Today was bad. Make no bones about it

In the past, we've heard posters complain about how teams with 3-star talent are able to field good defenses. Well, we're kind of in that boat this year.

First off, Adams blew any chance of winning the heismann by not playing but 5 rushes. That cannot happen especially when you are cleared to play

Secondly, 37 freaking points? Really?? Wake was missing their best player? Unacceptable! Hope defense gets their heads out of where the sun doesn't shine for Miami.

We need to uphold our high standards. Today was not how we need to be playing in a 4 man playoff race.
The only thing that needs to be in "quotes

Did you watch the game? Adams...no H? Ok, if he MIGHT be hurt, you rest him, who gives a Sh*t about anything else.

Other than that....everything you posted was crap. The game was over long before the points made a difference. This team is the real deal. It took me a long time as a VERY LONG time ND fan to finally let myself believe it. They might lose before the season is over - or before the playoff is decided, but they are a DAMN good team and I am proud to be "IRISH" (and I'm also ethically Irish)!!!

I think Alabama is really the elephant in the room, so to speak. I haven't watched them as much this season as in past years, but they are big, strong and fast and have to be considered the prohibitive favorite.

Nick Saban is hands down the best coach of my lifetime.
He is the best coach in a situation when he can do anything he wants; take any player; gray shirt and all that stuff. Now, if he went somewhere with real standards and won the way he has at Alabama, then I would say he is the best coach of all time.

You do realize ND WON the game. What happens in one game, good , bad or indifferent , has no bearing on any other game. I disagree with your assessment on the Heisman. No one is the clear number one. If Adams kills it against The U on national tv next week, he'll be right in the thick of it. Remember Wake Forest didn't shut him down. He was kept out of the game by Kelly for precautionary reasons. Anyway, everyone is boasting about Oklahoma. How come I don't hear anything about their " vaunted " defense ? The only thing that really counts is winning. ND won ,nuff said.

People may be under-estimating tge quality of the QB for Wake Forest. His decision making was excellent with a very quick release. His WRs made some nice catches as well. His WRs may be better than Kizer's with the Browns.

It was 41-16. Wake scored garbage points. Game never in doubt. Take the win and move on. If the Irish win out, they're in. MI ST took care of that today. Ohio ST getting smoked made OK's win look not so impressive. Miami looked great tonight. That helps the Irish. If and it is a big if, the Irish win out, the college football world will be where it needs to be - Irish in the playoffs!! Go Irish!!

He does the same thing Frank Leahy did.

  1. Bama (if they win)
  2. Georgia
  3. ND
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Clemson
  6. TCU (if they continue to blow out Texas)
  7. Wisconsin
  8. Miami (if they win tonight)
MSU is the second big ten team. (Top 12)
USC moves close to the top ten with a win tonight. (Top 15)
I really can't see Oklahoma moving into the top four personally only because they have one of the worst defenses in the nation. 52 pts that they gave up tonight and 40 plus pts to a horrible Baylor team that is in total rebuild mode right now. our irish, bama, the bulldogs each would put 50 plus easily on the sooner defense in a playoff game in my opinion

Love missed plenty of time and is considered in the top two.
This was a good win but it seemed the defense got complacent in the 4 the quarter IMO

I still like our chances. Disappointed in our defense today. Elko was out-coached. No pressure up front. No answer in the second half (which has been his hallmark.

No pressure? Or no time to get to QB with his quick release?

NDIRISH53? I guess we know what Purses new handle is.
Nope, not him. In fact he chewed me out once because I made a thread saying how I was excited for the wimbush era. Sorry I'm upset our heisman hopeful lost his shot and we gave up 37 to an unranked team without their best player. Give me a break. This is what 25 years of mediocrity has done to this fan base. "Don't be angry at the defense, at least we won." Well without a conference championship, just winning isn't enough in this beauty pageant called the playoffs.

And yet Saban would be less great if he had to play 9 conference games in the Big 12. He would still be a great coach, make no mistake. But he's have many more 3 loss seasons playing true road games against wild offenses.

Oklahoma May leapfrog Clemson but they won’t leap frog us. Clemson barely squeaked by a team we dominated last week and lost to Unranked Syracuse. Our loss is against the #1 team in the nation. Also Oklahoma’s win against Ohio st doesn’t look that great anymore. We win the next 3 and we’re in. That’s all we need to worry about. The rest takes care of itself.

Wake had alot of Seniors and juniors playing in that game today. which is huge for them. last week NC State had the same thing going for them. the difference was we got turnovers and converted them into td's. that run pass option thing they were doing was really working for them. I didn't like the Irish giving up the last 2 tds. BUT give Wake credit those kids fought and played well most of the game. STILL the game was in hand. Having the ND D coordinators playbook didn't hurt either.

I like how Ian Book came in cold off the bench and scored td's. that was impressive. missing our top rb for most of the game and control it for 3/4 of the game. good job Irish and way to fight thru the mid term exams week. and with Wakes HC knowing every freaking defensive play we are going to run. tipped their offense game plan to do what it did in the game today. and some of the Vaunted Bama D's had their butts handed to them by manziel in yrs past. it happens. sometimes you need stuff to happen that makes you refocus for the remaining journey.

