Where does kelly's record rank historically at ND?

I know, how about we get a coach who has started at the lower levels, maybe won championships there?
Then maybe they move up to D1 & take a struggling team in a mid-major & win with them?
Then maybe they go to a P5 school with no tradition & take them to 1 second of the BCS Title Game?
Then they go to a traditional power program who has fallen on hard times, fired multiple coaches, slipped out of the top 25 for many seasons, winning 15 games in the past three seasons combined, then within three seasons have them undefeated & playing for a national title?
They have to be able to recruit, keep high academic standards, zero-tolerance policy, & still win games at one of the highest pressure jobs in sports?

Who would that be?

kelly's longevity/tenure in the pee wees is a tribute to his mediocrity and not some badge of honor. He stinks.

So Urban Meyer stinks too? Or any other coach who works their way up the latter?
How many coaches do you know of who just started off at the top? Zero.

It's been a pleasure but I am no longer wasting my time with this. I have multiple messages in my inbox informing me that I should join the majority of posters & ignore your anti-ND posts. I always listen to Mods.
So farewell.

So a guy who has the EXACT same path, with less overall success, as our current coach?
Kelly took Cincy to 12-0 in a P5 conference. This guy hasn't taken Houston to 12-0 in a smaller conference?

Did Saban have a 12-0 record before being hired at LSU at a P5 school?

your reference to pee wees is an insult to thousands of great players and coaches who have performed at those levels over many, many years. larry kehres is as good a college football coach as there has ever been. you can make intelligent posts when you choose to but this nonsense is just idiotic.

When did he make it clear? PS I have been mentioning Dungy for the better part of a decade....
neither have ever showed even a remote interest in the nd job. none of the haters here have yet to come up with a name that is actually viable. the minority here are the least informed as always.

Given the parody in college football and the fact that Kelly still must adhere to a more rigorous acceptance criteria for than 98% of other college football programs I believe he may be the best yet at Notre Dame before he is finished.

kelly does not represent thousands of great players and coaches you melodramatic drama queen. He represents brian kelly and does so poorly. There's plenty of sideline buffoonery to back me up. Your putting him in the same boat is an insult to the players and coaches that have carried themselves with dignity, honor and good sportsmanship. PS Whether you like it or not to many not emotionally, like you, attached DII and other lower levels are the pee wees in college football.

I'll accept Tim Brown's opinion/thoughts on Gruden over everyone's here.

Brown Wants Jon Gruden at Notre Dame
http://www.uhnd.com/football/brown-jon-gruden-notre-dame-5745/
Notre Dame legend Tim Brown was interviewed by ESPN Radio on Wednesday to get his opinion on the open head coaching position in South Bend and the last Golden Domer to win the Heisman Trophy gave a ringing endorsement for his former NFL coach Jon Gruden.

“Absolutely,” Brown’s answered when ESPN radio hosts Waddle and Silvy asked if he felt Gruden was the best candidate to replace Charlie Weis. “I spent a lot of time with him not just with x’s and o’s but in personal time talking to him about how he feels about certain things. I think his willingness to motivate young players – motivate players period – is something that I believe is the key ingredient missing from the Notre Dame coaching for the last 15 years or so.”

When asked if Brown had begun trying to recruit Gruden to South Bend, he said that he thinks there is interest there based on his dealings with Gruden over the year. “We’ve had some conversations, but we’ve had conversations over the years and Jon is a guy that is very respectful of other coaches and is never going to say anything while someone has a coaching job there, but I think that there is some interest. I can’t say that 100% sure because he’s being a little coy with me, but he hasn’t told me no so I think there’s a shot.

If you read between the lines there, it sounds as if Brown is saying that he and Gruden have talked about the possibility of Gruden coaching at Notre Dame over the years.

Brown even went so far as to say that should Notre Dame look at Gruden, he would want to be a part of a potential Jon Gruden staff in some capacity. “If he takes the job, you can bet that in some kind of way I’m going to be on that staff.,” he said. “It may not be as the receivers coach, but you can bet there’s no way Jon Gruden is going to go back to Notre Dame without having Tim Brown and Rocket and everyone else be a part of what he’s trying to accomplish.”

Gruden’s dad coached for Notre Dame and over the years there have been plenty of articles which have shown Gruden’s affinity for the Irish such as this one…

I’ve been fortunate to be exposed to some great home fields. When I was a kid, my dad was an assistant coach at Notre Dame.

To see that marching band walking across campus at 8 o’clock in the morning, to look up and see Touchdown Jesus and the Golden Dome, to feel Rockne’s ghost, the best word I can use to describe it is chilling. Every time I see Notre Dame on TV, it gives me goose bumps. (NFL.com)

cvgr: I still think you need to have a pic of kelly picking his nose that would be more fitting As far as Pugsly his family started and raised Lassie. I think you may be looking for a coach like Lassie that will save Timmy from the well

"5 bucks he eats it."

because tim brown likes him doesn't mean gruden wants or has pushed for the job. we all know you hate kelly. get a clue about the sport.

Would you care to address the accurate and abysmal 5 year track record I've displayed?
kelly has the job for as long as he wants it. your one man protest will not change that. enjoy your futile efforts.

Hey but he did reference a 7 year old article that Tim Brown says that he thinks Gruden really wants to maybe be here someday...... ; - )

There was parody back in Rockne's day as well.

You couldn't be more wrong. He's one more sideline attack away from being punted. Among other things....

I have more than a clue about the sport. Keep avoiding the original post which spells out how historically bad kelly has been....

none of your posts indicate that is true. you hate the coach. we get it. get used to him because he's there as long as he chooses to be.

From what I have seen Argus Man has owned cgvr and the Nole fans because without ever seeing one of his posts he is still under their skin. Great stuff.

I also join the overwhelming majority who agree their is no bigger a-hole here than cgvr.

OP will not be convinced otherwise or is a troll. In any case comparing a current hc tenure to anyone before holtz is a fool's errand. I wonder how good bk would do if he could offer unlimited scholarships etc. Modern football and its rules took away many of a NDs advantages, though I'm sure OP will not acknowledge.

Fact of the matter is bk is the best coach at ND since holtz by about any measure. Does that mean I think he's elite? No. He's not, and he could improve. But given the mess he inherited, he's done a nice job. Whats more, the fairy tail list of names to replace him so far, while amusing, are not to be taken seriously. Once some real names can be offered up that would be both better than bk and somebody that would take the job, then maybe we can talk. Every name brought up now hasn't crossed that two pronged threshold.

End of story.

Oh, so the reason Ara, Leahy, Rockne...others had success was because the deck was stacked in their favor. That's about as disgraceful an insult as it gets when it comes to these ND football legends/masterminds. kelly isn't capable of understanding fundamental football math. He's an idiot. Keep up the excuse making. It's what kelly does too.....

Here's a list of coaches from the college ranks (some may have retired moved on). I'd take just about all over our underwhelming pork chop. There are plenty of other HC prospects in the NFL/retired/other leagues also....
