bowl games. Back when there were a limited number of bowl games they had some significance. Today, unless your team is in the top 4, the rest are meaningless.
No guarantee they lose. Winning a meaningless consolation doesn't mean much. Of course anyone would prefer to win but the big picture is more important. The practices are the most important thing given the circumstances going forward. So you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?
Of course you want to win. But the biggest advantage to these games is the extra practice time which gives your younger players more opportunities to improve in a structured environment.I don't understand this attitude. I'd like to win every game, including bowl games.
And you know this how ?Meaningless to whom, you ?
You’re no fan of ND !
For starters, I care !
And I want to win that game, and by as many points as possible.
You, like a moron want to add to the narrative that ND can’t win bowl games.
You’re not a competitor!
You’re not a warrior.
And that game means everything to the team, the coaches and to the players who will play in that game !
Now is a good time to see what Angeli has. I would only play Buchner if it was an emergency. Let him get the practice time but playing him doesn't accomplish much. Risk vs reward.I'd rather see Angeli because I don't think Buchner will ever play a full season at ND. He is an injury waiting to happen. They have to bring in a top portal guy and I don't think Buchner will beat him u
out.
BTW good luck and thanks to DP.
On this we disagree, it's meaningless to the players as well, that's why each year so many sit them out. It's truly unfortunate, but that is exactly what has happened to CFB. I hate it, I'm sure you hate it, but it's the way it isOnly 4 teams make the playoffs and everyone knows that at the beginning of the season.
If you’re an athlete, a competitor, you never want the season to end, you want to keep playing and a bowl game provides that extension.
So maybe it’s meaningless to spectators but it’s not meaningless to the players, the guys who battle on the field.
Absolutely. Cracks me up that some marketing person at ABC/ ESPN comes up with the label of "NY6" bowl games for promotional purposes and those games suddenly become more significant than the other non playoff bowl games. They're ALL consolation games. The sign says " play like a champion today " not " play like a gator bowl winner today ".The problem is too many bowl games. Back when there were a limited number of bowl games they had some significance. Today, unless your team is in the top 4, the rest are meaningless.
And you know this how ? I played in four bowl games. How dare you speak for me ?Only 4 teams make the playoffs and everyone knows that at the beginning of the season.

The expansion of the playoff will make the remaining bowl games even more irrelevant than they are now. Coaches relish the thought of additional practice time. That's the biggest benefit of the non playoff bowl game.On this we disagree, it's meaningless to the players as well, that's why each year so many sit them out. You’re wise beyond your years! Too many games already! The expansion of the playoff will make the remaining bowl games even more irrelevant than they are now. Coaches relish the thought of additional practice time. That's the biggest benefit of the non playoff bowl game.
If healthy it's Buchner. You don't lose a job due to injury and they need him to have as much game time as possible. If he's ready he plays.I knew TB was possibly returning for the bowl, didn’t know if it was a def or not. If Angeli starts it’s too bad the staff didn’t let him throw a pass so year.
100%.So you’re willing to lose the game just to give some players some experience for next year ?
Actually not true. Buchner has been throwing in practice and taking reps for two weeks. Just no contact and just started with pads this week.Right now, Angeli is getting all the first team reps.
QB Michael Penix of Washington has already announced he will play in Washington's bowl game.100%.
If it's not a playoff game it's the first game of next season not the last of this season. The majority of draftable players will sit out, and the team should use the extra practices to get a jump on spring.
He's not in the top 5 qbs in draft rankings. He's closer to 10. Pff, draftbuzz etc...QB Michael Penix of Washington has already announced he will play in Washington's bowl game.
He is arguably the best CFB QB in the country, and a first round NFL draft pick.
Not a chance in hell 10 QB's will be drafted ahead of Michael Penix. He's not in the top 5 qbs in draft rankings. He's closer to 10. Pff, draftbuzz etc...
He needs every Good game he can get to move up.
Moreover, obviously there are exceptions, but more and more first round picks are opting out of the bowl games...especially non playoff games. Penix isn't a first or second round pick.
This was reported to be true at the time I posted this. things change obviously.Actually not true. Buchner has been throwing in practice and taking reps for two weeks. Just no contact and just started with pads this week.
