This defense is just not good enough.

Offense picks you up and all you need to do is get a stop there on that drive before the half and what do we get? A complete stinker of a showing on that drive. Unreal. This is looking like a Big 12 game and I don't like it.

They're sub par. Been so all year. I'm not at all surprised. Need to simply the defense and focus on fundamentals, IMO.

They have slowed down a very good rushing offense, but who would of thought Stanford's passing game would be so good considering so many on this board believed Hogan was a bad QB

the front seven is playing really well for the most part but the secondary is killing us at times which is why Stanford leads in my opinion

I said this from day one but people on this board get all butt hurt about the truth and start crying. It is just an unfortunate fact, especially our secondary, and I said it was going to go from average to bad without Russell in the lineup. Stanford is a good team but our defense has played this way against every opponent minus Texas. It is too bad we can't get some turnovers to off set the foolish plays, like Kizer just made before half, but it is what it is.

We're just not a top 4 team.

The offense is almost there, too much inconsistent play from the QB and of course turnovers. The defense has been our weak point, especially the secondary, for a long time except for a couple seasons. I always wonder why we can't recruit more than one top DB/safety in a recruiting year?

Laugh out loud. Kelly goes for 2 once again in the third quarter. The bone head just does not learn. Blew the Clemson game and may wind up blowing this game. I guess he thinks that leaving points on the board with bad red zone play calling wasn't enough.

This defense doesn't have the type of athletes around the board to make VanGorder's scheme work. You have to corners and Defensive ends like Michigan St. normally has to make that scheme work.

A good coach coaches a scheme that best fits the talent he has, not the talent he wishes he had

We just don't have the talent like you said. Honestly I like BVG's style but if we change coordinators I doubt anything will change without better recruits. I watched Ohio St. smack Michigan and they were completely loaded from d-line to the secondary, they must have 5-6 NFL 1st or 2nd rounders on that team right now.

I wonder if a different scheme or approach wouldn't sway your opinion? Could Redfield and Shumate be more successful and more highly sought after if they are in a simpler scheme that allows them to not need to think and process so much (see the # of mistakes in coverage vs the constant "complexity of the D" line we're fed)? They both clearly have the physical tools.

Same thinking for Morgan, Coney, Cage, Rochelle et al. Is simplicity the answer to unlock our potential? We do have a good stable of high level recruits.

I remember listening to a radio interview with Aqib Talib of the Broncos in the preseason and he was literally giddy with excitement over the defense Kubiak brought in because it was simplified over their previous schemes. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said it allowed the players to make plays without trying to be too cute.

I'd like to think we have that potential with our players in the right scheme and with the right focus.
