I was there, and you're right it was probably 2 to 3:1 SCar fans. This was (obviously) related to proximity for respective fans, as well as the bowl expectation levels for each fanbase.
ND fans turned up the volume in the 4th qtr and were pretty damn loud during SCar 3rd downs. Irish kept Gamecocks defense on the field and gassed. Nickelback was a true freshman with little experience, and Irish exposed this.
I had a great trip and met several super nice ND fans out and about. Congratulations on a great game!

Thanks, @gpcocks. Nice post. The SCar fans were plenty loud during the first half. It looked pretty grim for ND for most of the first half. It turned out to be an entertaining game, although the final outcome wasn't what the Gamecock faithful were hoping for. I think ND's superior size just finally wore SCar down. Tyler Buchner sure made the game exciting, though some of that was because he threw a couple of passes to a player wearing the wrong colored jersey. This board was on meltdown mode after the second pick six. But TB was shaking off a lot of rust, and he didn't ever look like he got down on himself. I give him a lot of credit for how he played, and for me, all's well that ends well.
Hats off to the Gamecocks for travelling south to support their team.

LOL! ND fans often say the same thing about B1G refs. In most every game, each team's fan base thinks the calls go against their team.
I thought Coach Beamer cost the Gamecocks badly with the unsportsmanslike penalty on him just before half. And after seeing the replay of the blindside hit penalty that got him all fired up, I am not sure why he got so hot. Granted the SCar player didn't blow up the ND guy that he hit, but it was a pretty clear blindside hit. I didn't think it was even a marginal call, much less a bad call. You guys could have had the ball near midfield with a minute and a half left in the half, but instead you got pinned deep into your own side of the field. Bad move by Beamer. He continued to chirp at the refs even after the unsportsmanlike call, and I thought he might get another one, but I suppose the refs decided to let him blow off some more steam.
Thanks, gp cocks, I really like Beamer--- I think he will continue to improve your program as the years go on. We haven't played you guys in a while during the regular season. Would be nice to have a home and home with you guys again.
