Will always be up there but never quite good enough..have a good off season and I will see you in the fall for the 2016 Season.....

I'm starting to believe this is the case as well. ND will continue to be muddle in the middle of the pack at best. The only reason they're ranked higher is

1. Their name carries a lot of clout for past successes.
2. They overachieve by beating an over rated opponent and thus inflate their position.
3. The media and talking heads love having ND setup for an enormous letdown or blowout loss.

there is some truth in the difficulty in recruitment, However, you have to sell the vision of Notre 'dame academics and athletics. And you will get the recruits. you are not going to get everyone. and they can compete at the top level

Generally I agree with OP. But there was a great article in the last B&G Illustrated by Andrew Owens titled Notre Dame Progressing, But Not Quite There Yet . It gave me hope. Plus there are way too many stupid high school players with schools pushing them on thru. I don't think they flunk kids anymore. I know of a bb player about thirty years ago was in special ed but, signed with Kentucky. That's all I'll say bout that.

Notre Dame played for the national championship 3 yrs ago and was rated #5 for playoffs before Stanford -- understand your subject matter before posting

I don't think anything at ND wil change until they get new leadership. Kelly has proven in 6 years he can't beat good teams or win big games. His teams loom unprepared and overmatched every big game.

ND attracts elite talent, the rankings prove ND has top 10 talent, yet Kelly only finished top ten 1 time in the 2012 fools gold season.

Maybe if you say it a few thousand more times, you will get someone's attention.

Everyone brings up Stanford. Yes, they have been very good. However, have they won a title?

OP has it completely backward.

For many years, I agreed with this opinion. However, college football has changed - A LOT. ND is alone on an island (not Key West) without a conference. We do not have a built in recruiting region (northern Indiana???). Our glory days are long gone, and the current generation has never known an ND national champion.

The only reason ND is staying relevant is our academic standards. It provides something substantial and different to our recruits, and allows a national recruiting base. We won't be able to recruit EVERY player, but those that we do have a tangible difference in an ND offer. That means a lot to some players and parents.

Look at our talent level and recruiting rankings. We're right at the top every year. Could we do better with lesser academic criterion? Maybe 1 or 2 players each year. Maybe. That doesn't get us over regional powerhouses like Bama, LSU or OSU.
