The coaching changes on defense give COACH BVG the people he

wanted to make ND dominant again.

GILMORE replaces ELSTON on the "D" Line-----GILMORE is a 4-3 1 gap coach

just what rge doctor ordered.

ELSTON was a 3-4 two gap coach ---so he moves to LB the position he played--

he will be aided and abetter by former ND ILB eam captain----nice !!! Also adds

another piece to the ELSTON resume.

LYGHT concentrates on corners while BVG himself supervises the safeties.

The safeties need a strong hand and supervision, who better than the D_coordinator

in person.

I like it 0035. We need to punch people in the face next season. I have a good feeling about our D next season. Jaylon will be a beast in year 3 and a great leader. I expect him to be a force next season.

11-1. or better. Final 4 here we come.

Speakink of JAYLON---during this morning's press conference

coach KELLY mentioned that MLB GRACE was completely recoved---120% ready----

Coach even said that in workouts GRACE had beaten JAYLON on some shuttles.

Now that is great news---he also mentioned that BARATTI had vbeen cleared medically/

If SEBASTIAN is as good and smart as advertised0---and BARATTI TRANQUILL are

ready to go ---and---if FARLEY continues to be as good as he was in 14 ----tHEN----

VanGORDER will have some competion for REDFIELD and SHUNATE tohandle.

A big hole in the defenswe will have been closed up-------Yes Brother, it could be a

very good year in the outfield.

35 ...........Good summary on the additions to the staff and the effect they will have on the defense.. It does appear that Van Gorder will have more help in teaching his defense and plugging up some of the weakness that was very evident last year. The injury rate was atrocious , but there were some obvious teaching/coaching problems that existed also.

I also like the addition of the running back coach also, a Notre Dame All American coming back home to teach other young backs what Notre Dame football is and should be about, on and off of the field. Also the QB Offensive coordinator coach sounds like a true gem for the staff. Now just let him coach.!!!!!!!!

I don't visit here much anymore since the season ended, I just got very tired of the continual arguing about recruiting, offensive styles of play and things in general, it just all became very childish and crude. Also, I got very tired of hearing these young bucks under 30 or so, talk about how lost us older folks are in the knowledge of football. One can beat his chest only so much with warring out his welcome with me.

I always do check in to see how you are doing, and check on the good posters that continue here on the board, they may not always agree with each other , but for the most part they are a positive reflection on Notre Dame and handle their thoughts well.

Stay warm and well 35, I will always consider you a true positive for the old Fighting Irish, keep on sending those good updates. .

Go Irish

Good Morning TEX---it is always a pleasure to see your name as

the author of a post and appreciate your kind words.

If , as you say, KELLY let's him coach, it looks like we will see some new wrinkles

that will cause defensive co-ordinators some BIG TIME HEART BURN---

KELLY can be a great CEO if he learns to designate authority and then step back

and watch his hand picked staff do their stuff.

An interesting addition will be the 3 advisors---hope it does not become a too many

cooks spoil the broth situation. Rumor is KELLY's old buddy JEFF QUINN will be

the offensive guy.

It will soon be golf season so you will have something to keep your agile brain occupied till

we whoop TEXAS to start off an interesting, exciting and new season.

My biggest concern on D next year will again be the safeties. I just don't get how inept they look back there sometimes. Redfield & Shumate both seem to have all the tools but just can't put it together on a regular basis. Maybe they were just thinking too much in year 1 of BVG's system. Hopefully Lyght coming on board and another year in the system will help. I think we'll be stout everywhere else on D.

Lou, I share the concern; but we can't underestimate the challenge of learning Diaco's system which was supposed to be very mentally demanding, only to be followed by an even more challenging system and a different scheme. Have to think last year was like starting over, and we should expect them to play more instinctively correct this year.

The middle of the field was wide open all day long. Not sure what defense they were trying to run, I am sure it was supposed to be a cover 2, but it looked like the cover 0.

Don't forget, Shumate and Redfield were true sophomores last year. They will both be seasoned juniors this season. I expect them to have huge Harrison Smith type seasons !

The addition of Coach Todd Lyght
will only help!

I believe this will be the year that their football knowledge finally catches up with their physical abilities. If this happens I believe that ND will have the best one two punch at Safety in the country. They are both physically gifted players. I expect big things from both of them this season as well.