Another fake fan posting on other team message boards. Get a life you loser. You must have zero of any form of a life. You post on other fans message boards just to see how long your thread will go. You are worthless!

And winning the next 3 does not guarantee us the playoffs.
Scenario
1 loss UGA to Bama- in over ND
Undefeated Bama- in over ND
1 loss or undefeated Wisky- most likely in over us
Clemson- most likely swaps spots with us this week
Oklahoma- in over us with a conference championship

We do not play in a conference. Remember that
Speaking of nonsense. That will not happen.

I thought the defense was not great today. Oklahoma is in a shootout. Ohio st and Penn St losing helps us. I do

I was disappointed with the D but today wasn't "Bad" I do wonder if the Irish will be bridesmaids if Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Clemson, Bama all win out. Clemson did have a bad loss vs Cuse. I would think the BCS want's the Irish in the mix.
No way in hell does a one loss Clemson(Syracuse) jump a one loss ND(Georgia), NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

ND was due for a letdown game - it happened today. Lot of chaos in CFB and ND was comfortably winning its game. You are over-reacting. Wake knew Elko's game and took advantage of it.
Same game plan NC State used. Short quick, passes. Defense didn’t respond . We won... that’s all that matters. OSU and PSU lost. We win out we are in.

if Wisky wins out and wins the Big10 outright then Wisc has to get a spot. With the Pac out, it helps if the Big10 manages to eliminate itself. At this point, Ala.,UGA and ND look to have the inside track to the playoffs. The only way the SEC does not get 2 spots is if the championship game is a blowout onesided contest.

Don't worry. Wisconsin is not going to win out.

High standards my friend. 37 to wake is unacceptable. We needed to dominate them and we did not. Beating wake forest is not enough.
Cannot dominate every game, that's just not possible. Wake was very capable and knew Elko's defense inside and out. Sure would love to have dominated but just not going to happen every game. Also, a lot of those points came after we pulled Adams and Wimbush when the game was out of reach. The playoff commitiee's watch, and re-watch, these games very closely and will see that. This is not the AP or Coaches poll and the committee will see that. So catch your breath, you'll be alright.

Lets stop all this bs. A game like this was bound to happen. You can't play your "A" game every week, all teams have an off week. ND just had two big games in a row and have a huge one next week against the convicts. This was a game they probably weren't up for like they usually are. WF is not a bad team, the Irish were in control the entire game and there was never a doubt who was going to win. They will come out smoking next week.

That's hilarious. Pissed about our d not playing at the level they should have and our heisman candidate getting 5 carries. I'm not a real nd fan is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Get outta here bum

The D allowed 10 points in the first half and had already started jumping the short routes like on Love's INT. The first drive of the second half when Wake still had a chance to make it a game, the D forced a 3 and out. We got a field goal that made it 34-10, then the D held them to no points again. Over the last 20 or so minutes, they never took the field with less than a 3 possession lead. This game was never close and the game control metric the committee now uses will reflect that.

ESPN has us still at #3 in power rankings:
Bama, Georgia, ND, Clemson, Oklahoma

USC won vs. a hot team big last night. MSU continues to win -- both will be top 15. Beat Miami and (if we take care of business, we are in.)

The Heisman can turn on one game: if Josh runs wild vs. Miami -- he's in the top three.

While you wait, Lee Becton compared yesterday to his '93 game with BC. The point he made is, you have to play the whole game. All 60 minutes. BK talked about finishing. Lee said that the Irish actually played about eight quality minutes or so in that '93 game. Reggie Brooks compared yesterday to his game against The Vols when they blew a 31-7 lead. He said that the whole team went around saying that they had this game in the bag. These are guys that have been there at an elite level and actually experienced it. So now, you have BK, Elko, Becton, and Brooks weighing in on the game against WF. None of them are message board QBs and coaches as far as we know.

710 total yards, and you are bitching about what? A late meaningless WF TD?

Great, great post!

And remember, this is a young defense -- peopled with a lot of Sophs (including Julian "all you need is' Love who is playing like an elite Luther Bradly/Bobby Taylor corner right now.) Ten of the starters on the depth chart will be back next year with a lot of Sophs and Freshman getting major minutes right behind them.

I do have a question for Elko: what the hell was the rushing two and using Tillery or Hannish as a spy?? No way they can catch a QB in the open field -- if they do this vs. Miami, watch out, Rosier will run wild!

The committee & the national people all saw the same things...

1) ND up 31-10 at half, game over
2) Adams only played a dozen snaps
3) Wimbush played 2 1/2 Quarters
4) WF scores garbage time TDS
5) ND put up over 700 yards

I’ve listened to every different person last night & today who are analyst & they all say the same thing...ND at #3.

They don’t even talk about the game or the crap people on here are worried about. They know it was a blowout. I’ve heard a half a dozen of them say, “Wimbush threw for 280, ND put up over 700 yards without Adams.”
