I recognize that Norte Same functions differently than most programs primarily because of academic and non academic standards. With a continuing increase of young college athletes entering the transfer portal when do the Irish start to explore options more aggressively We’ve seen plenty of transfers out (no more than other schools) and the few that we’ve brought in, Gilman most recently, have had a positive impact.

There are plenty of strong players academically and on the field that enter early in the year. As far as I know currently this class doesn’t have a lot in the pipeline. Can we gain ground in the transfer portal?

ND is not that easy a place to transfer to, athlete or non athlete. The school has historically been very conservative about accepting credits from other schools, especially credits for courses in your major. You will find historically that most of our athletic transfers had zero academic risk attached to them. Just the way it is. It's the same reason why you see ND pretty much never in play for jucos. Other schools are likely to accept way more of their juco credits than ND is.

generally speaking, if a kid is transferring because of playing time, he wants to play football and his decision is probably not focused upon ‘credits’ or education as a priority.

Sure, but there are other choices you will have for more playing time that will put you in a better position academically. It's not like ND has a big advantage in playing time or getting to the NFL.

Totally agree.

Agreed.

Don't know if ND still operates this way, but in the past students who transferred into ND had to have completed courses basically identical to those required in ND's first year of studies program (these courses were required to graduate, had to be taken and passed in the first year).
