I know, this season isn't over yet but I don't think I've been this positive about ND football going forward in... a long time. Why?

  1. Justin Yoon -- prediction: he's going to break every ND record. FRESHMAN
  2. Josh Adams -- I don't remember a true FRESHMAN as good as him. Wow.
  3. Deshone Kizer -- imagine if this redshirt FRESHMAN stays all four years. Size, he can run and a big arm that needs to learn to make some throws (baseball player will learn 'em). The kid is a winner.
  4. CJ Sanders -- last time we had a punt and kickoff return in one season was 2002! FRESHMAN.
  5. Jerry Tillery -- not often that a FRESHMAN with his size makes an immediate impact.
  6. Shaun Crawford -- okay, the one stretch on my list but he was the best DB in camp! FRESHMAN.
  7. Aliz'e Jones -- this FRESHMAN could become our next Eifert. He's got the ball skills.
  8. Eq. St Brown -- this FRESHMAN could become our next Michael Floyd. We need him in the RZ.
  9. Brandon Wimbush -- this FRESHMAN will push the other two.

  1. Sophomores like Tyler Newsom (best punter in a long, long time), Quentin Nelson (a beast), Bars and McGlinchey (RS Soph), (our o-line won't miss a beat while losing two NFL players), Greer Martini (gonna a be a good one), Nyles Morgan (where are you buddy?) Malik Zaire...
Looking at the list we need an impact linebacker, D-lineman, safety and db.... But still, I'm on the buy side with Kelly at the helm. Go Irish!

Some great recruits (hopefully) coming in as well.
Beasts: OT Kraemer, OT Eichenberg, DE Kareem, WR Claypool, DE Okwara
Solid Players: CB Vaughn, RB Jones, OG Boudreaux
Hopefully some more coming as well!
2017 class looks great already too!

I am very excited for the future of this program!

While I do agree with all this, it feels a bit like Groundhog Day also, we've been looking to next year as thee year for a long time now.
Have to disagree... Two years ago we were in a definite rebuilding year. We lost top guys on both sides of the ball to graduation and then we had the frozen five and lost some solid playmakers on both sides of the ball. This year I was hoping for 10-2 or 9-3 (especially after Golson left and we were starting the season with an inexperienced QB -- hindsight, I'm glad he left as we got great reps for a guy who is going to be here for 2-3 more years.) And two very solid back ups.

So, I'll take 10-2 with both losses potential wins (remember the Weis years when we would just get blown out by Michigan or USC? That was a real low point for our program. We don't see that much under Kelly...)

I'm positive going forward. I think we will be right in the mix again next year with the best stable of RBs since I can remember, a QB coming back after having an impressive first year (much more impressive than Golson's first, by the way) and an offensive line that will reload.

For me, the question mark is the defense. That is what separates us from Alabama and OSU right now. Offensively, we can play with anyone and will only get better next year. My three cents.

Stu, I'm with ya, it's just a bit of frustration, really pent up since 93' - the Holtz years. I have been through the Devine years right up to the present, and since 93' frustration builds. But I'll watch the bowl game and I will always keep pulling for our Irish!

I can't wait to watch Fuller drop 15 passes next year.

Go Cubs...I mean Go Irish! 2059 Orange Bowl Champs!!!!!!!!!

'93 was so painful because I really believed we had the best talent in College Football... That BC game was the worst loss of my tenure as a ND fan (an alum who was at both Natty's -- my junior year '77, crushing Texas, '88 crushing WVa) -- I remain hopeful yet so much has changed since the Holtz years (there is so much more competition for top recruits now) in college football... But we are back in the conversation and that is key, right? I'm confident Kelly will get one!

Wrong! During last years sit down with the espn crew before the Florida State game, Kelly said they were a year ahead of schedule. He said 2015 was the year to make a run in the final four. His awful game management skills cost ND a playoff spot. Making excuses will never do anything but continue to cover up CBKs inability to improve as a coach.

We WERE the best team in 93', especially built on the head to head precedent of 89'. ND got totally shafted in 93'. Was at the BC game, and yes that was/is painful.

whether ND continues the ascent will depend on how well ND attracks the elite defensive players.
players that can make up that 30 second gap in ultimate success.

ND's staff is on the road now visiting prospects. Hope they can close the deal on a few of those top D targets.

Lastly, BVG may not be the answer to the defensive problems. He seems a poor fit for the college kids that are only given a short time to reach productive levels and then are gone. His system (whatever it is) just seems to confound confuse and collapse.

And we did just that, we made a damn good run (despite losing 12 starters!) and were two plays away from being #1. I have never been able to figure our what you want, Turnover?! What is the alternative? Kelly is the best ND coach since Holtz (and Holtz was in a better recruiting environment, there is so much competition these days.) Why am I talking to you anyway? Like your idol, Trump, you will never admit you are wrong and it makes me laugh to read your posts. Go back to Purdue.

Stu we have both been around here a while[seems longer, smile] The thing I noticed this year starting with the bowl game , was that we weren't getting pushed around like in some years past and were actually doing most of the pushing! I think that the senior leadership and the growth of the scholarship numbers along with the advanced preferred walk on program has made and will continue to make a huge difference. The scheduling and the referee/replay debacles need to be addressed at the Swarbrick level. I for one am looking forward to a strong bowl performance and a good finish to the 2016 recruiting class to launch an exciting and competitive 2016!

The title of this thread is the "Future".........and you're still stuck on a game over 20+ years ago!

Bwahahahahahhahahahahahahahah! That's rich!

Totally agree. Someone mentioned Weis' 10-3 year but that year we lost to Michigan 47-21, then got killed by USC 44-24 and LSU 41-10... Now, I know last year's USC game wasn't pretty but we lost two games this year by two points each time. We can compete with anyone.

It's not your discussion. Read the whole thread before you comment, or is reading a challenge?

Stu4don,
I disagree with one thing.

I believe Alize Jones has poor ball skills but is a physical freak and matchup nightmare.
He is going to have to do a ton of off season catching work. If he can polish that up he will be a ridiculous matchup for anyone.
Defensively needs to keep good d line recruiting going. And whomever is teaching tackling in the program needs to dismiss themselves yesterday. The tackling is not just bad but embarrassing.
