1. Should beat Indiana
2. Georgia is a tough second round opponent. However, Georgia is looking at ND as a tough second round opponent.
3. ND will have to play a strong team eventually. I don't understand the "ND got screwed" posts??? ND lost to a terrible team and they are not in a conference.

ND will get to the championship. Will they win? lets see who the opponent is.

Side note:
I have been a vocal supporter of ND joining a conference. ND could go 12-0 and still be a 7th seed. If ND ever wants to be in the top four then they have to join a conference. Otherwise, no one on this board should complain about ND being a 7th seed.

I would rather be 5 or 6 then number 1 Oregon this year. We're just fine as an Independent

As for ND never being in the top four, you are assuming this year's format will remain unchanged. I do not believe that is a given. In fact, I will be very surprised if it is not changed in the next year or two. And given all the grumbling about how playing in the CCG may hurt more than help schools, it is not beyond question that the CCGs will soon be a thing of the past, though because of the money involved that is hard to see happening.

I don't understand why ND fans fear and loathe CCGs other than on general principle. Oh wait a minute, it's because they have the potential eat up precious at large bids, which ND is limited to aspiring to, without the opportunity win a CCG themselves. I knew that, it slipped my mind.

I am not concerned about not being a top 4 team with a bye. Having a home playoff game is great! ND can beat Indiana and they can beat the Dogs.

Indiana was exposed by Ohio State

For me, this season has a much different vibe to it than seasons in the recent past where we went to the BCS NCG (2012) or the CFP (2018 and 2020). One, I think this Notre Dame team is more balanced overall than any of those previous ND teams. To be sure, this team is not without flaws, but on any given day we are able to stick with anyone when we play well, and we simply have more depth and athleticism in our lineup. Two, in those previous seasons we went up against some real juggernauts. There was no question but that Alabama (twice) and Clemson were the better teams when we played them. Yeah, I hoped we would pull off a miracle, but that was the problem: it would likely require a miracle to win those games. While this year it will require ND to win 4 times to wear the crown, I don't think that is an unreachable or unreasonable goal. I feel we have an honest chance, and not just a puncher's chance, to beat any of the other teams in the playoff this year. Maybe I am just whistling past the graveyard, but the next month will be fun. Instead of trepidation, I am looking forward to these games with anticipation.

But I don't want to take anything for granted, so let's go out and get the first one!

The set up is similar. No great teams beaten in regular season but we have to play a top Southern Team in the south.

I am not happy because we are better than PSU and close to Texas. There is a Rhine River of difference between 6th and 7th this year. That will be true any year in this set up when the Big12 and G5 champs get the first round BYEs.
